Celebrity Law Breakers -- Why They Get Off (2)

Britney Spears driving with Sean Preston in her lap.Incident: Britney Spears drove last February with her 4-month-old son, Sean Preston, sitting on her lap, without a child restraint.  (Read the article: Exclusive: DCFS Investigates Britney)

Stakes: California law requires drivers to secure children sitting in the front seat who are under a year old or under 20 pounds.  A violation is punishable by a fine of $100, except the court may reduce or waive the fine if the defendant is economically disadvantaged. We're pretty sure Britney isn't.

Dispo: The L.A. County Sheriff's Department did not pursue the case against Spears, because the offense requires that an officer witness it and that didn't happen.  The Department of Children and Family Services paid a visit to Spears after the incident but we're told no formal action was taken.

Britney's child mishaps continued, the latest being an incident in which Spears stumbled outside the Ritz Carlton in New York City and nearly dropped SPF on the ground. She then muttered, "This is why I need a gun."

Britney is now expecting child number two.

Jesse McCartneyIncident:
Jesse McCartney, 18 at the time, photographed clutching a Corona in the 21-and-over Hollywood club Mood. (Read the article: Exclusive: Underage Stars Party Illegally at Clubs)

Stakes: For a minor in possession of alcohol -- are you listening Jesse? -- it is a $250 fine or as much as 32 hours of community service.

Dispo: Jesse wasn't cited.  We wanted to know why.  The California Alcholic Beverage Control (ABC) told TMZ that in order to nail Jesse, someone from the agency must witness the incident.  A photo isn't enough.

By the way, Mood risks losing its license when it serves to underage patrons or even allows them into the club.  Although TMZ has video of underage celebs entering the club, including Mary-Kate Olsen, Lindsay Lohan and others, Mood has never been cited by the ABC.  An ABC spokesman tells TMZ they have now launched an official investigation.

46. I am not sure all this is cases of celebrities being treated differently. Most of these violations are so minor tbat I wouldn't expect the cops to put any effort into them. If they weren't celebrities, would anyone care about any of this stuff?

48. Dear Janette,
You do realize that a very large amount of people OVER the age of 21 drink and drive? When you hear about someone dying because of a drunk driver it's usually an adult male, not a teenager. Age doesn't give you the ability to hold your alcohol. It's about responsibility and maturity. Personally, I know a lot of high school students who are more mature than a good deal of 21 year olds. Also, as a college student.. I've never driven after drinking. But thank you for stereotyping my age group as a bunch of irresponsible deliquints.

49. Dawn,

I think that everyone believes in equality, not just intelligent people. In fact, intelligent people realize that the world isn't fair. How many times has the office suckup been promoted before the hard working quiet guy????? Not fair. Why is it that a Kennedy can be drunk driving, crash right beside the capitol at 3am, and not even recieve a breath test for blood alcohol content. Not fair. The world isn't fair, it never has been, and never will be. It's survival of the fittest, and in America, the fittest have millons of dollars.

50. Part of what is said is true, but part of it is off the mark. Celebs seem to get off scott free when no one else does because they are in the spotlight so much. As for no one else getting lenience, that's not true either. In most areas the incidents are judged on a case by case basis, depending on the seriousness of the incident and the person's history in the system. Seems the ones most hostile are the ones that have a history themselves. The system's not perfect but it's comes closer that a lot of people admit. By the way, the country isn't what's screwed up, it's a PART of the system!!

51. Donnie, you are f*cking stupid you idiot.

Posted at 9:15AM on Jun 16th 2006 by Lindsey

52. Yep, the celebs should have the same treatment we get when we do something stupid. They almost should get punished more, because alot of people look up to them, and they set a bad example.Unfortunately, that's what celebs are for...entertainment, and it is very entertaining to see some of these idiots! At least Steve-O wasn't "playing a part", he's for real! BTW, Donny you contradict yourself by implying weed should be legalized, but alcohol is bad, then rant about how you should be able to drink at 18! Our forefathers used to pipe it up before their big "meetings", I've never seen the harm in weed. At 18, you ought to be allowed to have a beer possibly under supervision!

53. boggintuff making such a generalized statement discredits any integrity you may have had while posting. You are not the spokesperson of America, do not try to act like it. You do not know me or anyone else that has not had a chance with tons of money.

54. Donnie, here is the fact of the matter. This country should be worried about 18 year olds drinking. Judging by your frequent spelling and grammatical errors, I'd venture far enough as to say that you yourself, are an 18 year old teenager. We should enforce the rules we have. It isn't a matter of whether or not a soldier that happens to be an 18 year old, can enjoy a beer. The fact of the matter is that a lot of people don't live their lives with any sense of morality or any knowledge of the word "PRINCIPLE." If people like you would start being more virtuous and aiming for something better, this country would be in way better shape. Good day, sir.

55. I think that the paparazzi are sad. You running around making peoples lifes a living hell because of what. They are famous, so what most of em are not that talented anyways. We make these people so rish and powerful by buying there movies and music. Every day people are smoking weed and drinking underage, the only difference is that what we do isn't broadcasted across the world. How can you try to investigate Steve-O with the weed. The police were not there and even if they did something its not like hed do jail time or anything punishable. He'd probaly end up paying some stupid fine because thats all the criminal system is about. MONEY! If you have money you can make anything go away. Believe me i know...

56. OMFG.... This is all stupid, alot like Donnies comments. But i guess each to their own. And yea everyone should get treated equal, but that is just not how it is, or how it ever will be.

57. First if you want to bring up the military and drinking. If you are in the military you can drink your age doesn't matter. And just because your 18 doesn't mean you know what to do. Thousand of teens are killed every year from underage drinking. How many more would die if the age was 18. And as far as having pot legalized just what we need a bunch of stoned morons running around. Stick to the facts if you have the cash you get off. Celebs have the cash and they get off. Don't like it change it. It only takes one person to start an avalanche.

58. just because you are a celebrity does not mean you should get off the hook with a warning, if that were any of us "regular" people then more action would have been taken. Celebrities always complain about wanting to be treated normally so why dont we treat them that way?

Posted at 9:19AM on Jun 16th 2006 by layla

59. This is just in respond to the idiots out there that think POT should be legalized. First of all I have first hand experience in what this crap does to your mental ability and also your physical motor skills. Pot takes your ability to think, reason, comprehend, and concentrate away when you smoke pot! It slows down your motor skills too and just in case you don't know that motor skills means, I am not talking about driving a car. I am talking about the way your body physically responds when you try to move your body parts! I Know...been there, and done that myself for years! There are a lot more things I could of listed also in how pot smoking hurts a person inside and out but I am trying to keep this short! Pot fries your brain over time and makes you think like a jack ass!

60. Forgot to mention. If you were actually in the military in the last decade or so, you would know that you CAN'T drink in bars on any U.S. military base until you are 21 years of age. Get caught drinking under age and the military justice system does deal with it.
