Lets Get This Party Started
Let's Get This Party Started: Top Stories for 07/10/06

As Star Jones makes her first hosting appearance on television tonight since being fired from "The View" -- on HGTV's "House Hunters" -- we learn the origins of her and Rosie O'Donnell's descent into full nuclear conflict.

It was all peaches 'n' cream between the talk-show divas until Rosie was a guest on "The View" in May 2004.

On the May 12, 2004 episode of "The View," as recounted this morning in Lloyd Grove's Lowdown column, Rosie started by complimenting Star on her weight loss, saying, "You look fabulous! It's like 'Twinkle Twinkle Shrinking Star.'" But the discourse got a little more contentious from there, with Rosie suggesting that women "stand up and scream" to protest Martha Stewart's conviction, and Star objecting.

Rosie then suggested that African-Americans have so few role models that they rally around men like O.J. Simpson and basketball players Jayson Williams, which ignited Star's rage. On the following day's show, Jones criticized Rosie's view, which angered Rosie, and Jones never apologized, despite the urgings of Barbara Walters.

Meanwhile, even if her most recent ex-boss might not concur, Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes tells the Daily News that Jones "was an exceptionally talented young prosecutor when she worked for me."

Suri Cruise's Silent Birth Leads to Quiet Life

Just where exactly is Suri Cruise? No one knows for sure, though TMZ has proof at least that someone filed a birth certificate for someone by that name.

However, a cult specialist tells MSNBC's Jeanette Walls that Suri's strange absence from public view may have something to do with what Scientologists called "removing engrams" though a process called "auditing." Rick Ross of Cultnews.com says that engrams are "negative experiences coupled with noise," and that shielding the baby from the paparazzi would reduce the onset of such engrams.

Ross adds that Cruise, according to reports from his promotional tour for "Mission: Impossible III," is getting increasingly wrapped up in the Scientology dogma, and that he would have locks checked and take longer routes to places while on tour to prevent, presumably, the creation of engrams.

Bono Gets Strife From Far Left for Video Game

U2 frontman and political crusader Bono is getting flack from left-wingers who say that he's investing in a video game that's unfairly critical of Venezuelan tyrant Hugo Chavez.

In "Mercenary 2: World in Flames," a game created by Pandemic Studios, in which Bono's private equity firm has invested, Venezuela is portrayed, according to Page Six, as "a banana republic led by a power-hungry tyrant." Players take on the role of a mercenary sent to the South American land to combat a dictator that's seized control of the country.

Now, left-wing commentators are blasting Bono, saying that he "glorifies stale, old mercenary approaches" by investing in Pandemic, and that he "should use his financial interest in the company to kill it, or better, he should pull out entirely as an investor, and condemn such imperialist garbage." Bono had no comment.

Brit Invasion Coming To US "Office"

What we'd really like to see is a steel-cage softball (or would that be cricket?) match between Dunder Mifflin and Wernham Hogg: The New York Post reports that stars of the original BBC incarnation of the seminal workplace comedy "The Office" will be making appearances on the NBC series of the same name.

Though details about plot and character are scarce, US "Office" co-creator Ben Silverman tells fans to "expect some cameos from the UK paper company," though for the time being, David Brent (played by Ricky Gervais in the Brit version) will not be one of those cameos. However, Gervais is writing a separate episode of the US version of the show. "We're going to save the big man for now," says Silverman.

Piven Doesn't Dig Cigs

Whatever else he may enjoy, Jeremy Piven doesn't sanction cigarette smoking, as some twentysomethings on the beach in Malibu discovered last weekend. Page Six says that Piven was walking along the beach the day after attending Lindsay Lohan's 20th birthday party nearby when he spotted some youngsters smoking, whereupon the 41-year-old "Entourage" star "launched into a tirade about how smoking ages you," and "took off his sunglasses so they could inspect his skin."

"Miami Vice" Approaching "Heaven's Gate"

The bad buzz surrounding Michael Mann's "Miami Vice" continues to circulate, with a report today from Lloyd Grove that Mann's "process" in trying to get the project finished (or, perhaps salvaged) is driving the studio and all around him mad. The film, starring Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell, is reportedly going well over its $120 million budget.

