Meredith's 'Brokeback' Farewell

Joy Behar and Meredith VieiraFriday's episode of 'The View' was the last hoorah for co-host Meredith Vieira -- she's set to fill Katie Couric's seat on 'Today.' Joy, Barbara, Star and Elisabeth roasted their co-host for their send-off, but Joy gave her something to really remember -- a kiss!

Behar went in for the liplock during her turn at the dais. "I love you so much, you know that," she told Vieira. "I just don't know how to express it. So I thought to myself, 'What would Rosie O'Donnell do?'"

That's when Behar made her move.

Afterwards, Vieira talked backstage about her favorite moments from her last day on 'The View.'

Vieria joins 'Today' in September.

211. I watched the farewell show for Meredith. I could not laugh at the jokes. I was thinking: "How could Ms. Walters have done a show like this for Meredith Viera who is the real star of the show. Was or is Ms. Walters jealous of Ms. Viera's move? If Ms. Walters and the producer meant well, you failed. You left a bad taste in daytime programming...infront of Meredith's children no less. We'll wait and see how far The View wil go after this...To Meredith, I pray that you continue to love and hold your family, especially your husband, given his medical condition. You will be blessed!

212. I agree that the show was in very poor taste. I couldn't believe the crude and raw jokes on a morning show. Compared to Katie Couric's grand send off, this was pathetic. If I had been Meridith, I would have been highly insulted. It was like they pulled it together the night before with not much preparation at all. Maybe there was some underlying hostility about her leaving that has been kept out of the press? I think a major clash is coming between Elizabeth and Rosie. Rosie makes no secret of her disdain for Pres. Bush, while Elizabeth is a loyal advocate. Like the others, I think the show will see it's final season this year.

213. Any one that has watched the view should know that a send off that was with humor and a bit raunchy was just what the doctor ordered. Rosie is great and can't wait to see her breath some life in to the show that sucks wind. It will be nice to see Rosie again. I have missed her. Good luck to Meredith on her new venture and good luck to Rosie as well.

214. It's good to know I was NOT the only one who thought this send off was entirely inappropriate. Didn't anyone know her children would be there front and center? Thank goodness for her husband and oldest child..they were the only refreshing words spoken during an otherwise embarrasing hour of TV. Best wishes to Meredith.

215. I once loved this show. Meredith will be sorely missed. Adding Rosie O'Donnell is a tremendous mistake. What a miserable woman. Does she like anyone? Rosie is like a cancer. Barbara made a big mistake this time. I will no longer be watching.

216. I believe it is the end of The View. I did not like the send off for Meredith. I am mortified that they have replaced her with Rosie O'Donnell. I don't care what Rosie's lifestyle choice, but I do care that she rams it down everyones throat. Yes, she has a choice to live a certain way, but I have a choice to live the way I choose too. Goodbye to The View and Good Luck!

217. Meredith - PURE class. Her family and her were subjected to a PURE CLASSLESS send off. Add Bawbwa the has-been and Rosie the Obnoxious Loudmouth, and it demonstrates why TV execs still don't get it. The View is essentially over. This time next year, it won't exist.

218. The last show of the view with it's brightest star meredith vieira was tearful
knowing this is the last day she will be on the show.
Meredith was the show. sorry barbara.
Now they are going to replace her with no class rosie. what an insult.
I think the public has had enough of rosie. Fill meredith's shoes, not a chance.
good bye barbara, good bye view.

219. I loved the View when Meredith was on and I turn it when Barbra is on because I do not like her . She takes over the whole show ..it is all about her..half of the time she sit there with a stupid look on her face or her mouth open duh...so when Rosie joins the View I will not be watching it at all.

220. Meredith deserved so much more. The View has consistently been losing class and taste. Meredith was the main reason I watched the View and she pretty much carried the show. I cant believe people would say such awful things in front of her children and husband! I was absolutely mortified while watching this and turned to the Price is Right. I'm also very dissapointed by Rosie joining the show. I refuse to watch a show with Rosie AND Star Jones on it. It's going to be absolutely horrible.

221. Ditto, Ditto, Ditto - that show was terrible! I wanted to turn it off but I was afraid that I would miss something worthy of this occassion. I teared up a little when Joy and Elizabeth spoke at the end but the rest was tacky. I lost so much respect for Barbara Walters. Why would anyone think that Heather McCartney's missing leg would be a target for humor? There were at least three times someone attended to make a joke of her. And please, couldn't they get people any better than that? I thought Joan Rivers was dead, guess not. The highlight of the witty repartee was the word "bitch" which was used repeatedly. ABC should be embarrassed! And Meredith should be glad to go.

222. Meredith was the best thing going on that show. Elizabeth tries to counter all the Eastern Liberal propaganda, but she isn't strong enough. The Bush bashing, crass comments, plugging personal agendas, is just toooo much. Joy is sarcastic and nasty. Why would anyone continue to watch? The little balance that was there is gone, gone and gone.

223. I must say that I completely agree with some of the above comments about Meredith's sendoff. I thought it was rude and obnoxious the comments that were made regarding her sexual activity especially with her family being in the audience. I think it is a big mistake having Rosie O take Meredith's place. I have enjoyed The View over the years and have taped many of the shows to watch at a later date. I'm surprised Barbara Walters allowed such rif raf to be aired on her show. I will not be watching the show in the future and I can see it being cancelled in the very near future.

224. I did'nt see the show but I can say I see Star leaving real soon!!! She has acted differently since she lost weight. As far as Rosie well the personalitys of Star and her well not blend well. It will be interesting to see how the show will do. But just think of all the free things the audioance will get....When Rosie is a guest on other shows she always brings presents will they do that on the View????
