Wimbledon Gets a Makeover

Wimbledon dons new dudsThings are getting a little more colorful at Wimbledon

After over a century of imposing an all-white dress code, the conservative English tennis institution is allowing fashion designer Ralph Lauren to outfit all of their on-court officials. Umpires, ball boys and ball girls will don navy blue Polo Ralph Lauren pants, shorts, skirts and blazers. The clothes will feature Polo's signature pony on the breast pocket as well as the Wimbledon logo of two crossed racquets.

Unfortunately players like Andre Agassi, who will be making his 14th appearance at the tournament, will still have to abide by the all-white rule.

For the rest of us, Ralph Lauren will offer a line of official Wimbledon clothing available for purchase online and in stores throughout the world.

You can check out Wimbledon's new duds when the tournament begins on June 26.

1. While I applaud Wimbledon's willingness to move forward rather than backward, NAVY BLUE is a completely wrong color to wear in high temperatures. I realize that, never having been to Britain, I don't know much about the weather patterns, I was raised in a hotter than hot climate on the Gulf Coast of Florida. One of the first things you learn is that white reflects heat, and doesn't absorb it as dark colors do. There is a reason summer palates always go to whites and brights or pastels. They keep you cooler in the sun. I do realize that navy blue will look crisp and formal, but if the tennis players are to have a fighting chance, I would recommend going back to the whites. The world is getting hotter year by year, not colder (although that time may still come in my lifetime....a new ice age, after everything in sight melts away_

Did anyone consider this before deciding on this color?
