Meredith's 'Brokeback' Farewell

Joy Behar and Meredith VieiraFriday's episode of 'The View' was the last hoorah for co-host Meredith Vieira -- she's set to fill Katie Couric's seat on 'Today.' Joy, Barbara, Star and Elisabeth roasted their co-host for their send-off, but Joy gave her something to really remember -- a kiss!

Behar went in for the liplock during her turn at the dais. "I love you so much, you know that," she told Vieira. "I just don't know how to express it. So I thought to myself, 'What would Rosie O'Donnell do?'"

That's when Behar made her move.

Afterwards, Vieira talked backstage about her favorite moments from her last day on 'The View.'

Vieria joins 'Today' in September.

76. I did watch the view occasionally because I work during the day. Loved Merideth and Joy. I will now tape the show just to watch Rosie. I love Rosie because she is down to earth and no phony!

77. Hi. I have to admit that I was terribly disappointed by the send-off "roast" proffered by the "View Crew" as Meredith's farewell show. I know how much they care for her and respect her.... I'm trying to understand why they chose this particular format to mark the end of such a wonderful 9 year journey. Perhaps, knowing how easily Meredith is brought to tears, they thought it would make it easier on her... I can only hope. She seems like a genuinely wonderful, strong, intelligent woman and I'm sure her "buddies" did not mean to offend her or her family. My vcr let me down, so I was unable to watch Thursday's show. I'm hoping real feelings were discussed at that time.
With respect to Rosie coming on board, this should make for interesting tv. Again, this is an intelligent woman with a good heart, passionate in her convictions, notoriously generous, and terribly opinionated. I'm looking forward to her going toe-to-toe with the "oh-so-right"eous Elisabeth. Rosie is older and has experienced even more of life's ups and downs and I believe she has matured and can find the right tone so that she will actually be heard, and not "tuned out" by those of differing opinions. And, let's face it... she DOES know how to have fun. Of course, as is always the case in these transitional periods, it will take time to find the right "niche", but once things settle, I'm betting that many of the nay-sayers will change their minds. I just hope everyone will give Rosie a chance on The View, and Meredith a chance at Today.
Best of luck to all members of the New View Crew, and very best wishes to Meredith.

78. Meredith's such a classie lady, can't say much for todays show. I felt sorry for her children, what poor taste. I enjoy watching Elisabeth, Star and Joy , but of all people Rosie O to fill Merediths shoes, I don't think so. Think I'll go back to watching Price Is Right.

79. I was at work so I did not get to see the final show with Meredith. I think she will fit in just fine with the Today crew! She is a lady with class yet with a great sense of humor just like Katie! I am looking forward to seeing her on the Today Show and watching Katie be a ancorwomen on the nightly new!s But Rosie for the Veiw? Sorry ---that just does not sit right with me--she just has too caustic of a personality. I will quit watching the view in Sept. She just isnt a good replacement for Meredith. Couldnt they have gotten someone else?

80. I agree with comments made previously. The send-off was definitely in poor taste and a horrible tribute to Meredith. I will anxiously await her appearance on Today which I think will prove to be a happy addition to the already affable group there. As for Rosie, I loved her show but am afraid she might be too heavy handed for The View. I will continue to watch the ladies but I would be happy never to see Mario Cantone or Gilbert Gottfried again. They were crude and not in the least funny. I don't know how they could have spoken as they did in front of her family. Meredith has been wonderful and a real spark of talent and wit on the show.

81. I thought it was in very poor taste especially in front of her family. I was embarassed for her and her family. They could have done a much better
job and had a much better program. That was no Complement to her after
nine years. Shame on you at the View.

82. The only person worth watching on the View after Merideth leaves, will be Joy! Today's "roast" was an hour I'll never get back in my life again....and made it easy to see that Merideth is going to a much better place!! The Heather McCartney jokes were sick and tasteless....and sad that the only thing that could be said for Star was that she lost 150 lbs......The View just lost a loyal viewer...Me!

83. I usually watch the view, but evidently didn't miss much missing it today. I love Meredith on the View and also on the Millionaire. She is the reason I watch both of these programs.

I am looking forward to watching her on the Today Show. I am unsure if I will watch the View in the future, it seems Joy is the only interesting person left to watch. As for Rosie I don't think her sexual preference should have anything to do with her place on the show.

Good luck both to Meredith and Katie, I think they are both great and wish them great success.

84. I was disappointed in today's show. I know they were trying to do it in the spirit of Meredith, but it did not work. It was not very funny and sometimes it was painful to watch. I wish the best for Meredith and I know that Rosie will do her best. I will miss Meredith.

85. I love the view and didn't watch the farewell. Meredith was the best, too bad it wasn't Elisabeth to go. She doesn't bring anything to the table but her love for George W! What were they thinking hiring her?

well, good luck Meredith, I'll be sure to watch you on "today"!

86. I used to watch The View religiously. I really enjoyed it and all the girl talk etc. I don't watch it much anymore as it did not seem to keep my interest.
Also, the constant interupting of each other was very irritating at times. Star Jones seemed to change her persona with her weight loss and acts very haughty. I am happy for her but she simply isn't a fit for the show anymore. Joy
has a nasty mouth, Elisabeth is sweet, and Barbara is too mature for the
nonsense that is on going. Today was really the kiss of death for the show -- it was totally off the wall with the kiss ---it should not have happened.

87. I was really disappointed watching the last show that Meredith Vieira was on. Terrible choices to roast her and not funny at all. I like Rosie but the View will not be the same.

88. This great nation is coming to its knees due to the decline of morality. Sadly The View demonstrated today that it is surely coming to its knees due to the terrible way that it behaved in the process of trying to say good-bye to the backbone of the program. Meredith Vieira deserved a better send off. I felt sorry for what her husband and children saw and heard. Meredith deserved better. She has class!

89. What a shame... That was horrible, had to have been the worst View show ever, let alone a goodbye for Meredith. She was the show. To send her off with such disrespect and no class. What was that. Star and Elizabeth were emotion-less.
I don't know , the whole show was creepy. I am surprised at Barbara. These people love her, did they see her 3 kids and husband there, please..
Hey look I love roasts. But this is a women who deserved so much more.

90. Iguess i am not sorry i missed the fairwell show. i will miss Meridith, she was the backbone of the show. I think joy could take over in her spot. As for rosie,, i really like her, i see her as a comic and nothing else. who am i to judge some one. As for the rest of the View They should sit back and do what they did for the last nine years, and give Joy the the chance she deserves.
