Gibson's Anti-Semitic Tirade -- Alleged Cover Up

EXCLUSIVE: MEL GIBSONTMZ has learned that Mel Gibson went on a rampage when he was arrested Friday on suspicion of drunk driving, hurling religious epithets. TMZ has also learned that the Los Angeles County Sheriff's department had the initial report doctored to keep the real story under wraps.

TMZ has four pages of the original report prepared by the arresting officer in the case, L.A. County Sheriff's Deputy James Mee. According to the report, Gibson became agitated after he was stopped on Pacific Coast Highway and told he was to be detained for drunk driving Friday morning in Malibu. The actor began swearing uncontrollably. Gibson repeatedly said, "My life is f****d." Law enforcement sources say the deputy, worried that Gibson might become violent, told the actor that he was supposed to cuff him but would not, as long as Gibson cooperated. As the two stood next to the hood of the patrol car, the deputy asked Gibson to get inside. Deputy Mee then walked over to the passenger door and opened it. The report says Gibson then said, "I'm not going to get in your car," and bolted to his car. The deputy quickly subdued Gibson, cuffed him and put him inside the patrol car.

TMZ has learned that Deputy Mee audiotaped the entire exchange between himself and Gibson, from the time of the traffic stop to the time Gibson was put in the patrol car, and that the tape fully corroborates the written report.

Once inside the car, a source directly connected with the case says Gibson began banging himself against the seat. The report says Gibson told the deputy, "You mother f****r. I'm going to f*** you." The report also says "Gibson almost continually [sic] threatened me saying he 'owns Malibu' and will spend all of his money to 'get even' with me."

The report says Gibson then launched into a barrage of anti-Semitic statements: "F*****g Jews... The Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world." Gibson then asked the deputy, "Are you a Jew?"

The deputy became alarmed as Gibson's tirade escalated, and called ahead for a sergeant to meet them when they arrived at the station. When they arrived, a sergeant began videotaping Gibson, who noticed the camera and then said, "What the f*** do you think you're doing?"

A law enforcement source says Gibson then noticed another female sergeant and yelled, "What do you think you're looking at, sugar tits?"

We're told Gibson took two blood alcohol tests, which were videotaped, and continued saying how "f****d" he was and how he was going to "f***" Deputy Mee.

Gibson was put in a cell with handcuffs on. He said he needed to urinate, and after a few minutes tried manipulating his hands to unzip his pants. Sources say Deputy Mee thought Gibson was going to urinate on the floor of the booking cell and asked someone to take Gibson to the bathroom.

After leaving the bathroom, Gibson then demanded to make a phone call. He was taken to a pay phone and, when he didn't get a dial tone, we're told Gibson threw the receiver against the phone. Deputy Mee then warned Gibson that if he damaged the phone he could be charged with felony vandalism. We're told Gibson was then asked, and refused, to sign the necessary paperwork and was thrown in a detox cell.

Deputy Mee then wrote an eight-page report detailing Gibson's rampage and comments. Sources say the sergeant on duty felt it was too "inflammatory." A lieutenant and captain then got involved and calls were made to Sheriff's headquarters. Sources say Mee was told Gibson's comments would incite a lot of "Jewish hatred," that the situation in Israel was "way too inflammatory." It was mentioned several times that Gibson, who wrote, directed, and produced 2004's "The Passion of the Christ," had incited "anti-Jewish sentiment" and "For a drunk driving arrest, is this really worth all that?"

We're told Deputy Mee was then ordered to write another report, leaving out the incendiary comments and conduct. Sources say Deputy Mee was told the sanitized report would eventually end up in the media and that he could write a supplemental report that contained the redacted information -- a report that would be locked in the watch commander's safe.

Initially, a Sheriff's official told TMZ the arrest occurred "without incident." On Friday night, Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore told TMZ: "The L.A. County Sheriff's Department investigation into the arrest of Mr. Gibson on suspicion of driving under the influence will be complete and will contain every factual piece of evidence. Nothing will be sanitized. There was absolutely no favoritism shown to this suspect or any other. When this file is presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney, it will contain everything. Nothing will be left out."

