Oprah & Gay Rumors -- Pictures Tell Story

Oprah, Gayle and Stedman

Oprah says she's not gay -- period. Winfrey says she felt compelled to proclaim to the world – in the August issue of O Magazine -- that she and longtime best friend Gayle King are not lovers.

Oprah was clearly looking to put out a fire, but it made us wonder: Where did all the smoke come from? Here's a photo and video timeline that may explain how the gay rumors got fueled.

Between 1987 and 2000, Oprah and Stedman Graham seemed inseparable, appearing at countless events and frequently photographed showing plenty of PDA.

Then, suddenly, Stedman could have ended up on a milk carton -- there are a scant few pictures of the couple after 2000. But as quickly as Stedman faded from the scene, Gayle King emerged, side-by-side, with O.

And there's more.

The two people closest to Oprah in the world are rarely seen together with the talk show queen. TMZ found only a few photos.

And the story doesn't end here. Stedman has talked openly about how he and Oprah lead their own lives.

Indeed, at event after event -- especially after 2000 -- Oprah often showed up solo, sometimes talking about her close relationship with Gayle.

And right back at you, Oprah. At this year's Tony Awards, Gayle gushed about her famous friend.

Gayle, who is divorced with two sons, helps run O Magazine and the pair are inseparable. When they're not together, they talk multiple times every day.

So that's where the smoke came from and why Oprah chose to put out the fire.

2266. I find it absolutely amazing that so many people don't have anything better to do than gossip about who's doing what or with whom. If everybody (myself included) spent as much energy on making the world a better place to live in, we'd all live better and happier. Who cares who's gay and who's not. Who was seen with who-and what they were doing. If all the money that is spent on gossip, star chasing, and all of those STUPID rag magazines were put together, we could eliminate homelessness and hunger in the United States AND pay off the national debt. Come on guys-GET A LIFE!!!!!!

2267. I am gay and I have watched Oprah almost since her beginning.
I admire her very much, she and Jackie Kennedy were and are my heroines. There is nothing more in the Gay world that would be great to see Oprah on TV admitting to being Gay and that Gayle is not only her best friend but also her lover, her business partner and her confidant and put it to rest. If she is truly straight, which I still have my doubts, deal with it ladies but they do make a beautiful couple Elaine

2268. I don't believe for one minute that Oprah and Gayle are gay lovers. When that little green monster called envy raises it's ugly head..some one has to start something about a person who has done so much for so many people.
Even if she were gay, that does not change the person she is..loving, caring, giving and not into her self at all

2275. If I were Gayle I'd dump Oprah! Unless she likes publicity, money, fame, and all the bullsh*t that goes with it! Oprah is to plastic and untrusting..... As a so call friend I could not trust or confide in her. I beliee her to be for Oprah and only Oprah. Her money means nothing to me whatsoever. I'm most likely happier than she'll ever wish for. Sorry Oprah you just do not impress me!

2279. Yes, I love Oprah, and always will, I believed in her dream, and the dream came true, she is a fine example of a fine black women who went through the black struggle and made it, and is now so powerful, if she is gay, it would not make a difference to me, she still shows passion for others, and she keeps it real, and most of all she shares her wealth. I love you Oprah, look me up if you ever find time. Much Love to Oprah and Gale.