Universal chairman Marc Shmuger responds to the reports, saying that it's "definitely" opening on time and that Mann's process is "exhausting, it is intense, and some people are not up to the challenge. Either they keep up with him or they fall by the wayside. It creates some raw feelings along the way."

The remake of the 80s TV show, which Mann created, is scheduled to open July 28.

421. Dear Dragon Lady (and Eeryone else)
This is the Last time that I will ever post anything on TMZ, so I better make this good. I see now it doesn't matter what I write because nothing I say will change anyone's mind. But the "angry black" comment, as well as the "wish you were white" comment are etimilogically inflamatory. There has been an unfortunate stereotype running rampant throughout this country: that black people are inherently angry, violent and given to bouts of rage, therefore leaving black people's opinion's in the position of being dismissed solely based on the fact that we are irrational. Finally, although I didn't at all think so before, I am more than firmly convinced now, just by this post, that racism is alive and well in this country. No, not every white person is racist, of course not, and not all black people live without displaying the ugliness that is bigotry. However, it doesn't matter how much we try to cover this up, America is inherintly and forever the breeding ground for racist and mis-informed thought. I began this conversation just to see what would happen when I replied to an inflamatory comment (#2) with an equally inflamatory one (number 7). The result: this is one ugly country with a seathing underbelly of hatred, and I am ashamed.

422. GROW UP ROSIE

Posted at 12:08AM on Jul 11th 2006 by carol vice

423. I have watched the view for the whole 9 years and there have been things said and done by Star that people could be upset about. I think that the viewers just wanted the truth about her weight issue. It was odd that every other aspect in Star's life we all heard about. Star had a big part in making the View what it is today. She has great qualities that I think made that show great for the 9 years that she was on the View.
She has been very vocal about other celebrities that weren't honest about other things.....Me, I CANNOT wait until Rosie is on the View!! I love her and I miss not being able to see her show! I think that her fans will follow her even if she has to share her host duties. She is also not perfect and I am sure that she will upset people by the things that might happen when she is on the View...That is life. She will call it like she sees it and she never implied that she liked Tom Cruise in any other way except that she wanted have him mow her lawn without his shirt! She was just a huge fan! I have many woman that I think that are beautiful and I can appreciate their beauty that doesn't mean that I am going to leave my husband for one of these woman. I wish that Star goes on to have great success because bless her heart she deserves to be happy! Can't we all just get along? Rosie we are waiting for September so you can be in our living rooms again!

424. I've never visited this site before and out of boredom I decided to read a few of the passages. It truly saddens and angers me to see how racist everyone truly is. I am half black and half white so I side with neither race. I can say that for white people to say that black people should just get over slavery and leave it in the past is ridiculous. This is a part of their culture and heritage and should never be something that is just forgotten. It is and will always remain a part of who they are. I can also say that black people have to learn to not be so quick to turn everything into a race war. What Rosie and #136 said was way out of line because we as black people have so many role models that are absolutely brilliant we should feel proud. We are first and foremost God's children and we all stem from the same two people and that is Adam and Eve so please stop being so hateful to each other. We can all have our own opinions without being ugly to each other. I can't believe that we as intelligent people took an incident that has absolutely nothing to do with us or our lives and turned it into some kind of race war where we are attacking each other as if we were mortal enemies. We all really need to take a step back and take a look at ourselves in the mirror because it sounds like there are a lot of racist people in this group.

425. Here's the thing: 1. Barbara Walters, like it or not, is the sole creator of the show and she and the shows producers pick and choose who they want without consultaion. BW has earned the right - LIKE IT OR NOT, 2. Contrary to what some may think about SJR is that her ratings were just too low to allow her to stay. 3. Time will tell if Rosie is an asset or a liablity to an aging show.

There have been a few comments suggesting that BW is making an issue by perpetuating the drama. Well excuse me, but I've seen and read where SJR is the one posting methods on how to have her fans protest her firing to the producers. Ms. Walters is NOT the one making the issue - it's SJR making the issue because she can't come to grips with being fired. If SJR was getting the job done do you really believe BW would let her go - whether or not they got along? Come on now! Ms Walters is an old veteran at the business table and broadcast journalism. SJR ratings were too low and BW and producers made a decision.

