Nobody Puts Barbara In a Corner

Barbara Walters & Star JonesStar Jones has left "The View" – permanently, according to her now-former co-host and boss, Barbara Walters. The show aired this morning with just Walters, Joy Behar, and Elisabeth Hasselbeck taking their customary seats at the now oddly empty round table, and Jones' name and picture has been removed from the opening credits.

After the ladies took their seats, Walters began the show, dryly, "And then there were three."

Summoning as much patrician chill as she could, Barbara gave as good as she got: She told the audience that Star wouldn't be coming back, and that though she had purposely given her a few months to find a new gig and had given her the chance to "leave with dignity," her co-host had "made another choice" by talking to People magazine and making "other announcements" in the media yesterday.

Walters also said that she and the producers had decided not to renew Star's contract several months ago (which, she says, Star knew) though she didn't go into the reasons why.

Jones, perhaps to try to take the offensive, appeared earlier this morning before "The View" on Ryan Seacrest's KIIS-FM radio show and said that she wanted to leave when they told her contract wasn't going to be renewed two months ago and that, until yesterday, Joy and Elisabeth didn't even know she had gotten the boot.

Jones told Seacrest that "if anyone should feel betrayed, it should be me," referring to comments Walters made yesterday that she had felt "betrayed" by Star's jumping the gun.  And she complained that she found out about how Rosie O'Donnell – who Star said had been "nasty and insulting and vicious" about her weight loss – was brought onto the show at the Emmy Awards, when Barbara announced it.

Star also acknowledged that she had made some missteps in commercializing her wedding planning to the hilt, saying "I want to take full responsibility for the audience thinking, 'Star abandoned us.'"

46. I am glad to see Star go. She interrupts but has nothing to offer. Her legalese was rarely necessary and her self-promotion surpassed her usefullness in year three. I am glad she is in a happy *cough*fake*cough* marriage and thinks she looks better, although she was a champion to the larger women when she was huge and justifying it all the time. I hope she does well and we hear no more from her. As for Rosie, time will tell. I hope they get Gail King with them and let Elisabeth go. Add some Kathy Griffin and you got yourself a show! That would be ironic since Star had her booted from E! I may actually start watching again. Always loved Joy and miss Merideth, but hope it gets new life and I am glad they "trimmed the fat" and are going with some new blood.

48. HAVE YOU EVER NOTICED "ABC , CBS , AND NBC " HAS CHANGED EVERYTHING , EVERYONE IS MOVING TO OTHER CHANNELS .
YOU JUST WONDER IF ALL THE "NATIONAL " NEWS ARE ALL CHANGING TO ANOTHER FORMATT. CNN , FOX DOESN'T SEEM LIKE THEY'RE DOING ANY CHANGING. CHANGE DOESN'T MEAN ITS GOING TO HELP THE RATINGS.
IM VERY TIRED OF REALITY SHOWS , EVERYTHING SUCK AS FAR AS TV , INCLUDING CABLE , NOTHING IS ON . ALL REPEATS .

MAYBE THE BEST THING EVERYONE SHOULD DO IS SPEND "QUALITY TIME" WITH YOUR FAMILY OUTSIDE . LIFE IS TO SHORT , TO SIT IN THE HOUSE AND WASTE TIME WATCHING THE NEWS OR TV SHOWS .

49. I have never been a fan of Star .... she is too over the top for me. However this whole thing could have been handled with more dignity and respect from both parties. Being told you are no longer wanted is indeed hurtful and difficult but for Star to make an on the air announcement and then grant an interview with a magazine without letting her bosses know beforehand was a low blow. Of course they are going to ask her leave immediately. So now we have Barbara Walters on air defending her position. This all makes for a very public mess. As the viewing public don't we deserve better??

51. Star added nothing to the show, in fact, for being a lawyer she came across somewhat dumb and uneducated at times. I read a while back that they were approaching Oprah's gal pal Gayle King to come on board, I hope they do, I think Gayle will give the show some of the class and intelligence Star took away.

52. Barbara should do research on her "popularity" on the show...I will usually turn it off if she is one of the cohost......I thought Star was very gracious when she informed us that she was leaving...and Barbara was her usual "fake" self...pretending to care...but she don't.......Elisabeth is soooo republican....they need to tone her "political" views down a bit.......we all have our own personal view but she goes BALISTIC everytime someone critizes bush and his admin....face it Elizabeth...this country is in terrible shape since he took office...you are in major denial...maybe thats why you get sooo defensive!!.....I hate to see Star depart...and this is the beginning of the end for the "The View".....

53. This is the same thing that Barbara did to poor Debbie . SHe told the same lies about her leaving. Barbara just wants to look good, but she stabs people in the back. And what was all that phonyness on Stars last day?

54. Barbara is just mad because she looks bad now. All Star did was tell the truth. Kudus to Star for telling the viewers on the day she wanted to.I don't think any of them have been happy for a while-I wondered why Meredith would leave a cushy job to start getting up so early(Always seemed like a step back for her). Now I get the feeling that Meredith was not happy with Barbara and wanted to get out of there. I only watched until the first commercial this morning-The View will never be the same and I will no longer be watching.

ps. Kudos also go out to Regis and Kelly for backing up Star

55. A Star is a Star and no amount of put down can change that "Star", by Barbara's own words she said they told Star to deal with it how she choose and she made her choice. Barabra Walters should live with that and stop the back biting Star. She should also live with Rose D who is the trash and we will see the out come.

56. Maybe one day soon, ABC will tell Babs that the public thinks she is too old and too b!@#$%! to be on TV and can her just as unceremoniously.

Star was the brains. Meredith was the heart. Now the show is left with an old, insincere bag, two comedians and a ditz. Not much of a show.

Funny enough, I used to love Rosie's show. I think she is trading down from whatever she was doing, even if that was just being a Mom. She of all people should relate after the fiasco with the demise of her own show.

Run Star, Run! The show is going down the tubes.

57. Nowthat Star Jones is gone...(whoppee!), the American viewers will have Rosie join the THE VIEW ROUNDTABLE. For what it is worth, Rosie has a mouth of her own, and it would be interesting to see how the other VIEW co-anthors take to Rosie. Which gal will fall out with Rosie?

58. How do you defend someone as crass, selfish, egotistical and "BETTER THAN YOU", as Star Jones? Maybe Walters screwed up by making this mess public but the FACT is, Star Jones was not well liked by and did not connect well with viewers. Period. She was let go and she belongs GONE. She's not a genuine person by any stretch of the imagination and did quite alot to bring that show down. Good riddance to a truely bad apple.

59. I stopped watching The View when they started letting Elizabeth talk on her own. That show had class until the producers buckled and hired a dumb blonde. To increase the male viewship perhaps? Whatever, they lost me and I'd put money on it, I wasn't alone. Now I wish I had suffered through her innane comments to see what all the hullabaloo is about. Wow! Star does look different. Different and very very strange. She was not my favorite, but I wish her all the best. I just wish they'd now hire someone that Elizabeth can't stand.
