Spelling Mansion

Secretly On the Market

7/5/2006 2:52 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

TMZ has learned that Candy Spelling, Aaron's widow, has quietly put the Spellings' legendary mansion on the market for $150 million.

Sources in the real estate industry say Westside Estate Agency (WEA) has a pocket listing on the 56,000 square foot estate, meaning it is quietly being shopped among realtors and select buyers. The mansion, located in the exclusive Holmby Hills area of L.A., was completed in 1991 for around $47 million, which includes $10 million for the land.

One real estate source says Candy Spelling has let a lot of people on the staff go and that the buzz is that she is going to shut the house down so it can be shown by realtors. Aaron Spelling died on June 23.

I can only assume that those who want her to donate the property, or the proceeds from the sale, don't have much themselves. Get a life you pansy, whimpy liberal loosers. Get off the liberal, entitlement mentality, get off your duff, and try to make it on your own. THEN, when the whiners start trying to shake you down, you too can tell them the same thing. It's FUN. Personally, I think she should sell it for as much as possible, KEEP ALL OF THE MONEY, and move to the south of France.

Hurrah!! This is great news for all L.A. commuters!! Even those who are visiting this great news (if you come out of the airport you end up on the 405)

Let me explain. For years the 405 has needed expansion to make the world's largest parking lot into an actual highway. Why hasn't it been done before? One reason was Aarron Spellings abodmidable mansion. The City can't expand the road because parked ontop of the natural place to do so is the Spelling faux-french castle. This is what I've been told by a long time L.A. resident and why anyone would care about this particular event. If there is anyone out there who has contradictory or additional information, please post. I'd love to know.

Here is another perfect example of class envy..."give the money to charity". the unfortunate liberal view of charity is to give the homeless a new box or shopping cart instead of the education and oppotunity to join this great society. You can be a tree hugger or an anti-war advocate, or even get a job and start a business...then suddenly you don't want other people to have all of your hard earned possesions...I say good for Mrs. Spelling and if she wants to go off to Switzerland with her new boyfriend that's great too! If you did not earn part of her money then you should mind your own business. I hope Tim Robbins or Meathead from all in the family pays even more than the asking price. Then maybe they can tear it down and put up a wind farm or a crazy electric car plant!

Several posts have suggested that Candy Spelling give away much or all of the profits from the sale house. WHY? Her husband earned this money fair and square. The poor and homeless (and those who sympathize with them) need to quit thinking that anyone has the right to live off the back of another human being. Spelling had drive and creativity; and he and his family are the only ones entitled to a penny of that money. People must have liked his work or he never would have been so successful. The people who work in this country should not be supporting those who don't. I know this sounds harsh, however, NO social structure can exist with a few supporting the many because the community will eventually collaspes under its own weight.

Why do you think that people who have a lot more--or even a little more than you do, who have earned it honestly, are accountable to you? Do each of us automatically give money we don't need to someone who needs it? Do you bother to give a measley dollar to the beggar on the street corner? (That's a lot to him/her!) When you buy beer or expensive wine or jewelry or a new car, do you say to yourself, "Hey, I'm not going to buy this, I'm going to give it to the homeless."? How hypocritical can you be? If it's your idea to get something nicer, you justify it; but if someone who made an honest brain-related living, you judge him! and make him answer to you. You are free, you live in a capitaoistic society; get over it!

Capitalism, churchill said..."The worst system in the world except for everything else". I don't pretend to know either Mrs. Spelling or her motives , but selling for whatever traffic will bear seems more than reasonable. May she have success and move on with her life. Why would anyone wish it otherwise?

Um...its her house. She can do whatever she wants with it including selling for whatever price the market will bear. If $150 mil is too high, then it won't sell. I'm no fan of these Hollywood types but this is business. She & her former husband have been making the mortgage payments & property taxes on this place since it was built. Its now time to recoup that investment. Its called making a profit which is NOT against the law. But for those people here who are clearly bothered by it, you can take some comfort in the fact that she'll probably pay some hefty capital gains taxes on her profit. BTW the price on a home like this is usually set by a realtor based on location, features, market appraisal etc. Sounds like there's a lot of folks here who have never bought or sold a home. Grow up - your idiocy is showing....

Hey, it's ok to give away some money and it's ok if one prefers not to give. Personal preference is a beautiful thing. Maybe not politically correct, but pretty much why this country is successful to the extent that some can carp and whine about it.

In regards to William Brown's comment: that's because Gates already gives most of his money to the poor and needy. He has one of the largest charities ever and donates more money than probably anyone. Also, he has already announced that when he does pass away, his kids are only receiving about 0.10% of his estate which is still over 10 million, but the rest will ALL go to charity.

Wow...some people on here are really stupid.

She can sell the house if she wants. Its hers! I'm sure it was a bit to big for two to begin with, let alone one person. And the amount she's asking doesn't make her greedy. Its the amount its worth. Should she sell it for $140,000 instead when it cost tens of millions to build? No, that would make her stupid.

And just because someone has millions, it does not mean they are morally required to give to charity. Do you people give to charity? And I don't want to hear any BS about not making a lot, if everyone gave 10% the world would be a better place. But no one is required. So don't throw stones, it's not the responsibility of the millionaires of the world, especially those that worked hard, to feed and cloth everyone.

Good for her, you go Candy!

I hope that she gets every dime that she wants out of this house. He made the $$, he left it to his wife, she should be able to use it however she wants.

As far as the homeless, etc... let them take a bath, get off the drugs and alcohol, get a job and they won't be homeless anymore. There are more than enough programs for the willing, screw the unwilling.
