Lets Get This Party Started
Let's Get This Party Started: Top Stories for Wednesday 07/12/06

One thing's for sure: Star Jones ain't FOXy: FOX News says today that it has "no interest" in hiring the recently fired TV personality, and the fired "View" co-host hasn't had any conversations with CNN.

Over at "The View," insiders say that the post-Jones era has had a "liberating" effect on the survivors, namely Barbara Walters, Joy Behar, and Elisabeth Hasselbeck, and that they might not look to fill Star's spot permanently for some time.

After her high-profile firing two weeks ago from ABC, says In Touch Weekly, Star has been approached by cablers CNN and FOX News for a hosting job. But both networks deny that that's the case. A FOX News spokeswoman, in fact, said the network had "no interest" in hiring her, according to the Associated Press, and CNN said there haven't been any conversations with Jones, though the possibility might exist in the future.

Meanwhile, her current TV gig – hosting the HGTV series "House Hunters" in segments taped before her firing – has been a boon for HGTV, boosting the ratings for show 36 percent over what it had been averaging this year, even though she actually appears on screen for only a fraction of the show. HGTV has no immediate plans to use Star again, according to a spokeswoman, but they "wouldn't rule it out."

And elsewhere, the Star-free "View" has become a happier place, according to show insiders, especially for Elisabeth Hasselbeck, according to the New York Post. Hasselbeck "can finally get a word in edgewise, and you can see how she's opened up." What's more, "Barbara and Joy are joking around a lot more. It's definitely a looser atmosphere now."

It'll certainly be a perk-off next Monday when recent American Idol contestant Kellie "Calamari" Pickler sits in as a guest-host.

Foxy Brown a No-Show In Court But Avoids Arrest

The trouble-prone rapper Foxy Brown missed a court date yesterday in Jersey City, NJ, but avoided an arrest warrant when the woman accusing her of "terroristic threats" and "harassment," among other things, went to the wrong courtroom, according to Lloyd Grove.

Rasheeda Ellis, a former assistant to Brown, born Inga Marchand, alleges that her former boss "continously calls [her] cell phone and E-mails her with verbal abuse, causing the complainant to fear for her safety," and that Brown has threatened her with physical abuse as well. Ellis went to Hudson County Superior Court instead of Jersey City, and as a result, an arrest warrant wasn't issued for Brown, even though she failed to show herself.

Neither side provided comment yesterday, and the trial has been rescheduled for August 23. Brown already faces charges in Manhattan Criminal Court of assaulting a New York manicurist from over a year ago, and that case has yet to be resolved.

Jackie Interrupts Concert, Tries To Sing, Endures Abuse

For his latest stunt, action star Jackie Chan allegedly jumped up on stage at a concert Monday night in Hong Kong and tried to sing with the performing artist, only to find himself on the wrong end of abuse from the audience.

Allegedly admitting to the crowd at singer-songwriter Jonathan Lee's concert in Hong Kong that he was intoxicated, Chan abruptly took the stage and demanded to perform a duet with Lee, and tried to conduct the band, but managed only to stop and restart the music awkwardly. As the very uncomfortable interaction continued, fans began to heckle Chan, whereupon Chan hurled insults right back at them. A Chan rep had no comment on the incident.

Cruise-Bashing "South Park" Episode Returns

Even though baby Suri might be missing in action, the episode of "South Park" that lampoons her dad Tom Cruise has been found, and will air on July 19 on Comedy Central, according to this morning's Daily Variety.

The episode, called "Trapped in the Closet," was removed from the network's repeat schedule in May, which angered show creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, who said that they were told that the network took it off the air to placate Cruise, whose "Mission: Impossible III" was being released in theaters at the same time – and just happened to be distributed by Viacom, Comedy Central's corporate overlord.

But last week, "Trapped in the Closet" received an Emmy nomination, and putting the show back on the air will likely help repair the relationship between Stone and Parker and network brass.

"Idol" Begins Anew

Hard though it is to believe, the annual rite of amateur entertainer passage known as audition season for "American Idol" will begin again in less than a month. Show producers announced that tryouts will begin on Tuesday, August 8th, and will continue through September 19 in a variety of cities, including San Antonio, Minneapolis, Memphis, and Birmingham, where this year's winner Taylor Hicks, season two champ Ruben Studdard, and season four runner-up Bo Bice all began their journey.

Meanwhile, "Idol" executive producer Nigel Lythgoe says that he's already working on getting Carole King and (oh dear) Andrew Lloyd Webber to appear as mentors to the next group of Idol finalists.

"Rock Star: Supernova" Gets Sued By Punk Band Called...What Else?

An Orange County-based band called Supernova has filed a complaint alleging unfair competition and trademark infringement against Mark Burnett Productions, CBS, and other producers behind "Rock Star: Supernova."

