Green Day Saves The Girl

Green DayNo one can argue that Green Day's latest album "American Idiot" isn't chock full of social and political messages. But one message the Bay Area punk group wasn't aware of may have saved an English girl's life.

It turns out the album cover, a stark red, black and white image that shows a hand holding a grenade shaped like a heart, helped a 12 year-old English girl identify some very dangerous small munitions in her back yard.

Ruby Wilson, of Halifax, England, was doing a little afternoon gardening when she found a live grenade lying among the weeds. Ruby recognized the item as a grenade from a Green Day t-shirt she owns. She took the grenade to her father who immediately called the police.

The bomb squad was dispatched to the area and the nearby houses and businesses were evacuated, including a munitions factory, in order to safely remove the World War II era grenade. The grenade was later detonated in a controlled explosion at a nearby playing field.

Here's hoping the next Green Day album has another image of a dangerous item to alert its fans. Possibly an image of rat poison or land mines.

Green Day's reps told TMZ they had no comment.

Tell me about it-- I was thinking the same thing! How can that girl pick it up! But then again, maybe bc on the Greenday shirt a hand was holding the grenade, she thought it would be OK for her to hold it too!

994. Green Day is a really good band && the whole point of thier album "American Idiot" was to send people messages about whats happening in their lives everyday that they might not realize. Thier cover was sending a message about War && America but, the girl who saw the cover is obviously a fan of Green Day recognized the gernade because of Green Day's eye catching && heart touching album. Congrats to Green Day for making a point && saving a fan's life, even though they might not of ment to.

996. Okay... At 12 years old, I knew what a grenade looked like and knew better than to pick it up... And she picked it UP!?? She is lucky the thing didn't blow her up!

And she recognized is from a red, bloody heart-shaped grenade on an album cover? ... A Lonney Tunes cartoon gives better weapon descriptions.

I'm not a Green Day fan, but I bet they didn't comment because they're probably stunned thinking the same thing: "And it didn't blow up??"

997. Maybe they should have changed the name to "English Idiot"

998. They did not LITERALLY save her. You want a story of a rock star saving a fan, you should have done a story on the late, great Japanese guitar god, Hideto "hide" Matsumoto, who saved a fan's life by donating his own bone marrow and then writing the girl letters to make sure she was doing well. THAT'S a rock star saving a life.

And if there is somehow grenades lying around there, how come they don't teach children like they do in Vietnam and some eastern countires where war has left dangerous weapons behind like land mines, what these items look like so they don't do stupid things like this girl. In those countries, children as young as 3 can spot hidden weapons.

Her parents never taught her don't pick up things if you don't know what they are?? And the stupid grenade on the album was a bloody heart... when did they start making heart-shaped grenades? And how did they go that long without ever noticing it before?

That was an old grenade; that girl is very lucky. The pin could have easily fallen out, had she barely even touched it. You have no idea how much more dangerous and unstable such old weapons are. Her finger could have set the shit off.

And she didn't save a whole neighborhood; just herself... how much do you fools think a grenade blows up? My God, talk to a war vet, would you? Or pay more attention in history class. She must have not, either.

I don't like Green Day, but if I were them, I wouldn't comment, either. This is just the most messed up trash I've ever seen.

999. ...WTF
first: who the hell doesn't know what a grenade looks like?
second: who the hell picks up a grenade when they see one?
third: since when does the military make grenades in the shape of a heart?
fourth: WTF??
this is the biggest load of crap I've ever read
