Beyoncé Ambushed by PETA at Nobu

Beyoncé was confronted Thursday night at the swanky restaurant Nobu in New York City by two members of People For the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). The two had won an eBay auction, benefiting VH1's Save the Music Foundation, to dine with the star. Beyoncé had no idea they were PETA members.

TMZ obtained video of the confrontation, shot by PETA, taped inside the restaurant. As they sat at the table, Beyoncé, who has a fashion line with her mother that uses fur, had no idea what was coming. After placing their orders, the PETA members confronted the singer.

The PETA members then pulled out a portable DVD player and began playing a tape of Pamela Anderson's attack on the fur industry, which highlights graphic footage of the process of killing animals for their fur.

Also present at the table -- Beyoncé's mother Tina and her sister Solange.

The PETA members were swiftly escorted out of the restaurant. Beyoncé and her relatives stayed inside.

Calls to Beyoncé's reps were not immediately returned.

2748. This is sooooooooooo not about Beyonce's talents. This is about PETA doing whatever they can to get into a celebrity's face.

I do have to agree with the majority of you as far as what we should truly be concerned about. In Africa and right here in the States, there are children dying, being raped, using drugs, being taken advantage of online and in person by pedophiles and yet you applaud PETA for talking about fur in someone's clothing.

If you don't like it, don't buy it.

What PETA should be doing is taking all of that energy and using it to fight for the children being abducted and such via pedophiles running rampant. Or use that in the fight against AIDS or the destruction of villages of people in Africa.

Then it would be worthwhile.

People don't have to use fur just like people don't have to eat meat but it happens. I would rather focus on what I can change to better the lives of our children than focus on an animal. We are all GOD's creatures and who are we to judge.

When she stands before GOD on judgement day, she will have to answer to HIM only for her sins, not PETA, not the public or anyone else.

2749. Killing an animal for food is very different from torturing (strangled, beaten and skinned alive) an animal for its fur just because you can afford it! Killing and Torturing have completely two different meaning. Have a heart.

2750. Debra (8):
Alright then. Say that you're walking down the street one day when you step in a trap. Say that someone comes along a while later, takes you off to the factory, and then proceeds to stick a knife in your skin and peel it off...while you're still alive. Pleasant?
"Ignorant", as you described the woman advocating PETA's cause, is defined as "destitute of knowledge and education". PETA's woman cannot be called "ignorant". She was obviously well-informed about the process that animals undergo when humans kill them for their fur.
Beyonce is certainly not the first nor only woman to wear fur; however, she is a public figure. She influences people in music, style, and fashion - and in that, the decision to wear fur. So PETA's aim in attempting to convince Beyonce not to wear fur is to dissolve one of the stronger links in the business.
"As for me I am going to buy me a new fur coat this year." Now that's just sour grapes.

sarah (11):
Yes, so people eat animals. We can't change that. It's part of the food cycle. The most we can do is persuade them to switch to vegetarianism, a healthier alternative than carnivorizing.
We don't picket supermarkets (not as an organization). We do, however, mail, e-mail, and fax to major food corporations such as Whole Foods Market.

----

G (13):
It wasn't a charity auction; it was on eBay.
Who cares? The people at PETA.
Animals are every bit as intelligent as ourselves, though we choose not to acknowledge it. I assume that you're one of those people who consider humankind to be the superior species on the planet. Guess what? We're not. Sure, we may have had some potential in the beginning (think 1800s), but now.....now we've "evolved" into coarse, crude beings. Want an example? Go to a movie rental store and pick any recently released movie off of the shelf. There's a good chance that the main focus of the movie is in what happens in bed and how many curse words you can fit into one sentence.
Admittedly, war should be righted. However, it's my opinion that as long as there is hatred in the world, war will never be gone. And isn't it in human nature to hate, to fear the unknown?
Only when we can hold the same attitude to animals that we try to extend to all other humans can the "kind" truly be put into "humankind".

----

Lisa (24):
Actually, we did have the right. We bought it from her on eBay. And PETA's representative paid for the dinner.

---

Gene Morgan (30):
Learn to spell.

