Green Day Saves The Girl

Green DayNo one can argue that Green Day's latest album "American Idiot" isn't chock full of social and political messages. But one message the Bay Area punk group wasn't aware of may have saved an English girl's life.

It turns out the album cover, a stark red, black and white image that shows a hand holding a grenade shaped like a heart, helped a 12 year-old English girl identify some very dangerous small munitions in her back yard.

Ruby Wilson, of Halifax, England, was doing a little afternoon gardening when she found a live grenade lying among the weeds. Ruby recognized the item as a grenade from a Green Day t-shirt she owns. She took the grenade to her father who immediately called the police.

The bomb squad was dispatched to the area and the nearby houses and businesses were evacuated, including a munitions factory, in order to safely remove the World War II era grenade. The grenade was later detonated in a controlled explosion at a nearby playing field.

Here's hoping the next Green Day album has another image of a dangerous item to alert its fans. Possibly an image of rat poison or land mines.

Green Day's reps told TMZ they had no comment.

17. Hahaha I have to agree with "Joe Momma" (whoever that may be), that was really stupid for that girl to carry a live grenade. Especially one from the WWII era. But at least it didn't blow up when she gave it to grandpa. "Look what I found grandpa!" "Oh what could this be!"
-KABOOM!-

18. Why didn't Greenday have any comment? Shouldn't they feel proud that they're album cover, which showed a dangerous weapon, ended up saving a town? Greenday's changed. They've become a trio of arrogant, jerks. By the way, Greenday isn't punk anymore, either.

27. She recognized it, okay. This doesn't really change Green Day's position on good or bad (their new record does talk about the dangers of drugs and rebellion, so that's a plus...the cuss, that's a minus, I still like it though)

"...some heroes...making a grenade look like a heart....this kids just lucky she didn't get blown up, or blow up anyone else..." -comment 5. read the whole thing, don't just take my little quote, but still, I don't think the heart shape made it seem any less dangerous to the little girl.

and last but not least. Green Day is a PUNK BAND!!! It's called power-punk! Sum 41 is about the same thing.

Punk isn't as much a style of music though as a style in general, one that changes frequently, the clothes, the lifestyle, and then there are different steriotypes about all punks do drugs, and that's not true, I don't do drugs (though some punks do), even the Red Hot Chili Peppers had a song against drugs, and the Flea is definitely punk-funk.

28. Green Day has changed with mega-fame. It's a shame...About the girl...the good news is she knew what it was. The bad news is that she was just plain stupid to pick the grenade up! I probably would have done the same thing, but that's no excuse!
