What "It Feels Like" to be LeAnn Rimes

LeAnn Rimes: Click to WatchWhile she's only 23 years old, the country star has had more ups and downs most musicians have in a lifetime. Rimes is at it again with her new single "And it Feels Like" from her latest CD "Whatever We Wanna" and hopes her fans are finally ready to see her as an adult.

"I was so much America's sweetheart and this really sweet little girl and people didn't want to see me grow up," says LeAnn, "I think that is the way with any child star and it is so hard to make that transition."

Since breaking out big at age 13 with hits like "Blue" and the crossover smash "How Do I Live," the Mississippi girl has sold 37 million records and has major world-wide recognition.

Despite her success, Rimes remains humble and says making music comes down to one thing, being happy. "One minute you mean everything to the world and then your success absolutely means nothing, you are just another page in the history books. That is when you go 'what the hell does famous mean??' It really doesn't mean anything at the end of the day, it's when you really have to enjoy what you are doing."

1. I think Faith hill is the "Mississippi Girl", while LeAnn comes from Garland, Texas. Am I mistaken?

3. Chrissy, you are correct. LeAnn Rimes is from Garland, TX. Where did the Mississippi comment come from?

5. LeAnn [born Margaret LeAnn Rimes] was born in Jackson, Mississippi. She lived in Flowood, Mississippi until she was six years old. In 1988 she and her parents moved into a two-bedroom apartment in Garland, Texas [about 15 miles north of Dallas] because there was not a whole lot happening is Mississippi; they felt Texas was a good place to go if LeAnn was going to have any kind of chance. In Garland LeAnn worked her way up to having steady spots on local shows.

She did a number of Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex Oprys ["little Opry" stages in Garland, Mesquite, Greenville and Grapevine]. She auditioned for and was called back for a second audition for the broadway show "Annie II", but did not get the role because of her age and her Southern accent. However, in the following year she landed the role of Tiny Tim in a musical production of "A Christmas Carol," for which she received raving rewiews in local papers.

Just a small LeAnn history lesson for ya :-)

7. I agree with all of you, you make very interesting arguements. LeAnn was in fact born in Jackson, Mississippi, and raised in Garland, Texas. Where her career jetapulted. She is a Mississippian by birth and a Texan by raising, which in this generation doesn't really mean alot. Where you're born and raised has little or nothing to do with your success.

8. And my comment to Chrissy, Faith Hill couldn't come close to LeAnn Rimes, and another little history lesson for anyone interested. Whoever sings "Tiny Town" is from the same town in Mississippi as Faith Hill...
