Meredith's 'Brokeback' Farewell

Joy Behar and Meredith VieiraFriday's episode of 'The View' was the last hoorah for co-host Meredith Vieira -- she's set to fill Katie Couric's seat on 'Today.' Joy, Barbara, Star and Elisabeth roasted their co-host for their send-off, but Joy gave her something to really remember -- a kiss!

Behar went in for the liplock during her turn at the dais. "I love you so much, you know that," she told Vieira. "I just don't know how to express it. So I thought to myself, 'What would Rosie O'Donnell do?'"

That's when Behar made her move.

Afterwards, Vieira talked backstage about her favorite moments from her last day on 'The View.'

Vieria joins 'Today' in September.

91. I think the show will sink after losing Meridith. Rosie will not fit in with the other host. Today was a roast and they usually talk about sex, so maybe it was a bad choice for Meridith to bring her children. Good lucl Meridith I do not think I will watch the view anymore.

92. I have to agree with everyone else about the horrible send off show for Meredith. She deserved so much more then what they came up with. It was disgusting not funny. And that Mario Cantone strats out with roasting Joan Rivers first instead of Meredith. It was so stupid. They should have never had him or Joan or Gilbert Gottfried. Celebrity Roasts can be done with class and fun but this one was just in very POOR taste. Again, Meredith deserved better then that. Like she said she asked for George Cloney and got Gilbert Gottfried. I would certainly think that Barbara and Bill The View Master are very embarrassed over that show. I kind of had a feeling that Star was embarrassed. To me neither she or Elisabeth looked very comfortable. We all pretty much know her husband and kids were.
I will give the show a chance after Rosie starts. But if it is bad like it was today I will no longer watch.
To me Meredith was the heart and soul of the show and should have had a more classy send off then that garbage.

93. I don't ever recall the word "bitch" ever used so often in 1 hour of television. Maybe her kids liked the people on the set before, I'll bet they have a different opinion now! Meredith deserved much better. It was a great show with Meredith hosting...I don't usually watch the whole show, just the first 15 minutes when the women are discussing the news of the day. Although I like Rosie, I don't think she will be a good moderator...with her everything is all about her and everything is either sarcastic or funny. That doesn't work if you truly want a VIEW of the world.

94. The View seemed too much like a Gossip Session. I quit watching it long ago . They just got so stale and dull. Good luck to Meredith Viera taking Katie Couric's place on NBC

95. I love ABC, I love Charlie,Diane, Robin and all of GMA...but for the life of me...where in the world did "the View" come from??? Baba is so full of herself that I never watched except an occasional accident !..whenever a show brings Religion into it thats it for me !!! when baba a couple of months back knocked the Catholic church..she really needs to get totally OFF THE AIR... and REALLY !!! MERIDITH WAS NOT ALL THAT GREAT...ABC WAKE UP i MIGHT HAVE TO QUIT !!!!!

96. I have watched The View since the very first show. Iam very disapointed that Meredith is leaving and more disapointed that Rosie will be joining The View. I watched her program when she had her own program for a while but soon got tired of her "big mouth". Every time I see her "guest" on a show, she seems to want to take over. No one on The View will get a chance to speak because Rosie will try to be the whole show. I will miss Meredith greatly and I will also miss seeing The View as I doubt if I will be watching. I think Barbara and Bill could have made a better selection for a co-host.

97. This "goodbye" episode was a disaster... The View lost it's best Commentator (No Barbara, not you!). What a poor excuse for a send-off for someone so "loved" and "admired". Meredith will be a success wherever she goes. As for the View? Star is an ego-maniac. Joy is far too raw for AM television. Babs is an ego-maniac. The GOP blonde who hasn't a clue about poverty... Sorry to say because we know you have a heart Meredith, but what took you so long to leave this upstanding group?

98. For someone having a long and distinguised career, Barbara Walters just lost my respect after watching todays show. I rearranged my work schedule so I could stay home and watch the farewell show and after 30 minutes,I couldn't stand to witness anymore. Do producers not look over anyones comments to be made before hand, or do they not have any control at all over what is going to be said by their guests or talent? I am anxious to see if anyone on Mondays show mentions or offers an explanation for todays show. That is the only reason I will tune in one last time. I can't support a show that would pay tribute to a team player with such disrespect. My heart goes out to Merideth and her family and I hope she knows how much her fans were feeling let down after todays show. You deserved so much better and the better will be at Today!

99. I thought the show was what Meredith wanted...so, if it was, then so be it. What concerns me is that Rosie, Star and Joy are such leftists, Barbara is classy enough not to show her political views, so it leaves quiet little conservative Elizabeth to stick up for us Republicans....Meredith was a class act and although
I am certain she is a liberal, she never shoved it in your face the way Star, Joy and Rosie do!!! I will watch a few times and then make up my mind.

100. What a terrible and dissapointing send off for Meredith! I could not believe that such a tastless hour of attempted comedy would be allowed by Barbara Walters. I Hope you apologize to Meredith's family, too! I have enjoyed Star through the years, she portrayed the only sincere and classy act. I feel that Joy is too crass. I will not watch any more! You all had a great thing going, but Merediths replacement is a dissappointment! Surely you could have found a more talented person.

103. I also agree that the send off for Meredith on The View was very distasteful. She did deserve better than she was given. Barbara Walter may be a ''Seasoned Vet" but as of today in my eyes she is wahed up and out. Lets all say GOOD-BYE to them all with more class than they all showed Meredith and her family. Please no re-runs of the "Rosie" show. I don't think anyone could stomach that. Has anyone ever though she looks like the Cartoon Dora the Explorer?????

104. Ditto to most of the above comments. What a sad, uncomfortable sendoff to the real 'glue' in that group.
Like most of you I think the View will now sink and I will not miss it if that happens, given their next co-host choice.
The best part about all of this is that Meredith Viera became her own, beloved, person over the last nine years making the View what it was and now she will finally bring some creditability to the Today show and teach Matt Lauer how to be himself & enjoy life again. You go Meredith...

105. I really felt that "The View" would suffer and lose a big part of their audience when Meredith left. After watching the pathetic and embarassing send off she received today, I am now sure of it. I do not intend to ever watch the show again. Good luck and best wishes to Meredith, the heartbeat of the show!