On Saturday, Gibson released the following statement:

"After drinking alcohol on Thursday night, I did a number of things that were very wrong and for which I am ashamed. I drove a car when I should not have, and was stopped by the LA County Sheriffs. The arresting officer was just doing his job and I feel fortunate that I was apprehended before I caused injury to any other person. I acted like a person completely out of control when I was arrested, and said things that I do not believe to be true and which are despicable. I am deeply ashamed of everything I said. Also, I take this opportunity to apologize to the deputies involved for my belligerent behavior. They have always been there for me in my community and indeed probably saved me from myself. I disgraced myself and my family with my behavior and for that I am truly sorry. I have battled with the disease of alcoholism for all of my adult life and profoundly regret my horrific relapse. I apologize for any behavior unbecoming of me in my inebriated state and have already taken necessary steps to ensure my return to health."

6574. I believe him. He was drunk and I think he's remark was interperted by the officer as a personal attack The officer was dealing with a drunk. Mel Gibson is known for his religious(strong) beliefs. We all have our own poltical, reglious and race beliefs why nail him? Because he is famous and we tend to look ro people who are in the spotlight -GET OVER IT - HE WAS DRUNK and I'm sure he and his family or going through HELL that should make SOME of you HAPPY.

6575. Mel Gibson, in two words, is a drunken bigot. His dad, Gibson, Sr. ia a well known Hitler admirer, hate monger, and virulent anti-semite who denies the Holocaust. Mel, avowedly, admires his dad and respects/honors his views. Mel reveledin the making of the Passion film (with his own money) because it gave him a legitimate worldwide stage to vent his innate/strong anti-semitic feelings. As revealed, it was the 'Passion' according to Mel Gibson. He may possibly moderate his robust bent for alcohol, but despite all of his deceptive apologies, he will Always be a bigot.

6577. Maybe you need to remember that Israel was murdering innocent Lebanese babies at the time. I don't like them anymore either! Whenever anything happens they scream about the holocaust. Just like Bush has turned 9-11 to his advantage to screw the American people, those Jews use the holocaust. If America would only WAKE UP! Anytime Bush doesn't get his way and we start to wake up he screams '9-11!!!'. The Jews do the same.. 'HOLOCAUST>>>POOOR US!!. Maybe they ought to stay on the land stolen from others and handed to them and quit murdering Palis and Lebanese. Now call me a bigot, I DON'T CARE!

6578. I hope whoever "ELLIE" is that left her unforgiving comments reads this! By not accepting his apology and refusing to ever see his movies is an act of "hatred" which you "oppose" in your recent comments. So what you oppose, you are doing yourself. If you recall GOD said to drink of the wine but not to get drunk. Why? Because he knows that it destroys our true thoughts. It allows the demons to use our bodies as an unGodly tool. God can read our thoughts, but Satan in all of his power(limited)...can not-but he can make us do things when we are out of the will of the Lord. Remeber he was God's most precious Angle at one time. He gave him everything-his name Lucifer means "Light". How unfortunate is that--that the Angle of Light now brings Darkness to the World. And yes there are still demons around us, if we could see them I bet we would freak out! Someday all those mystery's will be revealed to us. But for now God sent Jesus Christ as a representation on how to treat others. To forgive and realize that we all sin, we can't help it, and that no sin is greater than another. I curse in traffic so bad sometimes and even while I am listening to my morning devotional. I so struggle like "Paul, John & Peter". Where they would say--why do i do things i wish not to do?? I am always in church on sunday morning begging for forgiveness. Not because i think i am so good, but i go to church to help remind that i am bad, and to try harder next week to treat the world like Jesus would. So to those of you reading this who do not believe in God or who are responding to Mel Gibson with hate and unforgiveness....let God work on him and his life, But remember God is also going to measure you someday in the same accordance you measured others. He is fair and just, He is God and can do what he pleases and we are no one to question that. One thing is for certain, we all will have to bow the knee to him. Either we do it now by our own choice and enjoy serving Him, or one day when we finally see Him and he commands you to your knees--but tells you to depart from HIM because He never knew you. It's like this...have you ever missed out on something-a special event or party where you so wish you would have went. That is what Hell is really like. Its about being stuck in a place that you can't leave, but you were sent an invitation to a wonderful eternal party but you let your other commitments keep you from going. You see other people you know-like on a bigscreen-that went to the party and you are so horrably sorry you didn't go with them. Those friends and other people that God has put in your path to help explain to you--don't want to hurt you, they want you to come have fun with them. But good fun not evil fun that will eventually hurt you. Although like Mel did...he did stumbled, as we all do, and thats ok, as long as we pick ourself back up and not allow the devil to keep us in the pit. We ask to be forgiven and try harder again. Just believe in something you can't see. That is an awesome act of faith! But don't kick others when they fall. I truly wish everyone to be in Heaven someday-so don't look down on me or scoff at me because i want to be like the guy during 9/11. When he found a stairwell that wasn't blocked, yelled to everyone on every floor as he descended-and held the door open for them so they could all escape. He didn't just run down on his own, saving himself only. **May the God of Peace and love and forgiveness wash the mud from your eyes today and pore out His blessings on you-my prayer-pamela davis, aiken southcarolina** DEVIL=LIVED

