Stapp Comes Clean

Scott Stapp: Click to WatchPromoting a new album means many personal questions will be aimed at you, and former Creed frontman Scott Stapp is no exception. Stapp has had his run-ins with scandal, having been arrested for disorderly behavior in February and had a sex tape leaked soon after.

Stapp was actually quite candid about both incidents though and defends his actions. About the bust for drunk and disorderly conduct at LAX he says, "I was on my way to my honeymoon with my wife the day after we go married, celebrating our marriage. Apparently someone did not like the fact that I was in such a chipper great mood...You are not allowed to be intoxicated in public I found out." No charges were filed in that incident.

Soon after the arrest, Stapp was dealt another blow when a sex tape, co-starring Kid Rock and some strippers, leaked on the internet.

"This was one particular incident when me and Kid Rock had some strippers...there is no sexual intercourse on that tape, you won't find it so don't get your hopes up. It's two very young men almost a decade ago, ten years almost ago that the pause button was accidentally not pushed."

The worst part of that incident: the tape was released three days after his marriage.
Stapp is making a return to music, this time solo, with the album 'The Great Divide'  and a tour with INXS which kicked off last night.

16. I agree with most everyone else. I see him offering explanations, not offering excuses. He IS human, and I truly believe that he is trying to rebuild his career. It really is not our place to judge him. Obviously, I am a huge Scott Stapp fan. He could sing the phone book and I would listen! He has an amazing voice! I absolutely LOVED him with Creed and was very impressed with the solo album. I have not yet had the opportunity to see him perform solo, and hope that I get to do so soon! I wish him the best with his solo music, his marriage, his son, and anything else he choses to do.

17. I loved Creed music for many years, but a personal musician friend had spoken about Scott and how awkward it was to be around him back in the Creed days. So, when I decided to go see INXS in Las Vegas on June 23, I was not so thrilled to be seeing Scott (based on what my friend had said). Much to my amazement, Scott Stapp and his bandmates cleared up any ounce of not being thrilled to hear and see their set. I would highly recommend buying Scott's "Great Divide" and seeing him at a concert. My friend and I even saw him outside a venue and he was nice to everyone (so was his wife - to a fan who ran up to Scott & wife). To say the very least, we all screw up. It takes a strong man to admit in front of several thousand people his mistakes and misfortunes. I saw three shows and he apologized to everyone at those shows. I really believe God is working on and has already worked on Scott.

18. This is just getting plain old. It's ok to overlook the average screwup guy but Scott Stapp is ok to spotlight and showcase his every messup. This is the reason pop culture must freakin die. I'm not a fan of his problems but his music I can bear. It's not like any of you finger pointers are doing anything to help his situation

19. I guess, as long as your white or if you have money, you can get away with anything... And if you're both you can get away with everything, always. Sucks for the rest of us and esp. the victims. .............................. Who ever you are Stapp dude, do me a favor and don't kill anyone anytime soon while your driving drunk .... or should I say, being human or whatever.

22. Scott Sapp is a human being, just like the rest of us. The difference is he has a gift to fill our lives with lyric and song that makes us smile, cry, party, be happy be sad, look into ourselves, think about our future and that of our children. Will the person who has never had sex, thought about sex or wanted sex please move to the front of the line and tell us the story. I hope it is a great Puritan tale........
Sing on Scott and bring music to my life......the rest is your personal business.

23. hahahaha! Oh puh-lease. I read this comment about: "what mistakes did YOU make 10 years ago."

Well first off darling, I was six years old and my big mistake was running in the house and slipping on wet floor. OH MAN!

And Everybody makes mistakes, but lets face it, not EVERYBODY makes "sex" tapes and not EVERYBODY has a drinking problem. I know MANY people who can have fun and drink, without getting drunk. It's a concious decision. Good for him for getting help. But don't defend his actions, He can defend himself. He's a big boy now! :]]

24. I don't know what to believe with Scott Stapp now, but what I do know is that people give him a very hard time. He screwed up no doubt but I don't care, everyone screws up. I was a huge Creed fan and I still believe he is a very talented artist. I will listen to Scott Stapp as long as he makes music, and I advise former fans to do so as well. People can't say that they havent screwed up in the past, Stapp does not deny that he screwed up but he still gets criticized. Anyway I just wanted to post and say that people should look beyond the screw-ups and enjoy his good music.
