Gibson's Anti-Semitic Tirade -- Alleged Cover Up

EXCLUSIVE: MEL GIBSONTMZ has learned that Mel Gibson went on a rampage when he was arrested Friday on suspicion of drunk driving, hurling religious epithets. TMZ has also learned that the Los Angeles County Sheriff's department had the initial report doctored to keep the real story under wraps.

TMZ has four pages of the original report prepared by the arresting officer in the case, L.A. County Sheriff's Deputy James Mee. According to the report, Gibson became agitated after he was stopped on Pacific Coast Highway and told he was to be detained for drunk driving Friday morning in Malibu. The actor began swearing uncontrollably. Gibson repeatedly said, "My life is f****d." Law enforcement sources say the deputy, worried that Gibson might become violent, told the actor that he was supposed to cuff him but would not, as long as Gibson cooperated. As the two stood next to the hood of the patrol car, the deputy asked Gibson to get inside. Deputy Mee then walked over to the passenger door and opened it. The report says Gibson then said, "I'm not going to get in your car," and bolted to his car. The deputy quickly subdued Gibson, cuffed him and put him inside the patrol car.

TMZ has learned that Deputy Mee audiotaped the entire exchange between himself and Gibson, from the time of the traffic stop to the time Gibson was put in the patrol car, and that the tape fully corroborates the written report.

Once inside the car, a source directly connected with the case says Gibson began banging himself against the seat. The report says Gibson told the deputy, "You mother f****r. I'm going to f*** you." The report also says "Gibson almost continually [sic] threatened me saying he 'owns Malibu' and will spend all of his money to 'get even' with me."

The report says Gibson then launched into a barrage of anti-Semitic statements: "F*****g Jews... The Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world." Gibson then asked the deputy, "Are you a Jew?"

The deputy became alarmed as Gibson's tirade escalated, and called ahead for a sergeant to meet them when they arrived at the station. When they arrived, a sergeant began videotaping Gibson, who noticed the camera and then said, "What the f*** do you think you're doing?"

A law enforcement source says Gibson then noticed another female sergeant and yelled, "What do you think you're looking at, sugar tits?"

We're told Gibson took two blood alcohol tests, which were videotaped, and continued saying how "f****d" he was and how he was going to "f***" Deputy Mee.

Gibson was put in a cell with handcuffs on. He said he needed to urinate, and after a few minutes tried manipulating his hands to unzip his pants. Sources say Deputy Mee thought Gibson was going to urinate on the floor of the booking cell and asked someone to take Gibson to the bathroom.

After leaving the bathroom, Gibson then demanded to make a phone call. He was taken to a pay phone and, when he didn't get a dial tone, we're told Gibson threw the receiver against the phone. Deputy Mee then warned Gibson that if he damaged the phone he could be charged with felony vandalism. We're told Gibson was then asked, and refused, to sign the necessary paperwork and was thrown in a detox cell.

Deputy Mee then wrote an eight-page report detailing Gibson's rampage and comments. Sources say the sergeant on duty felt it was too "inflammatory." A lieutenant and captain then got involved and calls were made to Sheriff's headquarters. Sources say Mee was told Gibson's comments would incite a lot of "Jewish hatred," that the situation in Israel was "way too inflammatory." It was mentioned several times that Gibson, who wrote, directed, and produced 2004's "The Passion of the Christ," had incited "anti-Jewish sentiment" and "For a drunk driving arrest, is this really worth all that?"

We're told Deputy Mee was then ordered to write another report, leaving out the incendiary comments and conduct. Sources say Deputy Mee was told the sanitized report would eventually end up in the media and that he could write a supplemental report that contained the redacted information -- a report that would be locked in the watch commander's safe.

Initially, a Sheriff's official told TMZ the arrest occurred "without incident." On Friday night, Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore told TMZ: "The L.A. County Sheriff's Department investigation into the arrest of Mr. Gibson on suspicion of driving under the influence will be complete and will contain every factual piece of evidence. Nothing will be sanitized. There was absolutely no favoritism shown to this suspect or any other. When this file is presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney, it will contain everything. Nothing will be left out."

