Madonna, Clay Aiken in Top 50 Worst Songs Ever

Our friends at Blender Magazine have published a terrific list of the "Worst 50 Songs Ever." (A quick hat tip to them for not writing Worst. 50. Songs. Ever.) Big names like Madonna and Clay Aiken we're right near the top.

Clay's "invisible" comes in at #11. Blender says:

"It's not just the schmaltzy play for loser pity ("If I was invisible - wait, I already am"). It's not just the ridiculously purple lyrics. And it's not just the thought of Aiken's eternally asymmetrical porcupine 'do quivering as he soars into a high note. It's the whole hey-girl-I-want-to-watch-you-while-you-think-you're-alone-in-your-bedroom thing that transforms this song from a merely mediocre ballad to a disturbing voyeur fantasy, filling your head with images of Aiken downloading porn and thinking bad things about that girl from homeroom. What lurks in the hearts of lonely geeks? Clay Aiken knows, and it's not pretty."

Madonna didn't escape Blender's wrath either. "American Life" is at #10:

"On which Madonna updates the "Material Girl"–era satire of commercialism and spiritual emptiness - but this time, she does it with what is hands-down the most embarrassing rap ever recorded. Nervous and choppy, she makes Debbie Harry sound as smooth as Jay-Z. The only thing worse than shouting "soy latte"? Rhyming it with "double shot-ay." The rhymes don't kick in for a full three minutes, but the song - propelled by a constipated digital beat and some bungled musings on celebrity culture - stinks the whole way through. "

Hey, Beavis they said "constipated"  - Uh huh huh huh.  Notably, Limp Bizkit comes in at #4, with "Rollin'" - my question is how did the rest of the Bizkit catalog escape the list?

46. Many "journalists" are deaf, they list wht they like and never listen to what 'we' like... who care about all of this? We know what is the best and worst.

48. I was going to write you a slamming message about your comments regarding Clay Aiken -- but lots of people beat me to it!! It's because of people like you that rumors never die. Unless YOU were the MAN with Clay, you have no way of knowing if any of the trash being printed about him is true. So, get a life, and write about facts. And quick using Clay's name to get hits. You're the one that needs to be hit.

49. YOU ARE SO OBVIOUS . WHAT A CHEAP WAY TO GET HITS. OF COURSE,
PICK TWO OF THE MOST POPULAR STARS ON THE LIST. YOU ARE A
PITIFUL JOKE. YOU ARE NOT A KNAT ON CLAY'S BEHIND.

50. Ok i agree with everybody on this page about Clay Aiken's song "Invisible." Honestly whoever wrote this page obviously has NO taste in GOOD music, and they are so0o0o0o0 jealous that they can't hit the high notes, like Clay. Move on with your life, and face it, Clay Aiken ROCKS!!!!!!!!!

51. How long does a song stay on you worse list? Well
any list for that matter? As far as invisible, it was
sung in 2003, not by the choice of the artist mind
you and was on the worse list. Now, 3 years later,
is on the list again. So, did it make the cut for the
worse list in 2004 and 2005. Oh, I get it! It's worse
list material sometimes and sometimes not.
Personally, I like the song. Madonna being #10,
I think there is some underlying intent in her being
placed on the list. Unfortunately, I have not kept
up with Madonna, but by the way you treat Clay's
songs, your credibility is in question. I just can't
put a lot of trust in your so-called "worse list".

52. I think they could have come up with many other worse songs. Not saying that either were the worst, especially Clay's Invisible song. I loved it! My whole family loved it! It was catchy and made you to feel the way you did when you had a crush on someone wondering where they were, who they were with and what they were doing at all times, especially at home in their bedroom. Clay has an awesome voice. Do better research next time. Was that stupid song "Electric Avenue" on the list?

53. It amazes me that some of the fithly lyrics and videos are played over and over on the radio and TV and accepted by DJ's, but you choose Clay to disk on for Invisable. That song is so fun at concerts to sing, (you really should go to his concert to see why his fans love him) and I'm sure has not caused an outbreak of people watching anyone in their room. How many young people watch the bumping and grinding on TV, and listen to the songs about how great having sex is and think they'll try it?? I agree you put Clay and Madonna in there to get hits....and it worked, because I wouldn't have looked for any other reason.

54. The beginning of the article said: big names like Clay Aiken & Madonna...so to put these two names @ 10 & 11 is a big joke to all of us...let's give blender a big hand...minus 4 fingers...i am a huge Clay fan...he is amazing & a real down to earth guy...look at the good in somebody before you start voting on someone being the worst...he in UNICEF ambassador & is constantly helping kids...INVISIBLE was a great song & we all sang to it & enjoyed the lift it gave us...in all honesty maybe blender should become invisible...

55. TO who ever the writer is, I don't care, you Blender Magazine (never even heard of you or your magazine),

You're writing this to get notice of, right? Come on, don't be hypocrite and besides you mentioned the two most sensational and famous singers in the world of pop music, so basically, you got what you want (to be a famous(?!) writer in this famous(?!) magazine, excuse meeee!!! Clay is famous because of his angelic voice and he earned that, but you people in this magazine, what did you earned so far? No comment!!!

56. I agree that "Invisible" is one of the worst songs ever. I'm a huge Clay Aiken fan and always skipped that song on his DC "Measure of a Man". That is until I went on a ClayFest and saw him two nights in a row in concert. When he got to "Invisible" I was jumping up and down, screaming like a 14 year old girl. (46 female) He was laughing and a couple of times held the microphone out to the crowd.

This is the magic of Clay, he wasn't singing it to us, we were singing it to him.

57. I have to agree that the writer here used Madonna's and Clay Aiken's names to get attention drawn to this article. I for one, would like to hear who made the top five and not numbers 10 and 11. What also is missing here is the mention of the talent that made these performers who they are, absolutely wonderful!

58. Clay's Inivisible might not be his best BUT it's not one of the worse ever. Whatever he sings is great for us. His voice is just angelic. Whatever he sings, he does it with great justice.

59. Your writer must be blind to not notice that Clay's hair no longer resembles an "asymmetrical porcupine", though I don't see how it did in the first place. As other people have said, you probably mentioned Clay because you knew that you would get a lot of hits. You have probably upset the whole Clay Nation, which is a very bad thing to do. Just wait until his new CD comes out. I'll bet that you'll be seeing Clay in the top 40 once again. As for Invisible, Clay never says that the song is about him specifically, and he DID NOT write it, so how can you say that he's thinking about "that girl from homeroom"? Personally, I would love it if a guy sang that song to me. I think that it's very sweet.

3. I went and listened to this Invisible song. Thanks Blender, if it wasn't for you I would have missed this great song! I bought and downloaded Clay Aiken's whole CD and it is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!! Especially the song, Touch!

LOL! Is this what they call poetic justice??? HAHAHA! This is so good!
Well, I love that Clay is on people's minds ! No question he has the pipes of perfection ! I do question why you point out "INVISIBLE" when you have "EVERY BREATH YOU TAKE" who's lyrics are about the same thing !
There are so many songs today that use women as sex objects and are laced with foul language and they are help up as examples of good music!
Jessica Simpson wins a People's Choice award for "THESE BOOTS" , go figure???
CLAY AIKEN is a phenominal talent . His sophmore CD will be proof of that fact!