----

Anita (35):
Yes, there are so many causes to fight for. But if an organization tried to fight all of them, it'd never get anything done.
We HAD acted appropriately to Beyonce. We sent her letters, e-mails, and faxes. She never replied. We held peaceful demonstrations outside of her concerts. No reply. This was our chance to meet her face-to-face and really tell her. So we would know that she knew what she was doing to animals, even if her agent was discarding all our letters, e-mails, and faxes, even if she just skimmed over our pleas.

----

Steve Schmidt (36):
I do believe that PETA supports human-animal interaction. As long as it's not at the price of the animal. So you should spay and neuter your cats and dogs.

----

Matt (38):
There's a difference between animals for FASHION and animals for FOOD. PETA doesn't advocated either, but animals for fashion is just a frivolous waste of life.

----

Bernard (43):
Imagine that the only reason you live is for someone to come over and rip your skin off. We humans are so obsessed with the "purpose for life". There you have it. The purpose of those raised-for-fur animals' lives is to have someone else wear their skin.

----

anita (48):
Let's see. A thug is usually male, 6 feet high, and weighing between 200 to 400 pounds. I am female, 5'7", and weigh 135. I have never beaten a person up in my life.
We're not "always out of line". We've been diplomatic to Beyonce, and she hasn't responded.

----

bjreg3 (49):
"should be recognized as a terrorist organization for their part in blowing up medical research facilities researching diseases such as cancer and others".
We don't do that. We choose not to fight violence with violence.

----

Vickie (55):
Perhaps you haven't noticed how many fur industries there are in the country. Perhaps you haven't noticed how many people still insist on calling foie gras a "delicacy". Perhaps you haven't noticed how many stories of dogs being thrown into rings and pitted against each other in fights to the end.
"People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals". That's what we stand for.
Animals CAN survive. They've been doing that for the last couple billion years. It's the humans that are killing them off.

----

Deviant Ego (56):
PETA's representative handled herself quite well.

2751. You know, I'm a vegetarian, animal-welfare-concerned and all that so I guess I approach this with that bias, but that aside, am I the only one who is troubled by the deliberately mean-sprited tone of some of the comments above? It's certainly a proper debate to discuss the issue of animal welfare and human rights, but whether there's war on or diseases to fight or any of a dozen of honest points to be made, does the existence of any larger human condition mean that we shouldn't all be diligent about watching out for animal rights? I think the meat-eating crowd, leather wearers et. al. have plenty of points to make, but I think you might earn more credibility if you were to accept more honestly that there's a cost to these choices.

Eat meat, wear leather, wear fur, use animal-tested cosmetics. Good for you, and everyone gets to decide what their own priorities should be. But don't pretend that you're not earning these luxuries off the suffering of animals, and don't diminish that suffering. I think that animal-rights activists should give your opinion proper respect, but it's dishonest to pretend that it's just the way of the world and that imposing suffering is OK. That's just obstinate, and it makes you look silly.

2752. I laugh at some of these comments...how can anyone feel sorry for Beyonce? I applaud PETA for ambushing her because she has snubbed her nose in the air on several occassions when PETA has asked to meet with her regarding using other alternatives for her fashion line. Animals such as beavers, fox, minx, etc. are brutally tortured and killed for only one purpose..their furs. And with this day in age, there are so many synthetic materials that look and feel similar to fur. We as humans can live without furs...it is not a necessity like food. And the ignorance of some of these commentators absolutely stuns me. I don't think PETA has gone too far. I am a member of PETA , and I do eat meat. I don't get pressure to go vegen. They offer me the information, and I decide whether or not to eat meat. I am a member of PETA because I don't agree with the killing of helpless animals for fur. This organization is out to protect the welfare of animals that don't have the voice to protect themselves. And if you haven't seen the video about fur farms on PETA's website then I highly recommend you do so before you start feeling sorry for Beyonce. She can make a difference with her celebrity status by using cruelty-free synthetic alternatives, and yet she refuses to even educate herself on the issue. Shame on her!