But, according to the lawsuit, Burnett's company filed seven US trademark applications to corner the name Supernova, as well as two more for the title "Rock Star: Supernova," the CBS show in which Tommy Lee and cohorts go looking for a new frontman. Lawyers for Burnett et al. say that the original Supernova's case is "without merit."

The "first" Supernova has had a minor career in punk rock, with one of their tunes, "Chewbacca," appearing in the Kevin Smith film, "Clerks," and spots on the Warped Tour.

17. Dear Kitten, I remember when Rosie said that I also remember how pissed Star was and she was right. Some of us "blacks" have great role models. They're called parents. W don't need gangsta rappers, athletics or tv personalities. My daughter has her father and I but hell if she's inspired by the words of Maya Angelou, or Oprah's success, the William's sisters fighting spirit, or even the diginty and brilliamce of Obama so be it. Rosie doesn't have to worry about "blacks" but what she should worry about is the homophobes that are in power who believe she's has no rights.

18. I think that way to much time has been put into the drama on the View. If she's gone let it rest..but I damn sure would have like to see what happened off camera...At Barbara Walters age...do you still catfight...and folks ranting and raving over Star Jones plastic surgeory...if I can recall..didn't Barbara have a few nips and tuck herself...hollywood is always full of drama..almost sad that no matter how much money stars have..they always seem so unhappy..

19. Star Jones is an ugly woman inside and out.

She really needs an attitude adjustment and I certainly will not watch anything she is involved with.

The View was good to her for years and look how she repaid them...I agree she is a snake bitch learking and looking for a hurtin!

20. It amazes me how ignorant people can be. If you are not Black, and if you have not spent any significant time with a Black person, you should refrain from commenting on the culture.

Some of the top Neurosurgeons, Professors, Artists, etc. are black. Go pick up the most recent copy of Essence magazines top 50 African Americans. You would be amazed at what we have to look up to.

You will find very few black serial killers, child molestars, etc. (those are usually caucasian males) so when it comes to what role models people have, it would be wise to refrain from judging based on race.

I think Star Jones was right to be offended by placing such negative stigmatisms on Black people. White people would not want a Black comedian coming on a talk show talking about how sad white people must be about the fact that the majority of serial killers and child molestars that are incarcerated are white.

21. Kitten,

I'm white and you are a racist. I would hardly want my children to copy someone like Rosie. Very little if any education, lack of manners, arrogant attitude with no reason, and a lifestyle that she promotes by taking everyone on a "gay cruise". Cruise is the operative word I guess-being facetious here. As far as role models I hope you don't have children because you certainly wouldn't be on my list as someone to listen to.

By the way the "Rosie is right"-she's always right in her own sad mind. Big bucks for no talent-what a waste. She belongs on a dock working in a warehouse.

22. Kitten, I am black, and I couldn't agree with you anymore. I don't see why you would call yourself racist though, unless that is how you feel. If it's not, then give yourself a break, cuz you are totally right. Truth is, most black kids (especially black males) grow up wanting to be rappers or professional athletes. It sickens me. Mind you, the situation is more complicated then JUST popular culture. But just looking at that angle right now, few grow up wanting to be doctors and lawyers. The funny thing is though, these black kids fail to realize that this "black culture" they are eating up is really the product of a group of very rich white guys. Sure, hip hop began on the streets, but the commericializtion and formulaic nature of hip hop is the product of a few very rich white men. Ironic, isn't it? But, to keep our perpective balanced though, it does happen all too often where those that do grow up wanting more have a much harder time doing so than the regullar population, and I don't mean this to black people in particular, ANYONE of ANY race faces this problem if they grow up poor. No money, and difficult family situations make it very hard for some of these kids to make it into college and better themselves. All too often, these young kids end up having to raise the families their parents were unable too. Sometimes, these kids live in such hostile neighbourhoods that they join gangs, not to be cool, but simply for protection within their own neighbourhoods. However, not all kids are in this situation, and when that is not the problem, THEN I would say the #1 problem facing young black america is this stereotypical image of what a black person is that is being perpetuated in the media. I have always broken away from this mould myself. I am very proud of my background, however, I have never felt like listening to hip hop and watching basketball was what I neeed to do to prove so. I am a grad student with a love for classic and indie rock (most black kids don't even realize rock music is a black invention, few even celebrate Jimi), but I still know my history.

23. Burn, burn, BURN those career bridges, Star....talk about COMIC RELIEF! SHE isn't funny but her dumb-ass comments & actions sure are! First, EVERYONE in the world KNOWS(including Ms. Jones' herself) that she's simply a beard for Mr. Reynolds---* I think the man should win the "Humanitarian Award of the Year" for having to sleep in the same bedroom! Cuz you know that sleep is the ONLY thing happening in THAT bedroom! LOL COME ON---Can ya BLAME the guy? Who the heck wants to......Wait. Ewwww. BAD visual. Second, the wedding was TACKY, WAY-overdone(her fat-ass was afraid to be an 'older, mature' bride---WTF is wrong with THAT?) & unless you were SPONSORING her fake affair or SPENDING $$ on them somehow , you couldnt GO to the wedding/reception(or popular enough to be photographed next to)....Then she BURNS Barbara Walters on BARBARA's show...the ONE WOMAN in the business that GAVE her a REAL chance---HOW ignorant IS that woman?

