Celebrity Law Breakers -- Why They Get Off (2)

Britney Spears driving with Sean Preston in her lap.Incident: Britney Spears drove last February with her 4-month-old son, Sean Preston, sitting on her lap, without a child restraint.  (Read the article: Exclusive: DCFS Investigates Britney)

Stakes: California law requires drivers to secure children sitting in the front seat who are under a year old or under 20 pounds.  A violation is punishable by a fine of $100, except the court may reduce or waive the fine if the defendant is economically disadvantaged. We're pretty sure Britney isn't.

Dispo: The L.A. County Sheriff's Department did not pursue the case against Spears, because the offense requires that an officer witness it and that didn't happen.  The Department of Children and Family Services paid a visit to Spears after the incident but we're told no formal action was taken.

Britney's child mishaps continued, the latest being an incident in which Spears stumbled outside the Ritz Carlton in New York City and nearly dropped SPF on the ground. She then muttered, "This is why I need a gun."

Britney is now expecting child number two.

Jesse McCartneyIncident:
Jesse McCartney, 18 at the time, photographed clutching a Corona in the 21-and-over Hollywood club Mood. (Read the article: Exclusive: Underage Stars Party Illegally at Clubs)

Stakes: For a minor in possession of alcohol -- are you listening Jesse? -- it is a $250 fine or as much as 32 hours of community service.

Dispo: Jesse wasn't cited.  We wanted to know why.  The California Alcholic Beverage Control (ABC) told TMZ that in order to nail Jesse, someone from the agency must witness the incident.  A photo isn't enough.

By the way, Mood risks losing its license when it serves to underage patrons or even allows them into the club.  Although TMZ has video of underage celebs entering the club, including Mary-Kate Olsen, Lindsay Lohan and others, Mood has never been cited by the ABC.  An ABC spokesman tells TMZ they have now launched an official investigation.

31. Ok, here is the deal. This is a complete misjustice on the law's side of things. All of these celebs can get away with practically anything. Yes every once in awhile they get caught doing something stupid and get cited. But most of the time they don't. Now if they were black (i.e. rappers, atheletes), they would have been thrown in jail and cited. I want to know where there is a place that I can throw a bag of weed around in front of the cops and get away with it. Show me a place where it is ok to hit a car, and steal a tape and NOTHING gets done about it. One thing is for sure if I was that cop or the owner of the civic. Those two would have gotten what they deserved. We need people like TMZ to catch these guys doing screwed up stuff that they would arrest us for.

.....its sad really.

32. I just have to make a special comment about Britney Spears. I have a son, and there is no way in hell i would ever think of risking my sons life driving like that. She has already proven she is a horrible driver, like most celebs. But what she's doing is just insane. I i got caught doing that i would be put in jail and my son taken away from me. I think the same should be done to her!!!

HELL THAT'S THE PRINCIPLE TO THIS COUNTRY. WHY SHOULD OTHERS HAVE TO FOLLLOW RULES BECAUSE THEY'RE MID INCOME BUT IF YOU'RE RICH YOU CAN LITERALLY GET AWAY WITH MURDER? GET A LIFE DONNIE AND QUIT TRYING TO DEGRADE A COUNTRY IN WHICH YOU LIV. TAKE PRIDE DON'T BE AN IDIOT YOURSELF

37. Celebrities are humans too, they deserve equal treatment as the rest of us in ALL ways, INCLUDING THEIR PRIVACY, which is the only reason any of these photos appeared in the first place. And for those of you who whine that they are spolied...you would be the same way if you were in their shoes.

What people will do and say for money amazes me everyday.

38. I was watching the Brittney Spears inview with Matt last nite, I think she is still not a good mother and is more into herself then her child I felll sorry for the newone because it will take first place now and son Shawn and he will have to grow upto soon. If she wants to leave a life other than and singing or is that what she does. She lost her little Brittney ways and I think she should either enjoy her wealth from her sorry singing and acting and go into another place in life. That way know one would care to take pictures ,you have to pay the price and camerons and stories are it

39. HEY LORIANN, don't you dare try and say that this country does things this way. Only Hollywood. Do you think the troops are over there thinking... man i hope my fighting will allow these hollywood bastards to get away with anything they want. Hell no. This country doesn't DO things this way, if we did then why the f*** do you think that 90% of this great nation is opposed to it????

41. We all have broke the law and got away with it aleast once in our life.
So why complain about others. We all have speeded up when a yellow light was on. We drop trash (not myself) gum ect. on the ground just little things but it's still braking the law . So who cares if stars get off. Wrong words I used...I mean who cares if they get away with braking the law!

42. I don't think it is right for the stars to get special treatment but the truth is that that always have and always will it should not suprise a single one of you . You know the golden rule it's just that gold if you got enough money and power you can get away with murder literally and everybody know it classic example OJ need I say more. Thats life deal with it. And to Donnie O you ask if we thought people would really sit and talk about stuff knowing that might incriminate them well hello they did .

44. The one thng so blatent with this? the fact that if you or I did this and was shown doing it, we would be caught and action taken, Things should be equal for all.

the way of the world?? not so good

45. First,in response to an earlier post, you can't drink in bars on base even if you 've been shot in the leg in Iraq UNLESS you are 21. That being said, we act as if celebrities shouldn't be allowed to break the law and yes, that is true. However, because we are willing to pay $10 for a movie ticket by the thousands, or $75 to watch a football game we instill in these people that they are somehow above the law. Some of my friends say this theory is completely groundless and natually I disagree. These celbrities/athletes are paid millions of dollars for which they can use to buy cocaine, bottles of wine, or whatever (not to mention the best lawyers in town...think that doesn't work, look at our friend O.J. Simpson). Because of their status they are allowed to do things that the average Joe like me and you can't do, and to that I say salute. You'd better believe that if I were a celebrity, I'd probably do the same thing and flaunt it right in everyones face.
