EXCLUSIVE: Cruise/Shields' Births -- New Twist

UPDATE: St. John's Hospital still has not called back, but we may have figured out what is going on here. It seems as if the nurses entered the license number of the doctors who delivered the children. Doctors are registered with the Medical Board, not the Nursing Board. Reps from two other hospitals -- UCLA and St. Joseph's -- told TMZ the box for "License Number" should have the nurse's license, not the doctor's.

A rep from L.A. County Vital Records, the agency where birth certificates are filed, confirmed to TMZ that the "License Number" should be the nurse's, not the doctor's.

The same nurse who signed the birth certificate for Tom Cruise's daughter Suri also signed the birth certificate for Brooke Shields' daughter Grier, but there's an interesting discrepancy.

Both babies were born on April 18 at St. John's Hospital in Santa Monica. Anne Heffernan is the registered nurse who signed both birth certificates. As TMZ reported Monday, Heffernan, who never saw Suri, signed her birth certificate. A hospital rep says Heffernan is authorized to sign when a doctor is not available.

On the Suri Cruise certificate, Heffernan's license number is G48079. On the Grier Henchy certificate, Heffernan's license number is different -- G068399. TMZ checked with the California Board of Registered Nursing and we were told Heffernan's license number didn't match either of the birth certificates. A Board rep told TMZ Hefferman's license number is 317058.

And it gets more interesting. The Board of Registered Nursing told TMZ the license number on Grier's certificate comes back to a Dorothy Rork. The license number on Suri's birth certificate is a mystery. There is no name attached to that license number.

By the way, unlike Suri's birth certificate, Brooke Shields signed the one for her daughter. Someone listed as "Friend" signed the certificate for Suri.

Also, the hospital's policy is to file birth certificates with L.A. County within 10 days of birth. In the case of Suri, it took 20 days to file, in part because the "friend" didn't sign for 16 days. In Grier's case, Brooke herself signed two days after her birth and the certificate was filed nine days after the baby was born.

TMZ placed multiple calls to St. John's. So far, no comment.

541. I just looked up both of those license numbers on the California Medical Board website, and they are the license numbers for their respective doctors:
G68399 - SHERYL ROSS-BECKER, MD
G48079 - ALBERT JOHN PHILLIPS, MD

Both certificates look legit to me!

543. Oh Those Two Enemies, Tom Cruise And Brook Shields Do It Again!
What are the odds of it all. The well known enemies just happened to have babies at the same hospital on the same day and the same sex. This may explain how Cruise got the birth certificate. Since Shields gave birth to a real baby, somehow, maybe she was able to obtain a second birth certificate (tricking the hospital staff) or...maybe the Cruise certificate is a copy of Shields actual certificate. The right paper and a home computer makes it very easy to change any document . All that needs to be changed on the birth certificate are the numbers.
These two stars made very big headlines once before. I guess they want to do another show together.

544. I really don't know what to think. I think it's very strange that not even their closest friends have seen the baby. I really tend to lean towards thinking that something is wrong with Suri and that maybe she's a little older than she is suppoed to be. If she is older then that would make her Chris Klein's baby. Why haven't we heard a word from him in response to the allegations that he's the father. ? I would have thought he would have SOMETHING to say about it all.

The other thing that could be is that poor Suri has a deformity and that they are embarrassed, in which case, they shouldn't be. It's ridiculous.. Just get on with it already and either show us a picture or admit that Suri isn't real.

545. #3, you're right. I noticed the same thing about "Thomas" and "Kate." If Tom's name is formal and his given name Thomas, should not Katie's be Katherine? And who is this mysterious "friend of the child?"

546. I have to agree with some of the comments about leaving these two actors alone. People everywhere will think someone elses child looks funny. My daughter was a bit funny looking when she was born but grew out of it, as all babies will. I just have to say leave these two parents alone for now. When they see fit that the time for them to proudly show of their precious daughter Suri to the world they will and EVERYONE that degraded them or said mean and unkindly thoughts of Suri not being real will then have to look at themselves in the mirror. Knowing they were very wrong. That is why you ppl out there that dont know what ur talking about with these two I think you just need to shut up and let them live their lives like we all do, In the privacy of our own home. Tom, Katie and Suri you have my support always, I love all of Toms movies and love Katie's movies she's been in. Suri will deffinately become an actress when she grows up and will wait for her first movie. TomKatSuri's #1Fan....

