Star Jones No Longer Enjoying "The View"

Star JonesOn the heels of Meredith Vieira's departure for the "Today" show, Star Jones Reynolds announced on Tuesday that after nine years of trading barbs with Barbara Walters and Joy Behar she will not be returning to "The View."

On-air Jones said the reason for her departure was because "the show is moving in another direction for its tenth season."  But the daytime diva tells PEOPLE magazine a different story.  Jones says her contract was not renewed, adding "I feel like I was fired."

Reports had been surfacing of Jones' exit ever since it was announced Rosie O'Donnell, one of Jones' biggest rivals, would replace Vieira.

Although no announcement has been made about Jones' replacement, rumors had once circulated naming Oprah Winfrey's best gal pal Gayle King is a possibility. Gayle has denied that she will be joining the show. In a recent article New York Daily News columnist Lloyd Grove named radio talk show host Bo Griffin as another possible replacement.

Jones will stay with "The View" until mid-July before taking time off to plan her next move.

16. Boy what a lot of bitter women on this site. Star was just as diverse in her opinions as everyone else was. I really would like to know the demographics/backgrounds of all these women who are spewing this venom against her. I'm sure 95% of them will either be unhappily married, bitterly single, wishing they were thinner or stuck in a job that is going nowhere. It's time to get off that bandwagon and strive to make your life all that it can be. Women are the crown jewels of creation. Embrace that and stop tearing other women down. years .

17. Star has not been the same since she lost her weight and the rumors about her leaving have been swirling for a long time. Her departure from The View has been a long time coming. However, Rosie O'Donnell is not the answer to replacing Meredith Viera. Meredith carried the show with style which Rosie doesn't have. And to bring Gayle King into the show would be Star all over again. Why not consider a male co-host?

18. Poor Star, not! Big deal, the woman is an educated lawyer I'm sure she'll be able to find another gig to support her hubby. If you haven't guessed I am not a Star Jones fan because she is just a little too full of herself. Hope Al doesn't leave her now that her big fat paycheck is no more. Chow! Chow! Although I must say I like her much better than that loud mouth, bully O’Donnell that is replacing her.

20. I'm sorry to see her go honestly, and if they think that Star was bad, wait until Rosie, who is used to having her won show and has the biggest mouth of all, replaces Meredith. Jeez! I love Rosie too but she is mighty domineering. I don't think the show will last much longer.

21. Gayle will not be her replacement. She has said so many times. Oprah cannot stand Barbara Walters for stealing Ayana VanZaNT yrs ago. and Gayle id of course loyal to Oprah.

When is that Republican-Christan Elizabitch leaving?

I could never work under those circumstances, Star has held her self together well.

23. Though I may not agree with every point Star makes, she added character to the show, a little spice. Who wants to watch 4 bland white women? The show needs some controversy, and the only reason most of you are glad to see her go is becasue she black. Well, I'm glad she's moving on - she doesn't need them, she'll be successful regardless.

24. Now Rosie has nobody to run her mouth to. I can't stand Rosie. She is such a degrace for all women.

25. Good for Star! The only other one that I liked has already left. Joy gets on my nerves always cracking corny jokes, and Elizabeth just makes me sick everytime she opens her mouth. It's hard trying to sound intelligent amongst women who really are. Star was smart and she never dumbed down for any of them. I am sure that Star will be successful wherever she goes and as long as she's on TV, I will watch her.

26. Thank goodness they fired her, it is about time. She was too opinionated and wanted everything for free, as if she were entitled to it. I am tired of hearing about her Gay husband and her non-relevant life. No one on TV will want her, I hope she kept her attorney licence.

27. Good for you, Star! The View is spiraling downward! Who's going to watch it anyway, now that Meridith is gone and ugh, Rosie is joining. If you like trash talk, well, then ok, go for it.

28. Can't say that I am saddened by the news as I am not a Star fan. If they would now get rid of ELIZABETH THE IDIOT... the show might stand a chance. I cannot believe that woman still has a job. Hell, I still can't believe she GOT the job!

29. I stopped watching the view shortly after Meredith stated she is leaving. The tense show was horrible to watch. I do feel Star was pushed out by bringing O'Donnell in. I didn't always agree with Star's preaching but she did get the short end of the stick. I fell Walters wants Emmy's and is recruiting Rosie just for that. Well when Meredith left I left.. And it looks like it will stay that way.

30. Kudos to Barbara Walters for bringing Rosie O'Donnell to the View and for letting Star "I really DO think i am THE star" Jones go her own way. I used to be a BIG fan of the View (especially of Meredith and Barbara and Joy) but Star has gotten worse and worse over the years, and Elisabeth has annoyed me from the start. Bring on Rosie, Joy, Barbara and a couple of new, exciting, fun, SMART replacements for Star AND Elisabeth!