It is unfortunate that SJR is choosing to humiliate herself day after day over something was basically finished weeks ago. BW moves on very quickly in these matters as one can tell by watching the VIEW. Perhaps SJR could take a page from BW's book and do the same in an effort to preserve whatever dignity she has left so that at some point she could become gainfully employed again.

428. http://www.nydailynews.com/front/story/433806p-365494c.html

The above link is for the entire conversation between Star and Rosie.

Star Jones Reynolds and Rosie O'Donnell say they used to be friends. But now I can reveal the precise moment when the just-fired and just-hired cohosts on "The View" became sworn enemies.
It was during Rosie's appearance on the May 12, 2004, show. Daily News contributor Jawn Murray dug up the smoking videotape.

The two combatants initially greeted each other warmly before trash-talking like WWE wrestlers. Rosie — who this year harshly mocked Star for less-than-candid explanations of her precipitous weight loss — started with flattery. "You look fabulous!" Rosie gushed. "It's like 'Twinkle Twinkle Shrinking Star.'"

But the chat quickly turned ugly when O'Donnell suggested that women "stand up and scream" to protest Martha Stewart's felony conviction, and former prosecutor Jones Reynolds vehemently objected.

Rosie: "Here's what I love. The black community said you cannot have O.J. Simpson, you cannot have Jayson …"

Star: "No, excuse me! … And if the black people had a vote, they did not tell me."

Rosie: "Honey! Honey, listen to what I'm saying. … The black community said you can't have the basketball player Jayson Williams, you can't have him. …"

Star: "There were two black people on the jury!"

Rosie: "Wait! Wait! Wait! I'm saying that as a culture, and I agree with it, black people have so few role models that they said, 'You know what? I don't care, you're not taking them!'"

Star: "What???! … When did the black vote have a meeting and vote?"

Rosie: "I didn't say you had a meeting, Star!"

The next day on the air, Star scorched O'Donnell: "Although the mainstream media may not collectively report on black role models, trust and believe there are plenty out there, and you don't need to rally behind O.J. Simpson. I mean, that was inappropriate." I hear that Rosie was upset, but Barbara Walters tried and failed to get Star to apologize.

O'Donnell and her flack were unreachable at press time. A spokesman for Star told Lowdown: "We made our last statement regarding this matter on June 29 on the 'Today' show. We have no further comment."

429. This is to comment # 104 by Nat, you seriously need to move on with your life and let go of that anger you have, you dont see the Jews parading about how much they were hurt in the holocaust, they tell their story with class, not with nastiness like you people.

and to comment # 88 by Johnathan, are you freaking kidding me? I am a white woman and I have NEVER in my life gotten any type of cosmetic injections or fake tans, if we are going to start to stereotype then I guess all black women are nasty mouthed, attitude filled whores that have like 10 kids with 9 different fathers and live on welfare checks, how do you like that stereotype???? I work for the government and the statistics clearly show that most of the people in jail are either black or hispanic, that most of the people on welfare are black women, but that doesnt mean that ALL of them are! so dont be so quick to say s**t you dont know anything about! Your ignorance is the reason why racism will never end!

430. What Rosie said was the truth. The most important positive black man
(Martin Luther King) is died. There is currently one positive black
role model for the African American community. Oprah she has the
Angel network and gives a lot of money and support. Other then that,
it's people like Kobe-Rapist, OJ-Murderer etc. Johnny Cochran is in
hell waiting for you OJ, lol.

Not one person I know likes Star
Jones. In fact most people seem to have a strong dislike for her.
Personally I never liked her. It has nothing at all to do with her
being black. She is a b*tch who thinks that her sh*t doesn't stink.
That she is better then everyone else. That is a total turn off. self
confidence is important. However unmitigated arrogance is another. She
is a b*tch bag plain and simple.

Star Jones is
1) Married
to a gay guy. Not just a gay guy but a flaming one (I have no problem
at all with gays) but I think it's funny that someone who acts so high
and mighty married a gay guy and is either in total denial or has some
form of agreement with him. Either way Star HELLO! We all know that he
is gay! It makes you look more PATHETIC!

Which leave me to my
next question........

