61. This wouldn't be such an issue if we, as a society, did not revere actors and sports stars as if they were gods. People keep them on a pedastal and then when it becomes clear that this actor / sport star is just as human as the rest of us, people go off the deep end trashing the actor / sport star as if he'd just been discovered to be a serial killer.

Mel Gibson is a great actor. I love watching his movies. I always will. But my enjoyment isn't ruined with the inevitable discovery that he's only human. I knew that all along. People make mistakes, and this was a biggie, but it doesn't change the quality of his acting or his film choices.

62. To the ninny who called Gibson a Nazi -lover - You're a typical cowardly bigot, and there's a btter than average chance that you are under the influence of a control substance right now-at least that would explain your idiocy.

64. Wow, Had no idea so many people are so easily irritated. Give the guy a break! He's done some great movies as well as some not so great- just like everybody else. Unfortunately you can mock and denigrate most faiths all you want, but there's one that if you dare breathe an adverse thought you're ostracized...I personally enjoy is political incorrectness.

66.
It is true that one drink can impair your judgement, but unfortunately many people do not understand that. And once you are impaired, you are in no position to make rational choices about drinking and driving. But you think you are. That's what alcohol does. It makes you think you are better than you are.

If you are of age and it is your preference, there is nothing wrong with having a drink. If you have a license, insurance and registration, you can also drive. What you cannot EVER do is both on the same day.

Drink club soda with lime in it, and laugh it up with your friends. Drive home, park your car, go inside and drink your head off. Go out and drink, then get a taxi. Or get your car towed. Do whatever you have to do, but don't be an ass and get behind the wheel of your car if you have been drinking alcohol. There is no excuse and there never will be. If you didn't know that before, now you do.

DWI is the probably the crime that many people who have never been in trouble with the law before are most often charged with. Frequently it is their first experience in the system. They are not bad people, but rather misinformed or ill-informed people who made a bad choice which as we all know can have tragic consequences.

More needs to be done to educate the public about this danger we all face - drivers and pedestrians. Education will save lives. And help normally law-abiding people stay out of prison - literally and figuratively.

Yes, I speak from experience.

67. Mel Gibson is just another victim of the puritanical fascism that is infecting this once potentially great nation.

70. To be a Christian does not mean you are perfect...you are just forgiven. There was only one man who was perfect and he died on the cross for us so that we did not have to be perfect.

Mel Gibson is a good man but just a man.

71. There are a lot more important things going on in this world than Mell getting pulled over for DUI. For crying out loud the man is only human. Who gives a fat rat's ass what he does on his own time?

72. We should all say "There but for the grace of God go I" and realize that our turn just has not yet come.

Good luck Mel....

73. That's right everyone, Mel Gibson was arrested. and yes, he was the very first celebrity to get arrested for DUI. so let's punish him for his religious beliefs while Hollywood liberals can get away with murder without us batting an eye.

74. #10 How can one be driving drunk on his own time.....WTF are you guys on?

He endangered the lives of EVERY other motorist out there...that doesn't matter to anyone else I guess huh?

Well when you lose a family member to a drunken idiot such as Mel, we'll see if you take the same "on his ownt time" stance.

75. Everybody lines up to through stones. Mel is as human as anyone else. Having all that money doesn't mean that one will not have problems. Some things money can't buy. I wish he had not done that, puting other people at risk. I hope he realized what could have happened and never do it again.