On Saturday, Gibson released the following statement:

"After drinking alcohol on Thursday night, I did a number of things that were very wrong and for which I am ashamed. I drove a car when I should not have, and was stopped by the LA County Sheriffs. The arresting officer was just doing his job and I feel fortunate that I was apprehended before I caused injury to any other person. I acted like a person completely out of control when I was arrested, and said things that I do not believe to be true and which are despicable. I am deeply ashamed of everything I said. Also, I take this opportunity to apologize to the deputies involved for my belligerent behavior. They have always been there for me in my community and indeed probably saved me from myself. I disgraced myself and my family with my behavior and for that I am truly sorry. I have battled with the disease of alcoholism for all of my adult life and profoundly regret my horrific relapse. I apologize for any behavior unbecoming of me in my inebriated state and have already taken necessary steps to ensure my return to health."

6541. I truly believe all of this is so stupid. This man is an actor - he does not make decisions regarding our country or our lives, who cares what he says. In reality it is all about envy and wanting to bring him down. I have to say there are many other people that have done things a lot worse that everyone should focus on. He basically is a good man who may have had unconcious influence from his father and in a drunken stooper let some things come to the surface. Ever heard of emotional pain people? Give him a break. We let child molesters off because they were molested and they have caused physical harm to a MINOR child for God sakes. Get over this and move on!!!

6542. Unbelievable, Once again, the majority of narrowminded, emotional, people who generally "employ" the media and propel the reporting of misconstrued information totally amazes me. Too many people in this country,in the world lack the educational wherewithal to think for themselves and CONSIDER THE SOURCE. They judge guilty until proven innocent, and then, some don't even believe. You wnat to believe all you read, see or hear. As a videographer I know even what you see can be rearranged. Hasn't anyone seen "Paparazzi'? or heard the audio in "True Colors?" ....think for yourself people.

6543. Mel Gibson did the wonderful thing that many human beings don't do by himself. Don't blame him about his character. I give him reason. Why? First he changes many people about his movie. The only one. He know that. And we know that. Secondly, fundamentalism never work: Jewish people have to be moderate people. Where are the tradition? Were are the mysterious ways of God? Think about it. Personally, you win my confiance. I admire you. You have win the best friend from Portugal. Have faith. Many thanks and a hug from Francisco. (You have right about your faith).

6544.
How many people out there have ever gotten drunk? How many people out there when drunk said and did stupid idiotic things that they either couldn't remember or were deeply ashamed of when they did recall it. I know I unfortunately, have been that drunk in my life and I (as well as all who have) know that we were almost powerless to stop our selves from doing or saying really stupid things. Were you forgiven for the things you said or did when severely inebriated? Why not forgive Mel? Just as we would like to be forgiven. All those who never did anything to be ashamed of could throw the first stone.

6546. IF MEL DID OR DID NOT DO THE THINGS IN THE ALEDGED POLICE
REPORT, IS LEFT TO BE PROVEN.THERES ALWAYS 2 AND SOMETIMES MORE SIDES TO A STORY, AND IF ANY LAW WAS BROKEN HE SHOULD PAY AS THE LAW REQUIRES,BUT THIS REMEMBER MEL IS JUST A MAN SOMTIMES INSPIRED BY GOD AND SOMETIMES JUST LIKE ALL OF US FALL SHORT OF THE GLORY OF GOD WE ARE ALL SINERS AND NONE OF US CAN SIT AS JUDGE AND POINT FINGERS.THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST WAS NOT ANTI-SEMTIC,THE MOVIE DETALIED HISTORY AS IT WAS,
GOD PUT IN HIS HEART THE PASSION TO MAKE THIS FILM,AND NO ONE WHO WATCHED THE FILM CAN SAY THEY WERE NOT TOUCHED IN SOME WAY, DONT JUDGE A MAN BY ONE MISTAKE OR EVEN TWO BECAUSE IF SO HOW WOULD THE WORLD PRECIVE YOU

6547. Maybe before you put your thoughts out there or
judge Mel Gibson you should talk to someone who
has a drinking problem or someone close to them.
Most drunks have no control over what they say or
do, nor do they remember. NO, that dose not
excuse him. He has said he was sorry, which is
a lot more than george bush has done for send-
all those fathers, sons, daughters and mothers to
die for oil.

6548. Mr. Gibson,

I have heard your apology for the anti-Semitic comments you recently made and feel you are sincere. However, that is insufficient at this time. Your next actions should be calculated to show real evidence of what is in your heart.

First, let me say that I am a retired United States Army Sergeant Major with 25 1/2 years of service, including service in Vietnam and subsequent to that dedicated the next 20 years to teaching elementary school students. So my life has been full and satisfaction is there. I am also a father of three, a grand father of six and have been married for 43 years. I am also a Jew.