2753. Many years ago, when I didn't stop to think things through, I just accepted the fact that minks and other animals were RAISED for fur coats, like that made it okay...I also rolled my eyes when "those animal rights people" were involved in anything...now that I know what really goes on in the fur industry (and with so many other issues where animals are concerned), it absolutely disgusts me when I see someone wearing fur. A lot of people who wear fur don't know, or don't WANT to know, what has to happen to an animal before their fur is stripped from them. The first time I ever saw an animal being skinned...alive...I didn't even know what to do with myself. I wanted to scream, cry, beat on something, anything, to let my rage out. Have you ever had a hangnail that you pulled on to get rid of it? You know how bad that hurts?! Well imagine you don't stop pulling on it when the pain starts, you just keep pulling your skin over your arm, your body, until there's no skin left to take off...it's not really even possible to imagine, because you could never actually do it, you could never get that far because the pain would be so unbelievably excruciating. Yet that's what millions...MILLIONS.. of animals go through. And why? So people can wear them. So people can feel like they look beautiful, sexy, and be admired for their coat...what's beautiful is the fur, not the person. The person is NOT beautiful, the person is NOT admired...the FUR is what's beautiful...but far more beautiful on its RIGHTFUL OWNER. And the person who is most offensive is the one who refuses to be educated and looks the other way because they just love fur coats way too much to have to feel bad...they love fur too much and know its monetary value in the world of retail, so they don't WANT to know, they don't CARE beyond the money that can be made.
Why...WHY do people think they have the RIGHT to torture and mutilate so they can wear fur? What gives ANYONE that right? NOTHING! Greed doesn't give anyone a RIGHT to kill an animal for their fur. Please...go to furisdead.com and watch the videos, especially the one about fur farming in China. If you don't come away from it enraged and against the fur industry...well, I wouldn't know where to go from there.
As far as PETA and all animal rights people go...thank God for them. Once you know what happens in the dark side of the animal world, you will be glad they are out there doing what they do for the animals. And know this...if they seem to "go too far" in their approach, it's only because they have tried all other means to get people to listen...sometimes you have to get in someone's face to make things happen...that's why PETA sometimes stages demonstrations that might seem over the-top...people pay more attention that way. I, for one, am so very grateful to them for all the animals whose lives they have saved over the years.
So please, understand why they had to approach Beyonce the way they did...and they were very nice about it, they never spoke disrespectfully...they were just trying to get her to understand...if and when she ever does, and this includes Jennifer Lopez and her Sweetface line of clothing, many animal's lives will be saved, just from those two women grasping the reality of the ugly, ugly truth of what they are doing.
Also know that animal rights people DO try to get the message out about leather, the meat industry, etc. It isn't just about fur...there's a LOT of injustice in the world of animals, and a great deal of work to be done to help them.
Please...educate yourselves...you won't be sorry.

2754. PETA is a tax exempt organization that apparently isn't opposed to fur because they ask people to donate old fur coats and the like and they give them to the homeless. Either you are against fur it or your not. I'll eat whatever animal I want. I'll wear whatever fur I want. I would like the government to take away their tax exempt status on the grounds of harassment and unethical practices. Beyonce did not need to be harassed at a dinner by the ilk of that organization. Their tactics are going to get someone injured.
Besides PETA has been linked to terrrorist activities. That alone should close them down.

2755. As human beings, we all hold different sets of beliefs in our lives. Whatever these beliefs are, and to what degree they are felt, we either ACT on these beliefs, or...we STAND MUTE and do nothing. In regard to PETA, I support and have many of the beliefs that this gutsy organization has. But unlike myself and many others, PETA "walks its talk". PETA does SOMETHING and ACTS ON ITS BELIEFS ! If all the rest of us got right out there and acted upon what we say we believe in, the world would indeed become a much better place.
To me, imposing pain and suffering upon animals or ANY LIVING BEING does not seem right, especially when the gain is NOT FOOD, NOT SHELTER, BUT PURE UNALDULTERATED NEEDLESS LUXURY. I have always been an animal lover, and even so, years ago I wore fur. I have since donated my fur to a humane organization that uses the fur as surrogate mothers to baby fur-bearing animals who have lost their natural mothers in steel-jaw traps and other methods of trapping. Once I stepped into the reality of the fur industry and understood the senseless decimation of countless creatures for our own pleasure, it made me feel like an abusive caretaker. And...we are all caretakers here on this planet...even if some of us deny that responsibility. HOORAY for PETA who created an innovative way to infiltrate the totally UNAWARE world of Beyonce!!!!