6579. I have been a Mel Gibson fan for many years and will continue to be so. I had a brother who was an alcoholic and when intoxicated he became a completely different person, almost like a Jeckle/Hyde. He even wanted to kill me during one of these episodes.I had said nothing to him to give him a reason.. I ran for my life while my husband held him back. I know from my experiences with alcoholics that they are not in control of what they may do or say. I have forgiven Mel for his out of control behavior and everyone else should too. Alcoholics are sick people and it is a terrible disease. I hope and pray that Mel will do something about his problem and be a good father and husband to his wife and children. It must be hell for them to have to live with his sickness. Good luck Mel

6580.
i think that people should see the whole picture about this situation.
do you really think that somebody who is an antisemit would be apologizing on tv, gave two statements only to save he's on persona. i don't think so. in fact, he, mel, has spoken personally to jewish lider to apologized. not only that he also has come clean about he's disease. I think that a real antisemit would'nt have don't that. If he's father is an antisemit, does't that make him an antisemit??? please people!!! even friends of him who happen to be jews have say that he is not an antisemit. How easy is to come and say: yeah, go to hell, Mel!!! instead of forgim him. Nobody should be judge like he has been, people has not been undertandable. Morons!, ignorants! who has never dealt whitn an alcoholic or a drougadict. All i can say is that mel is a great artist and a great person. you are in my prears.

6581. It's a shame that Mel Gibson doesn't personally know the Jesus he so beautifully portrayed in The Passion of Christ. Jesus would never approve of his lifestyle, language or behavior. My heart goes out to Mel Gibson. Mel, get acquainted with the Jesus who said, "Go and sin no more". The world may not forgive so easily but Jesus truly does.

6584. Originally written on July 29th, 2006:

Mel Gibson has proved himself to be a talented, complex, charismatic and accomplished actor and film maker. That being said, I have to admit I was more than disappointed to learn about this incident. Especially in view of the fact that Mr. Gibson was instrumental in helping fellow actor and friend Robert Downey Jr. (whose father and wife are Jewish) get back on his feet. I did not see Passion of the Christ, but I did hear a local radio talk show host describe it as ‘a snuff film’. Gibson apparently wanted to dramatize his vision of what he believed happened during the crucifixion. Not having seen the film nor was I present at the crucifixion myself, I cannot condone or condemn Gibson’s cinematic interpretation. However being Jewish I can comment on. In my own experiences, I do sincerely feel that anti-Semitism is now and has always been rampant. And I also believe that Mel Gibson’s father heavily influenced his viewpoint.

Gibson’s drunken behavior flies in the face of the fact that he went out of his way to help Robert with encouragement, caring and even a job at a time in Downey’s career when he needed it most. Many people for one reason or other harbor anti-Semitic feelings, however they do not put them into daily practice. Those people don’t worry me as much as the ones who conceal their true feelings and carry out underhanded things to perpetrate their views.

As a Jew and a reasonable person I don’t feel too wrongs make a right. Hating or rejecting Mel Gibson or his work will do little to erase these bitter feelings that have been produced from the simple fact that many people still believe that Jews killed Christ.

I can only speak for myself and if I encountered a man who walked on water, fed the hungry, preached love and understanding, and made the blind see again, I would revere him and never abandon him, standing idly by while he is tortured and killed.

Let he who is without sin, cast the first stone!
