Meredith's 'Brokeback' Farewell

Joy Behar and Meredith VieiraFriday's episode of 'The View' was the last hoorah for co-host Meredith Vieira -- she's set to fill Katie Couric's seat on 'Today.' Joy, Barbara, Star and Elisabeth roasted their co-host for their send-off, but Joy gave her something to really remember -- a kiss!

Behar went in for the liplock during her turn at the dais. "I love you so much, you know that," she told Vieira. "I just don't know how to express it. So I thought to myself, 'What would Rosie O'Donnell do?'"

That's when Behar made her move.

Afterwards, Vieira talked backstage about her favorite moments from her last day on 'The View.'

Vieria joins 'Today' in September.

61. I was so glad to hear Merediths comment , letting them all know what she thought of the final farewell, when she said it looked like they threw this together in the time it takes for Bill to comb his hair. It was a good shot and well deserved for Barbara and Getty. How shameful that they would let others tell such crass and sexual jokes in front of her husband and children. One joke started out with.... when I was having sex with you (Meredith) Sad, Barbara, you need to really do something spectacular to make up for this fiasco. Joy. you are the only one left with real talent.......run girl, run

62. I tape the show and watch it every night after work. But what a disappointment this send-off was. I would have had to leave if I had been her family. Since Meredith and Joy were the life of the show I hope Rosie and Joy will be able to pull it off. Too bad it wasn't Elisabeth leaving. THe show would have a better chance. Hope Joy has plans for her next gig. Not sure The View will be able to withstand this departure.

63. The send off for Meredith Viera was in very poor taste. What business did the three obnoxious guests have on this special occasion. With the family present, poor judgment was used. As for replacing her with Rosie O'Donnell - again, very poor decision. In my area Ellen DeGeneres is opposite this program. I am, therefore, making a change in what I shall be viewing from now. As for the remaining stars, I like them. However, two of them are so bitter in their left-wing beliefs. Elizabeth does not have a chance! I think some other show should get her and soon!!!!

64. I watched the View for a couple of months while out of work. Enjoyed Meredith and basically watched because of her. She had class, was comedic and very intelligent. I hope the best for her and will start watching Today when she starts in
Sept. Hope she stays with Millionaire too. Super personality!! Good Luck.

65. I, too, felt Meredith's farewell was in poor taste. I can't believe how horrible the show was! Barbara Walters has gone to the bottom of my respect level. And ROSIE...What a bad choice for a replacement. I think it is an insult to Meredith. I hope she does extremely well on "Today" and shows everyone what a classy lady she truly is. In my opinion, it was the farewell show to The View. I will no longer watch.

66. I loved the View. Shame on the person responsible for Meredith's send off. It lacked class! It was stupid and embarrassing at times. The comedians wern't funny. They were out of place. Meredith, with love and respect, good luck in your future. We know you will do well.

67. The Today Show will be the real loser this time--No one can replace Katie--she is the greatest. As far as The View is concerned--Meridith or no Meridith--it was a boring show. At least Rosie has some spunk to make the show a little more interesting!

68. Like most of the previous comments, todays show was in poor taste.
Meredith deserved a better send off show. She was the best host on the show.
I plan to keep watching the show for Rosie, and Joy, as for Star who looks
sick day by day, and ms. know it all Elizabeth I hope they will leave soon. The
show needs new members, especially and Latina. I guess they think we
are not good enough for the show, you would be surprised how many new
viewers would watch. It's too bad that for the past 2 times they needed a new
host the Latina always came in 2nd.

69. I love Meredith and I will miss her. I LOVE Rosie and will watch the show more frequently because of her. Rosie has star power. That is why she was asked to appear on Fiddler on the Roof - because she can sell tickets. The same for The View. The show lost an integral member and they needed someone with influence to take her place. Some won't watch because of Rosie. To you I say 'see ya.' But I believe an equal amount will watch tune in. It will probably even out. Whether or not one agrees with her political point of view is neither here or there. I challenge anyone who dislikes Rosie to compare what they contribute to this world to that of Rosie. Chances are that the Rosie haters pale in comparison. Even Rosie fans pail in comparison. For the most part, we all live in our own little world. Not contributing much to the betterment of society. We just go about our business. Selfishly. And please don’t think that putting together a clothing drive for your church once or twice a year compares to what Rosie does on a daily basis.

70. Meredith's sendoff, The View, was the MOST distasteful show that I have EVER seen. And, to say such nasty & ugly things, in the presence of anyone, much less Meredith's husband & children, was in absolute the POOREST taste ever !
I found myself listening & observing the show, HOPING & WAITING for the
sincere & tasteful portion of Meredith's last show send-off, and it never
came about.
Everyone's true colors and obnoxiousness definitely came out, though !
I have NO plans to ever watch 'The View' show, again !

71. I agree that Meredith's send-off lacked class.
Everyone on the staff knew that Meredith's family would be there so who had the bright idea to invite people that were going to roast her and make crude jokes.
Those doing the roasting were the only ones that found their comments funny!
Rosie had her show and she retired so do we really need her back now to run the View.
Sorry Bill and Barbara but I think the View is on it's way out.

72. I loved the View but now with Rosie coming on, I will not be watching it. Why do you need two comedians on one show. Meredith had class but Rose?????

73. I was very disappointed in the sendoff to Meredith. I agree with the other comments about the crassness of so-called "comedy" that was said in front of her husband and children. She is so warm and loving and will certainly be missed. I was disappointed to learn Rosie was going to replace her. What a comedown! Several names I had heard mentioned would have been much more appropriate than her. I'm going to check out the new venue but just might delete it

75. I missed today's show due to work and school but had it taped by my sister in North Carolina to be mailed to me. I did infact hear about the antics on the show and was real sorry that i missed Mario Cantone, especially. I will certainly miss Meredith - she definitely was one of the finer points of the format - I honestly cannot believe that Barbara chose Rosie Odonell of all people to replace Meredith the show will never be the same and I honestly wouldnt be surprised if it got cancelled. Act now Barbara and revamp before its too late - Rosie is no Meredith - I believe that inspite of your best efforts the show doesnt win Emmys
because the Women talk over each other, especially Elizabeth and no one wants to see that - Rosie is a champion at ramming her opinions down others throats. Good luck and all the best Meredith
