Star Jones No Longer Enjoying "The View"

Star JonesOn the heels of Meredith Vieira's departure for the "Today" show, Star Jones Reynolds announced on Tuesday that after nine years of trading barbs with Barbara Walters and Joy Behar she will not be returning to "The View."

On-air Jones said the reason for her departure was because "the show is moving in another direction for its tenth season."  But the daytime diva tells PEOPLE magazine a different story.  Jones says her contract was not renewed, adding "I feel like I was fired."

Reports had been surfacing of Jones' exit ever since it was announced Rosie O'Donnell, one of Jones' biggest rivals, would replace Vieira.

Although no announcement has been made about Jones' replacement, rumors had once circulated naming Oprah Winfrey's best gal pal Gayle King is a possibility. Gayle has denied that she will be joining the show. In a recent article New York Daily News columnist Lloyd Grove named radio talk show host Bo Griffin as another possible replacement.

Jones will stay with "The View" until mid-July before taking time off to plan her next move.

76. I think Star is being attacked a bit hard. Yes she did change as she lost her weight. Wouldn't most anyone's personality and character change when making such a large lifestyle change, including marriage. I rarely watched the View as I could not stand listening to 4 or 5 women gabbing at the same time, and didn't know what any of them were saying. It was like being in a daycare setting.I really like Meredith and her happy persona, but there was also quite a change in her when she started Millionaire.

77. I didn't like Star, but I believe Barbara W. allowed her to hang herself. The whole fiasco with the freebies for her wedding could have been avoided, by telling Star off air not to do it. They have preshow meetings on what will be discussed on air.

Yes she was overly annoying, but so were the rest of the ladies. She thought her shit didn't stink, but again as a "supervisor" Barbara could have up some clamps on her to some extent.

The person that really needs to go is Elizabeth, I am in her demographic, and she is giving us a bad name. How can one person be so dense. Its like she has these opinions, but nothing solid to back up her stance. I say give The View a clean slate and FIRE Elizabeth.

79. This is the worst show on daytime television! They make all women look like cackling idiots. It is not an entertaining show in anyway and now it appears it will just be a glorified soapbox for Rosie.
Please cancel this show ASAP!!!

81. This is so sad, as like Star or not, the mix was perfect. Five women with different walks of life and totally different views, made the show. Elizabeth, so young, Barbara, so celebrated and intelligent, Joy, so funny and ethnic, Meredith, so grounded and Star, amidst life changes, showing dreams coming true. It was so perfect and I struggled to watch this show working nights for years and now will have to say GOODBYE!!! I have already seen the failed Rosie O'Donnell and have no interest in listening to her crass, bitter, homo views.
And believe me, I have no problem with homosexuality. I am not gay but love watching the L Word and feel homosexuality is a choice not to be judged by me. It's the person not the sexual preference or race.
So Goodbye to the View, I hope to see the other "Ladies" on programs I will watch. It's too bad a network doesn't know when they have something that works. I will truly miss my mornings with the LADIES !!!

84. The end of The View is at hand. The inevitable clash between Star and and Rosie won't happen and we can be thankful for that. Barbara seems to have abrogated her claim to "class" and will suffer for it. Goodbye View, now I can find another outlet for my "feminine side"

85. Great Move Star--get out now, before Rosie comes on and ruins the show and takes everyone left with her. You made the right decision. Hope to see you in bigger things in the future.

Vanity has taken over.

90. I think everyone knew this was coming. I don't understand why Babs and Joy acted so surprised if the show chose not to renew her contract. The show is now doomed. Elisabeth should make a run for it NOW! The View will be nothing but Joy and Rosie talking about gay marriages and other liberal topics. I really feel sorry for Elisabeth now; she will never get a word in!