24. To the racist kitten, wtf are you talking about. It's time to leave the sticks honey we have alot more role models than the ones you seem to see in the news. This may come as a shock to you, but we are now doctors and lawyers as well as teachers. And, get ready for this....we can even vote!! We are not lacking role models, as you and the fat carpet muncher suggests. What we are evidently lacking is good representation. And who says gangsta rap anymore?? There is no one more sadistic than eminem, and last I checked, he was white. Or do you consider him to be a good role model? If so, I guess I'll be seeing you in the news!

25. Rosie speaks the truth? Are you kidding me? First of all, I wouldn't expect you to know anything about black role models due to the fact that all the media do is glorify blacks in a negative manner. The media is quick to point out the bad shit that black america does, but rarely reports anything good. For example, Illinois senator Obama, he has been serving his office to the best of his ability, for the people, black and white, and all the media reports is when he got into a conflict with a white senator, in which he then resolved. I'm not saying that all white america is ignorant when it comes to black america, but there are those few that still doesn't get it. Black america does have role models from the past and the present, ie., Judge Mathis, Judge Maybelene, Micheal Jordan, Martin Luther King, Malcom X, Marcus Garvey, and many others, not including local business men and women, muscians (not gangsta rappers, but real musicians), and politicians. Speaking of gangsta rappers, once again this is an example of how the media took something out of context and turned it against us. Let me explain to those who do not know what gangsta rap is. Gangsta rap derived from the music world classifying something they knew nothing about at the time when it got started. When the group N.W.A first came on the scene they spoke about things that happened in their community and across the nation. They spoke the truth about how people were dying and getting beat up, and while speaking about these issues they used explicit lyrics, which at the time was unheard of. They're the reason why we can say what we want on the radio airwaves today. They didn't come out and say yeah we going to start gangsta rap, they just spoke their minds and while doing so referred to themselves as gangstas because of their environment, which at the time when there were rapping, they were in a gang. Black america related to them because we experienced the same thing all over the country in our own community. A racist, no I wouldn't call you that, I think it's more along the lines of an IDIOT. As for being our own worst enemy, I would say what race don't have those individuals who gives their race a bad name, for example look at what you did for the rest of white america.

26. To #15 I wouldn't go as far as to give you the satisfaction of calling you a racist but you just like your pal Rosie are ignorant as hell. Tell me exactly what you two know about black history do you know how to read a history book, because over the years there are alot of influential african americans that this generation can look up to not including rappers. Oh yeah i forgot ya'll do have Britney Spears and Paris Hilton's triffling a$$ to look up to right. Or maybe your roll model should be K-Fed who tries to be a rapper but is a true waste of time. So in turn to shut you up i would love to know who you would consider to be your roll model, because as far as i'm concerned ya'll have some really slim pickins partner!

27. I have never watched the View, intentionaly. I had the misfortune of catching a bit of it when Al Gore was on. I could not look away, I was repulsed yet drawn to the utter stupidity of Elisabeth. I wish I could remember exactly what she said or the question she asked ( does anyone recall what I am refering to?) but it was so embarrasingly dumb that I cannot believe she is even allowed to speak at all. I found myself wanting to smack some intelligence into her.

28. To # 15. I so totally agree with you. Except, for the fact I think you approve of Rosie and I can't stand that beligerant, intolerant lesbian!

29. Elizabeth is Elizabitch! She hates gay people. I say fire that bitch next. I hope her husband cheats on her. I hope her daughter becomes a liberal.

30. My opinion is this. "The View" is about as exciting and informative as those little fliers that come in your mail. It is not addressed to anyone, only "occupant" and they provide coupons for items no one buys. I personal preferred watching that male version with Danny Bonneducci. Because, let's face it, watching anything with Boneducci is like watching the person with 3 teeth on the news explaining how he could not understand how the tornado blew his trailer away. You know you should change the channel, but you can't help but watch. But I digress...

I think Ms. Walters has looked at the recent stories of celebs and began to wonder..."how can I reclaim the spotlight. Should I do a thought provoking story about the world's woes. Or maybe a pull at your heart strings interview.....No, I got it....CAT FIGHT!" I personal feel this was all planned to happen the way it did so Babs could get a few days media coverage above Brittney Spears and Angelena Jolie.

And Star...hmm....Oh I remember her! She was the Payless Shoe lady, right? Very credible. She ranks right up there with the little gecko that sells insurance!

Give me Katie Couric and Diane Sayer in a Celebrity Death Match, and I'm there. But Bar and Star.....I think I'd prefer to listen to Paris Hilton sing then these 2 b**ch about each other.
