Nick and Vanessa on "TRL": The Anti-Chemistry

Nick Lachey made a much-anticipated appearance on MTV's "Total Request Live" this afternoon with current squeeze Vanessa Minnillo co-hosting, and the chemistry was crackling -- between Nick and co-host Damien Fahey, that is.

Despite the fact that the two were just laying it on one another thick and heavy at New York's Butter nightclub the other night, Nick and Vanessa barely looked at each other during Lachey's appearance on the show, and no physical contact between the two was noted even when Vanessa passed just in front of Nick on the way to look out the window. What's more, their one moment of banter, when Minnillo made the observation that Nick is "everywhere," inspired a deeply awkward response from Nick.

Indeed, Nick, who was premiering his new video, left Vanessa (and the audience) wanting, much as he did Monday afternoon at a Manhattan restaurant, when, despite her best efforts, she couldn't get Nick to give her a kiss.

Nick did, at Fahey's considerable urging, plant one on a very happy mother who, somewhat creepily, came to the show with her daughter, and who said she'd been a fan of Nick's "gorgeous" face since he was in 98°.

31. I totally saw chemistry there...especially when he said "I'm everywhere" (big emphasis on the 'I'm"). He was specifically pointing out that she is seen everywhere as well. (with him) His body language as he moved and swayed around showed his nervousness in the moment. This is a guy who has performed in stadiums, so the nervousness was likely the fact that he was standing right next to his girlfriend.

And lets be honest, folks. If he had been showing his affection for her on TRL so that their relationship was obvious, we'd all be sitting here today posting about how Nick & Vanessa are cashing in on their relationship as a money-making publicity grabber. Basically, they are damned if they do and damned if they don't. Personally, I think they look really cute together. Perhaps Nick Lachey has found someone who is his equal in maturity and intellect. I'm sure that would be a refreshing change for him.

Of course they were trying to be professional, who expects them to be all over each other and display a kiss, etc. during a live taping - by no means does this exhibit "anti-chemistry"...ridiculous - they are CLEARLY together, dating and Vanessa is not a rebound, she's gorgeous, cute, smart and has great personality, which is why he's drawn to her; no need to further analyze, he's trying to keep cool also surrounded by cameras, which is what he's made clear in a recent interview. It was acceptable for him to be all over Jessica b/c they were married and had their reality show, this is a new relationship that is being taken slow, but gradually been allowing everyone to see them together. He's clearly over Jessica and rightfully so, he's met his match.

40. Jessica dumped nick because her head had gotten a little too big. I'm glad he recovered, comedians were already making jokes about nick lachey's career after she dumped him and now look at him! Flying high and she's the one struggling to salvage her career.

41. Also, I think minnilo is cute as buttons and they make a really cute couple. I thought her display on the patio of that restaurant was so cute. She seriously dotes on him and that's awesome. Jessica simpson thought she was too good for him. Don't you think he deserves someone who WANTS to be with him. I'm so glad he survived that jessica fiasco. The only reason the bimbo was famous was because of him. The only reason she didn't sign a prenup was because she and her father had their divorce already planned and thought nick was going to be the one with more money. Serves them right.

Nick and Vannessa definitely have chemistry. They look awesome together. I wish them the best which is much more than I can say for Jessica Simpson.

She is Nick's past and she'll regret it for the rest of her life.

43. Vanessa seems like a good person and I think she's good for Nick. Where ever this relationship goes, it's anybody's guess, but we can't expect him to just sit home and waste his life away. As for him and Jessica, it's definitely OVER. These two will never get back together. She made the comment she is not "dating". She is not dating in the public eye, but believe me she is "dating". She is not dating someone she wants to be seen with, if she was "dating" someone she thought would be with her in two weeks, believe me she would show him off. Nick is a good guy and Jessica loss is Vanessa gain. As for Vanessa throwing herself at NIck, if she was throwing herself at Nick, I'm sure he would be running the other way. These two are just dating, finding out if there is anything there. She's entitled to be affectionate if she wants.