If you wish to expunge at least some of the memory of your recent remarks, you should do the following: visit Jewish homes for the aging (i.e. in Woodland Hills, California and other nearby facilities; provide your prestigious name to fund-raising efforts that occur annually on TV and the community that benefit not only Jews but the community as a whole; undertake a film that retells the exploits of one individual of Jewish ancestry who has benefitted mankind: Jonas Salk Inventor of the first polio vaccine); Moe Berg (a baseball player who also was a spy for the United States in World War II against Nazi Germany and Japan -- he was also a linguist. He did meet a tragic end.); any of those Jews who have received the Medal of Honor from the Civil War on; Jews who fought in the Revolution; other Jewish sports heroes, such as Hank Greenberg,( baseball) Sid Gordon (baseball), Sandy Koufax (basesball), Y.A. Tittle, Bennie Friedman, Ron Mix, (football), Dolph Schayes (basketball) and many others.

I wish you well and sincerely hope that your sincerity overcomes the public perception of your attitude. I have no doubt that, no matter what you say or do, you will continue to have a successful career. You are an extraordinary actor and director, but perhaps you have the lifetime opportunity to remove the fear that Jewish children have faced in their lives and to uplift American society as a whole.

Wish you the best.

6549. This is just ridiculas ! So the man said a few things when he was drunk, big deal. I would bet that there isn't one person that in his or her lifetime hasn't said something racist. Like if a woman sees a black man walking toward her on the street her heart isn't going to start to race with fear. Or if a white man has a daughter dating a black man, he is going to feel scared for her or disappointment in her choice of men. Or how Jewish people don't like their sons or daughters to marry outside of the Jewish faith. Come on people, I don't care who you are, everyone has feelings like this at one time or another. Stop judging this man and look at your own heart. When God comes to call his people home you will not be asked what you think of what Mel Gibson said, you will be judged on your own life. So I suggest you work on your own lives.

6550. Mel Gibson battles a horrific disease. He does not profess to be Jesus Christ, he does not profess to be perfect. He made a movie about Christ based on the Bible. He did not make it up. He does believe in Christ. What many of you don't seem to understand is that Christ preached love and FORGIVENESS. Jesus forgave the most horrific people. Why can't the rest of world forgive a drunks rantings? I think all of you that smear him and abomnify him should look in the mirror and ask yourself if you are pure enough to point out the failings of others.

6551. I just read this stuff - I'm a little late I realize, but I was just curious how many "judges" were out there. I just think it is hysterical that those of you who are badgering Mel are choosing to do so. We ALL make mistakes; we ALL do stupid things. So get over it. He is, afterall, HUMAN! Life is too short to waste more air time and news time putting people down. Maybe we should throw some of YOUR dirty laundry in the public eye and let the world chew on you for while.

6552. Your judgement of Mel Gibson is based on the Hollywood standard, which is not the same as the normal world. I personally have equal objections to the comments of Danny Glover, or any number of hollywood stars that think their opinions on politics have importance, just because they have financial success in some unrelated profession.

6553. Mel had no right to lash out that way, however, he will pay for his mistakes, just like anyone of us. He has a right to his opinion, weather its bad or not, he just shouldnt have blasted it out to the public to hear. we are all pregidous in some way, Mel just seems to be a little too high on himself and has too much money and doesnt know where to put it! he will get his, but i still like him

6554. Judge not, least you be judged. God wants us to forgive and leave the judging to him. When you ask god for forgiveness it is given.Want to be more like God,learn to forgive.

6555. Ok, he got drunk, really drunk, he said and did some stupid things, hurtful things, things that will take a long time for people to get over. But I will bet my bottom dollar, everyone of us have said or done some stupid hurtful things in our lives too. So quick to judge. I have known people and I am sure you have all too, that get so drunk they don't remember a thing about what they said or did, it's called black outs. Alcohol is a great thing isn't it? Saw a teeshirt once, said "instant a-hole, just add alcohol. Ok Mel, you blew it ,let's hope this was a life changing lesson for you, so your family, and those are the only one's that matter, don't ever have to go through this again. To hell with everyone else Mel, and their opinion, you've said I'm sorry enough, and you could contine to say I'm sorry till dooms day, and it still wouldn't be enough. So just concentrate on doing better, and being better, and learn from this, let people see that you have learned and you will change, cause talk is cheep, proof is in our actions.