547. This is hilarious.. I have to admit, ANYONE can make something sound strange.. I, myself am not all that interested in Tom Cruise.. well maybe deduct about 15 years and you've got me goin on him but AHEM anywayz!!! I don't really care and honestly I have not exactly paid any attention to this couple SINCE I found out that their baby was born.. I DIDN'T even know there WAS a controversy.. but when is there isn't one? All in all, what I am trying to say is.. forget about it. what they do.. is their business.. when they're ready they'll do whatever they want.

549. i believe that people should leave them alone. there has been other celebs. that have had children and no one is on their backs to see pictures of them. i believe that katie is doin what she feels is best for her children. i mean maybe her and tom might be havin problems and they are tryin to figure out how to deal with them so tom didn't have children with nacole. is it our business no it isn't.. i believe that when the time is right they will show the baby. but until then. i believe that you need to leave them alone. have to noticed that when a celeb. dies that is when you know how many times they have been married and how many children they have. if it all is false i believe they are the ones that are goin to have to answer for it not you or me they are. so i believe that you need to give them time to breathe. i think the whole thing is cause tom cruise is travelin around the world while katie is sittin at home takin care of her children and because of that people what to say things that aren't true or is none of their busness. you have to ask yourself this. if you were in katie's shoes would you do what she is doin or would you do the opposite? i don't believe all that i read. cause i live in a world that doen't understand change. so no one has seen suri whats it to use she isn't our child she is katie's. as you can see not alot of people new about her adopted children. so maybe she feels that she is doin what is right for her daughter. i do. if i was in her shoes i wouldn't want crazy people googlin over my child. or children. let it rest when it is time for katie to show her children she will show them. give her time to be a new mom. she needs her space. from what i see thats what she pretty much is askin for. cause i believe that she might be havin problems dealin with the fact that tom isn't with her he is travelin all over the world to promote this new movie of his that i don't believe is goin to be a good one. i am not a tom cruise fan. never have been. but i have been a fan of katie's for a few yrs. let her be and enjoy bein a mom to her children, and find someone else to dwell on.

550. I think that this subject is way over the top. Everyone has to suspect something about those in the public eye. They are being private and reserved, so everyone has to make their own story. I am sure there is a baby and there is nothing wrong with keeping your baby private and out of the media for their own protection. They are not the only ones that have kept their children out of the media. While I will admit that the photos seem odd, they may not have actually been taken on the dates that shown to us on the web. Those dates could have been doctored. Leave them alone and let them get on with living and enjoying their daughter. Tom has been a father to two other children with Nicole. He knows what he is doing as least in that respect.

551. I think something is wrong with the baby and they don't want it do been seen in public until they themselves can accept it. That is my first theory....my second being that Tom is a Scientologist and they practice things that are a little different than the rest of us, maybe he has to keep the baby out of public sight until it is okayed by the head scientologist....well.....it is no more far fetched than some of the other things I've read :)

553. I'm an RN in california and I can tell you that any license that starts with a "G" is indeed an MD license. FYI. RN licenses do NOT have letters attached. I looked up the nurse on the BRN website and she is indeed a midwife.

I am an oldie..I remember when Tom Cruise and Mimi Rogers were married.. the reason for their split was she wanted childern and all the rumors were that Tom could not have kids..Then when he was married to Nicole Kidman...after 10 years of bliss all of a sudden its over and she was pregant rumors where that she had an affair with the director she was working with at that time within months of her split she had a mmiscarriage...hummmmmm nothing against Nicole she is a great actress and beautiful..Tom use to be one of my favorites ....no so much anymore I hate control freaks...and Tom is a CONTROL FREAK BIG TIME...it seems to me that Tom has a little secret he does not want the public to know which is cool its his business ....but then he should have been more private about his life, he has been so public .. its his own fault!! Don't you think...

555. i think that this whole deal with tom cruise and katie's baby is being blown out of proportion who cares if they havent shown pictures they will when they are ready to which might not be for a while but whatever. and that whole thing with the birth certificates is just crazy
