Nobody Puts Barbara In a Corner

Barbara Walters & Star JonesStar Jones has left "The View" – permanently, according to her now-former co-host and boss, Barbara Walters. The show aired this morning with just Walters, Joy Behar, and Elisabeth Hasselbeck taking their customary seats at the now oddly empty round table, and Jones' name and picture has been removed from the opening credits.

After the ladies took their seats, Walters began the show, dryly, "And then there were three."

Summoning as much patrician chill as she could, Barbara gave as good as she got: She told the audience that Star wouldn't be coming back, and that though she had purposely given her a few months to find a new gig and had given her the chance to "leave with dignity," her co-host had "made another choice" by talking to People magazine and making "other announcements" in the media yesterday.

Walters also said that she and the producers had decided not to renew Star's contract several months ago (which, she says, Star knew) though she didn't go into the reasons why.

Jones, perhaps to try to take the offensive, appeared earlier this morning before "The View" on Ryan Seacrest's KIIS-FM radio show and said that she wanted to leave when they told her contract wasn't going to be renewed two months ago and that, until yesterday, Joy and Elisabeth didn't even know she had gotten the boot.

Jones told Seacrest that "if anyone should feel betrayed, it should be me," referring to comments Walters made yesterday that she had felt "betrayed" by Star's jumping the gun.  And she complained that she found out about how Rosie O'Donnell – who Star said had been "nasty and insulting and vicious" about her weight loss – was brought onto the show at the Emmy Awards, when Barbara announced it.

Star also acknowledged that she had made some missteps in commercializing her wedding planning to the hilt, saying "I want to take full responsibility for the audience thinking, 'Star abandoned us.'"

91. I am so glad to see Star leaving. Now there is room at the table for more people since she and her KING size ego have left. I have always thought that someone should have put a muzzle on her about how smart she was to get everything for free for her wedding. Enough about the stupid wedding. We were all sick to death of it. See ya. and good luck with that gastric bypass surgery recovery.

92. Barbara Walters is a liar. She publicly announced over the last few weeks/months that Star will be welcome on the View as long as she wants to be there. She knew all along that she was already let go. No class. And Rosie O'Donnell? Gawd, loudmouth, obnoxious. I will never watch the show again. She is ONLY jealous of Star for losing weight because she's a fat pig herself.

93. Love Star - glad she left the sinking ship known as The View. Advice to Elisabeth, whom I also love, get out while you can. The View will no longer be the respected show that it once was.

94. I used to like Star until she started planning her weddimg/
I stopped watching most of the time after that. Luckily I missed her wedding and all the flap that went with it.
Since I've been watching again I've been disenchanted
with Star and Elisabeth who can see no gray and is so
opinionated.
Happily Rosie will soon be there and I'm sure she will help Elisabeth over her know-it-all attitude.

95. As much as I dislike Star, I dislike Rosie even more. At least Star has been honest from the beginning, and she is intelligent. I believe with the horrible decision Barabara made to add Rosie, the show won't last two years.

97.
The View has lost the two most intelligent partners. Star is intelligent, educated and has more class than any of the others. It is nobody's business that she spent a fortune on her wedding. As for her weight loss, that is personal and she does not have an obligation to talk about it. Big, slob, sloppy big mouth Rosie is nothing but trouble. She dresses sloppy, dirty mouth. Which is she Mommy or Daddy. What positive comments could she contribute, saying she is in love with Kelly?

98. Although I was suprised to see Star gone I am glad she is no longer on the show. I understand that for most weight loss is a personal journey but when you are talking about it on national TV you must tell the truth. She led people to think that it was all in her eating habits and exercise program when that is not the truth. Also, when it came to the freebies and the wedding enough already. Star appeared to be very selfcentered. She no longer came off as a caring person. I watch the view a few times a week and I wish the woman all the luck in the world. I have no doubt that Star will do well in her next adventure and I am sure that the view will be on for many years to come.

99. Im glad Rosie is coming on the view. When she had her own show, I watched it every day. I was really sorry too see her show go off. I think she will be a good thing for the view. As far as Barbara and Star neither one of them handeled the situation very well. I cant wait until Sept. when Rosie joins the show.

100. I was never crazy about Star anyway but bringing in Rosie is only gonna sink that ship! She's too controversial and she's going to take over. Babs loves Rosie and her attempt at adding people from different "view" points to the show will be overcome and weighted down (excuse the pun), by Rosie and her alternative lifestyle. It will become the "Rosie and her morally bankrupt brood show". Elizabeth will not last long because she is not assertive enough!. They need a conservative firebrand like Ann Coulter to join in around the table! What a shoot out that would be. I cannot imagine how quickly she'd get all of those over aged douchebags told! ABC would never have the guts to do that though. So, Say good bye to LAST season of this hideous show! By the way, who cares HOW Star lost her weight? If she is healthier now, God Bless her. We would all undergo some changes if we could afford it. Maybe this experience will make her more humble.

101. Even though Star Jones could get a bit obnoxious, she still didn't deserve to be humiliated the way she was by Barbra Walters. She brought a lot of legal insight and flair to the show. I wonder why no one there came to Star's defense, especially Barbra Walters, when Rosie O'Donnel was bad mouthing Star Jones in the press over her weight loss? What business is it to big-mouth-and-opinionated Rosie how Star lost the weight or how she chooses to live her life? Rosie was a closeted lesbian for years, and it was obvious she was gay, yet questioned her sexual inclinations, and no one held a knife over her head forcing her to confess what her true sexual preference was. The hypocrisy here is overwhelming by ABC & Queen Bee Barbra. They've mistreated Star Jones in the worst possible way. I hope the View gets cancelled now, I really do. The thought of that bully Rosie O'Donnel opening her big mouth about her life now will be too much to stomach. We needed Star as we need Elizabeth and Joy, etc. The View was about different points of views from very, very different types of women from diverse ethnic backgrounds. Star Jones will be missed. What a shame.

105. I have watched the show whenever I could for the past 9 years. They have discussed everything under the sun with no problem but Star refused to discuss how she lost all her weight. With all the people who have weight issues I think that it should have been discussed honestly. Oprah has discussed her ups and downs for years.
As for her being fired I just think Star got too big for the show. It is hard to put all those egos on one stage. Thousands of people get fired everyday and the only thing different is it was done on national TV.
I am sure she will end up with her own talk show.