2) What the HELL were you and AOL
thinking when you were making LOVE/RELATIONSHIP ADVICE videos!??? LOL
That was some funny sh*t!

3) Come on admit it you had gastric
bypass surgery! There is no shame in it Star but why not just come
out and be honest about it? Tell people the truth. You could have
been a role model for overweight people who need guidance and advice
about the surgery. Instead you chose to lie about it. You must think
that people are completely stupid not to know this. Rosie called you
on it and that's why you hate her!

4) They should have fired
your ass right then and there when you tried to mention names and get
free services/goods for your wedding! Better late then never I
guess.

And as for that RACISM comment that white people are
racists. BOO F**KING WHO! That's ALWAYS your first line of defense!
The first word utter! That's your crutch! You always CRY rascisim!
Get OVER come up with something new! Just because that woman who made
the comment about Star is white and makes what you deem as a negative
comment towards a AA person you say that it is racisim!! THAT DOES
NOT MAKE THEM A RASCIST IT MAKES THEM A REALIST who is stating their
OWN opinion!

For those of you who still have something to
say about it you need to look in the damn mirror then, because guess
what....... black people are just as much if not MORE racists then
white people!

431. OMG! This is the most outrageous message board I have ever read. You are all so brave with your comments that I feel empowered just reading them. You know it is said that there is strength in numbers - which I have always found to be true - and it is extrememly apparent here.

Prnces #433 and Mellywelly #432 ARE MY HEROES. You can be on my team anytime - or maybe I should say I am already on yours except maybe just a little more lower key. I only wish I had the chutspah to be as vociferous as you two - and anyone else who might share your opinions. You two say what some whites (myself included) are too afraid to say because we are from the generation of people who have been bullied by the black community for so long that we are afraid to say things like blacks are more racist than whites have ever been.

You two also say that blacks pull the race card when things don't go their way. I've always found that to be true as well. I am so proud that you young people are finally standing up for yourselves and those of us who have been beaten down by a race of black Americans who have caused nothing but grief and angst in the white community since the sixties.

My generation did nothing to cause a black uprising in America in the sixties and seventies - in fact we tried to help. My family came from Poland. We never owned a slave - black or otherwise. I am only second generation, my daughter third. She had to pay for college while black people her age got their college paid for because their of their skin color. How proud that must make black people feel.

And most - if not all - the black people of today have never been owned as a slave and if they have ancestors who were, it has nothing to do with today. That war was fought almost one hundred fifty years ago. Things have progressed, your race was given everything because of your skin color. And isn't that exactly what you didn't want - to be treated differently becasue of your skin color? Well you were and you are still insisting that you still be treated that way.

I think most of the blacks who are complaining today are those who have to actually work for what they want just like whites. There is no longer affirmative action - well almost. Things are supposed to happen now because of ability not color or race - at least it shouldn't because that is the ultimate goal. However it is still happening because of black people who are still trying to get by on skin color and not ability. To those who are, try developing your ability and quit sqwaking about racism.

And as for Oprah and her Angel Network - just whose money do you think she is using? Certainly not hers. She asks for donations from eveywhere (just like SJR). Oh, I am sure she gives some of her own for tax breaks and write-offs, but most of that Angel Network money is from donations from the WHITE community and corporate tax write-offs as well. She is just the broker. The money Oprah does give generally goes to Africa - which is a good thing. She should give and she should also encourage BLACK PEOPLE to give to Africa as well. After all isn't that the new label - African American?

I would like to know when was the last time any black person or organization gave to white people, or helped a white person, or just said thank you to a white person who might have held the door for them - or done any random act of kindness for them? Most of my encounters with the BLACK race have not been justified as very good. Most black people I come in contact with are not humble, but act as though they are owed everything they get and more - AND THEY NEVER SAY THANK YOU.

I will still hold doors for whoever is walking behind me - whether or not I am thanked. It's how I was raised. I will do any act of kindness I can do for anyone of any race or color - I won't be tainted by the rudeness of the black community. I will do this because I am polite, educated (which I paid for), and spiritual in nature, and believe in the "Golden Rule". I also still believe that black people are bullies.

I know I am older than prnces and Mellywell and I thank you both for your candor and bravery for standing up for what you see is real and true.
