Britney Weeps "With The World"

Praising the paparazzi for their skill as she decried their invasiveness, Britney Spears defended her marriage and her mothering skills to all of America this morning, and suggested a possible career for herself in publishing should the pop-star gig fall through.

In her long-awaited and much-hyped interview with Matt Lauer, Spears gamely answered Lauer's questions about her marriage and the driving-with-Sean-on-lap incident, but couldn't staunch the flow of tears when asked about the relentless pursuit of the paparazzi.

During the five-minute segment on this morning's "Today" show (the rest of the interview will air tonight on "Dateline") the pop princess conveyed a certain helplessness as well as something approaching a sense of humor about having the media's microscope trained unblinkingly on her life. "They're very good, you know," she said of the glossies, "I need to come up with my own magazine and say the real deal."

Dressed in a deep-plunging purplish knit top and a hip-skimming, gently frayed denim skirt and wearing frosted-silver eye makeup, Spears sat forward in an armchair in her Malibu home as she spoke to Lauer, and assured him that her husband Kevin Federline was indeed "living on the main floor," though she didn't specify where.

She said that K-Fed was "working very hard," though not on what exactly, and that he "helps" her because "he has to," none of which constituted a billowing declaration of love. Britney also identified Perry Taylor, the purported "manny," as her "security guard."

Spears explained that when she drove in her SUV with her son Sean Preston on her lap, the Starbucks from which she was racing away was only "five minutes" from her home, and that the photographers were "coming up on the, you know, sides of the car, which is a scary situation for me ... they're banging on the windows and that's not somethin' I want my baby to, you know ..."

The emotional nexus of the piece emerged when Spears told Lauer that she has "definitely wept just with the world." And, prodded not a little bit by Lauer's asking her if shedding the paparazzi for good would be "one of [her] biggest wishes," paused as the quiver caught her lip and brow, and began crying freely. "We just need privacy and we need our respect.  And-and those are things that you have to have as a human being," she said, the words heightened by the close-up of her face, puffy, reddened, and blotchy.

31. If you are a good parent, why then do you need to go on national television to say so?
You obviously need to explain it because no one sees it...
Furthermore, blame your ignorant antics and emotional wreckage on yourself,
not on people who capture moments of you doing so.

32. She seemed to have no problem working and posing for the press in New York ....oh until she almost dropped the baby while carrying a glass and wearing those shoes with the long pants. She just wants the attention on her terms and that just isn't the way life works. Not for you, not for me and not for her.

She'll have to decide what she wants more the privacy or the popularity.

34. While I feel bad about Britney always being followed by the paparizzi, I don't think she is a very good mother. Driving with your baby in your lap is just wrong. I don't care how "country" you are and pictures don't hurt, accidents do. Plus driving in a convertable with the top down on the freeway is not good for a baby and they can't slump over like that if you have them belted properly. Sure their heads can sag if they are sleeping but there is no way my son could lay like that in his carseat!!

35. Move? Photogs followed Brad and Angelina to Africa...I don't think it's that easy to get away from. I hate when people say they deserve it because people buy their cd's?? The girl was 14, do you really think she thought this would happen...being harrased..her private life and parenting abilities spoken about every where. Because someone is famous..they shouldn't have to have their personal security, and privacy taken away. No one deserves to be followed 24/7, they don't seserve it because they are rich...what a ignorant way of thinking!

36. So then why does she create a reality show for the world to see her and Kevin hooking up? Aren't those supposed to be "private" moments? All celebrities crave attention - the only stipulation being - they want it when they want it, or when they can make money from it. If all the cameras went away tomorrow, she'd think of a way to get the focus back on her...because when the focus isn't on her...it means her career is dead.

37.
That's the price you pay for stardom. They want the exposure when they feel like it? Yes, there should be boundaries, but there isn't. So you deal with it different. Brad and Angelina at least went to a country where they called the shots. You can move and live quietly.(I did not say out of country . Not acting like trash also helps. She should be in control of her life and she isn't. Where is her family and managment? They should also be running the show. That's what they get $ for. I feel sorry for her baby. What did she think she was going to get for marrying that winner with 1.2 kids at the time? He will use her till she can't be used. I feel sorry for the choices she made. She doesn't look happy. Call me IGNORANT, I say Control your life Britney, no one else
is going to.

39. C'mon people leave the poor thing alone already! People do make mistakes she is human. I do think she is aware of the "mistakes" shes made without the world pointing them out for her! As for "crying on command" okay well first of all she is pregnant and probably still has the baby blues!!!!!!!No one is perfect.

41. There is a lot of talk and controvesy surrounding this young lady, but bottom line is she is one of the most sought after people. She is beautiful, she danced her butt off and the youguns loved her. I adore her and why should she move, i agree with those who say who's right is it anyways. I saw her cry and it was totally heart felt and real. She's a baby herself. The 20s are rough enough, then with a baby, a husband, and all her fame, judgment and popos following her, AND she's pregnant, you wouldn't cry too? Turn it on, water works? I think not, at least she wasn't poppin' middle fingers, grabbin marc parts and being angry. It was an honest plea for hey, I was cute, I was young, I was pimped by the media and TV and now I'm tryin to live my life. So what I made a lot of money and how many young 20 year olds pick Mr. Rite of the Bat? Get a grip. Cast ye not the first stone. She's beautiful, a work of art.

42. She looks tired and ragged. Did she fire her make-up artist and stylist ? I know she's pregnant but she should be glowing. You can tell she is not happy, but who would be in her state. Poor little rich girl...be careful what you wish for and what you want it can back fire emmensely. Not that it matters but i do think she needs to be put on the back burnner as far paparazzi goes. Give Mrs. trailer park a break.

43. The fact of the matter is that Britney is getting all this flack because she is in the public eye, and CHOSES to stay there. I SURE that every young mother has made mistakes, but not every young mother is in the lime light like she is. So yes it's unfair that she is riddiculed, but if she wanted to, she could keep a lower profile and not draw as much attention to herself (and thus the problems she's had). Look at all the people in Hollywood that have had babies recently (and all through the years) and you don't hear about there baby mistakes (and I'm sure they've had them). You only get back from the world what you put out into it. So if Brittney wants to be left alone, she needs to lock down that husband of hers (or get rid of him altogether), stop all the appearances and get back to family. And I don't think that getting out of town would hurt her one bit. She's got a home in Louisana, sure the photogs might follow her there, but they aren't going to stay long if she doesn't give them anything to report.

All I can say is Good Luck Brittney! I hope things get better for you. :)

45. Watching that clip was heartbreaking for me. I was a fan of hers since the beginning and I still am. I know and I can see that she is hurting tremondously and she really needs to make some life changes for herself. A couple years back she was in control of her life and I think she needs to gain that control again. Marriage is difficult and it makes it even harder when you have children together because you dont want to fail them, but she will realize that he will fail her and their children and finally move on with her life and gain the respect she once had.
