'Survivor' Winner Arrested

Brian Heidik ATLANTA (AP) -- A winner of the popular reality show "Survivor" was arrested Wednesday after allegedly shooting a puppy with an arrow. Brian Heidik, 38, was released on bond after being charged with battery and cruelty to animals.

During the bond hearing in Douglas County Magistrate Court, Heidik told a judge he thought the dog was a coyote that has been harassing his pets, WSB-TV reported on its Web site.

Douglas County Chief Deputy Stan Copeland said it was a puppy. "At about 3 a.m., his wife called to report that he was outside and that he had shot a puppy that was on his property with an arrow and planned to shoot another one," Copeland said.

When sheriff's deputies arrived, Heidik -- who won "Survivor:Thailand" in 2002 -- fled in his car but was quickly caught and taken back to the home where the incident occurred.

Heidik's wife, Charmaine, and 5-year-old son were present at the home at the time of the incident, Copeland said.

Copeland said there was evidence in the home to support a charge of battery for family violence. Because the case is pending, he could not elaborate on the nature of the evidence.

Both the wounded puppy and the second puppy were turned over to animal control officials to determine who they belonged to.

Heidik did not immediately respond to a a message from The Associated Press left on an answering machine at one of two phones listed in his name in Douglasville, which is 21 miles west of Atlanta. There was no answer Wednesday afternoon at the second
number.

Heidik is a former North Carolina State football player,used-car salesman and part-time actor.

46. I wonder if this will boost interest of some of Heidik's best works, "Passion Cove," "The Pleasure Zone," and "Virgins of Sherwood Forest." Yeah, he was an "actor" all right.

47. Does this poor excuse for a human have an e-mail address? I'd like to send him my thoughts on his cruelty as I'm sure others would. Survivor is a joke, there was also an incident where a contestant stabbed a baby pig to death then smeared the blood all over his face. Thought he was a warrior, a real big man for that. I'll never watch the show. Where does the show find these sadistic creeps?

48. Hey Jojo (comment #2),
Hollywood? Try Atlanta. We get enough unfair characterizations here.

49. What a piece of sh*t he is. How about an eye for an eye? Only very weak, very small, very disgusting, vile people hurt animals. I hope he gets his someday. So much for the big winner, what a loser.

51. I think this "Survivor" creep is going to end up a serial murderer or worse.... What on earth is more precious and innocent than a puppy? How was this guy raised? He doesn't seem to have a conscience, and that is very scary. I've heard of people doing a lot of bad things, but as far as I am concerned this one takes first place. Somebody better get this sick man some help, he has a serious mental problem.

52. i prolly woulda shot the dog too. If coyotes were messin with my animals and I suspected this dog to be one, I definately would have went after it. Hopefully who ever's dog it was will learn to keep it either inside or on a leash.

As for the reason of running- maybe after he found out his mistake he felt bad for doing it and just panicked. It happens.

The whole wife abuser thing....I have no comment on that. you can't walk into someone's house and come to conclusion that there is abuse unless you walk in while it is happening.

If this all pans out to be true, I agree he should be punished. If not, well, I bet you all are gunna feel dumb about then. I can see it happenin both ways but going at eachothers throats about ti is ridiculous.

53. Coyote's in Atlanta, Georgia? Since when? Are their even coyote's east of the Mississippi river? Guy is a jerk. Maybe someone should put an arrow in him and see if he likes it.

54. It's quite obvious he knew what he was shooting at and planned to shoot again. People like that completely disgust me and should be locked away for life. You must be a twisted a**person to attack a helpless baby animal. I hope that the animals he has are taken away and put up for adoption to a loving home. As for you Nick, I hope your a** ROTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

57. This is a perfect example of money not buying class or compassion. I'm ashamed he lives in my home state of Georgia.
