Star Jones No Longer Enjoying "The View"

Star JonesOn the heels of Meredith Vieira's departure for the "Today" show, Star Jones Reynolds announced on Tuesday that after nine years of trading barbs with Barbara Walters and Joy Behar she will not be returning to "The View."

On-air Jones said the reason for her departure was because "the show is moving in another direction for its tenth season."  But the daytime diva tells PEOPLE magazine a different story.  Jones says her contract was not renewed, adding "I feel like I was fired."

Reports had been surfacing of Jones' exit ever since it was announced Rosie O'Donnell, one of Jones' biggest rivals, would replace Vieira.

Although no announcement has been made about Jones' replacement, rumors had once circulated naming Oprah Winfrey's best gal pal Gayle King is a possibility. Gayle has denied that she will be joining the show. In a recent article New York Daily News columnist Lloyd Grove named radio talk show host Bo Griffin as another possible replacement.

Jones will stay with "The View" until mid-July before taking time off to plan her next move.

242. Good Riddance!!! Someone as shallow as Star Jones should not be on a show where intellectual discussion is a matter. Now she has time to go fur shopping!!!

243. I wonder why so many people had a problem with Star Jones. I feel part of the antipathy is racially based. When white women are successful, self-confident, and opinionated they are considered strong women. But, I a guess black women are not allowed to be so vocal. Why is her by pass surgery anyone's business? Why is all there so much speculation about her husband being gay? I think Barbara Walters and the other producers treated her wrongly. They had planned to fire her for a long time yet, constantly reassured her that she still had a job. Tabloids knew and she was out of the loop. I think she announced her leaving on the show to take control of the situation, so she would not be a victim anymore. Unlike most of them, Star has done post-graduate work. Lisa Ling did not even have a college degree. Black women have to work so much harder, to get so much less. I hope she succeeds at whatever she does. She will not be broke, her husband is a banker.

244. The View sucks in general! The women are too catty for me. I can never get to hear anything anybody is saying. As for Star, hey sister, I don't watch the show often, but you look terrible. I think that you are trying to be something that your truly are not: Please put back on the weight. As for the feud between you and Barbara, did you really think that she was going to let you steal the show anymore? It' s time to move on, sister!

245. Star, you will be missed. As soon as I heard Rosie was coming on, all of my friends said back to the Price is Right! We will miss your intelligent opinions. I feel sorry for Elizabeth ...... she doesn't have a chance. Mary Dallas 23@aol.com.

247. Thank goodness that someone else has noticed that the show has deteriorated since Elisabeth has come aboard. Star was at times annoying but so is everyone at some time or another. That show has gone to the dogs since Lisa Ling left to practice real journalism and change the way the world looks at real issues such as poverty and the plight of women. Time for the show to quit. Who wants to see a hypocrite like Rosie on the show? As if she is not a liar about her sexuality and love for Tommy ( who is rumoured to be gay as well)

248. I can't begin to tell you how utterly disgusted I am with Barbara Walters. I can't get over the fact that she knew all along Star was being 'let go' and acted like she didn't. I remember distinctly on the Emmy's red carpet walk when someone asked Star 'what is this we are hearin' about you leaving the View'. Star stated she knew nothing about it and turned to Barbara to ask her. Barbara repeated the same answer ...'I have not heard anything of the sort.' Granted, she was trying to spare Star's feelings or whatever, but Star and many other women trusted Barbara Walters to be the woman of integrity. She should have told Star when the thought of releasing her was first initiated. Don't we get enough lying from white male men. Has Barbara been in the worklpace so long that she now has to lie like them. My bubble has burst. Trust no one but God,

249. My response to the possibility of Gail King coming on board????? Please, why would she want to take a step down, 'way down' from being connected to the most outstanding female business woman (Oprah) to be a sidekick for someone like Barbara Walters who has now compromised her integrity by lying to Star. Who really, other than a reality show survivor who is trying to make her way in fame would want to be on a show that depicts women as all talking at once, trying to get a useless point across. You know what I hope? I hope that Star takes this whole episode as a 'lesson learned.' Many lessons learned. I hope she finds her way in her new found body of being thin. Remember she has been a full figured woman for so long, that she has now been reborn. She gets to try on normal size clothes...I know what she is going through. I went through the same terrible ordeal of losing weight and thinking the world was all about me. I hope she settles down in her God given intelligence and utilizes this humiliating event as a stepping stone to her own emmy award winning talk show. I hope the rating supercede the view. I hope she is able to have Barbara Walters and the loud mouth Joy Behar on her show as guests, and tell them all is forgiven. Sure would be a terrible thing if Rosie gets on the View, and then finds something wrong with it like her magazine. Remember that? Remember when she wanted the sue the creators of her own magazine? Well Barb, if you think Star betrayed you...Rosie is not one to spring any negative surprises on.

250. People seem afraid to say anything negitive about the almight Barbara Walters - I agree Star was over the top but - hey this is a daytime chick fest they are doing - not serious news -- what do they expect -- Sure Star has been wrong but so has Barbara - she is acting like a hurt head cheerleader -- Star WAS fired -- and the only person Star would hurt by saying that is Star but this being the media - she ain't gonna hurt -- As much as Star is a Diva - Rosie is an arrogant, oppionated, close-minded, bully -- so it's a half dozen of one and six of the other --
And the almight head cheerleader of the group forgets - the show DID fire her - but heaven forbid - we aire any unplesantires -- that makes me wonder how much I could trust what the BABA says!!!!-

251. "Now here is a woman of etigrity!"

... Thats the problem. If she instead were a woman of integrity she wouldn't have gotten herself into this mess.

252. Let's face it. Star Jones is a black woman who like so many blacks in the professional world have to straddle a fence of duality. This meaning carrying yourself one way in the white professional world, but being totally at ease and different when with those who look like you (other blacks). Blacks who learn to keep the two separate are usually more successful in a white dominated society. Usually white people are uncomfortable if, even if you're a wonderful professional, you integrate anything considered "your black side" into their world. Star was on a show with a predominantly white audience while maintaining her core blackness. Some white folks can not deal with this whether it be the viewers of The View, Barbara Walters or any of the other white media personalities that are speaking negatively about star. Racism/Culturalism is alive and well. Who's gonna come out and tell the truth. The viewers ceased to relate to Star Jones because she is black. And like white people usually do, they waited until they could find something legitimate (she lost weight, got married, whatever) to mask the real reason they wanted her gone...she is an extraordinary black woman who doesn't know, refuses to know her place.

253. I am sorry to see Star leave because she added a grace and class that is now lacking on the view. Now if Elizabeth would follow her maybe the show would be better but Rosie is a loud mouth who always flaunts her lifestyle. I hope I do not sound as bitter as some of these women commenting because I am a positive, happy and healthy female. I bet most of these women are overweight, hungry and lonely, which would make them so bitter.

254. I wish Meredith and Star nothing but the best. When Lisa Ling was with the group, the show was at its pinnacle. Now that the best three have left, I feel that the show will taking a nose-dive, especially with Rosie being thrown in. In my opinion, besides Barbara, those that are left are not the brightest or most knowledgable and entertaining. It was good - but I am sure the end is near. Good luck ladies, may the opinions not get out of hand!
