Gibson's Anti-Semitic Tirade -- Alleged Cover Up

EXCLUSIVE: MEL GIBSONTMZ has learned that Mel Gibson went on a rampage when he was arrested Friday on suspicion of drunk driving, hurling religious epithets. TMZ has also learned that the Los Angeles County Sheriff's department had the initial report doctored to keep the real story under wraps.

TMZ has four pages of the original report prepared by the arresting officer in the case, L.A. County Sheriff's Deputy James Mee. According to the report, Gibson became agitated after he was stopped on Pacific Coast Highway and told he was to be detained for drunk driving Friday morning in Malibu. The actor began swearing uncontrollably. Gibson repeatedly said, "My life is f****d." Law enforcement sources say the deputy, worried that Gibson might become violent, told the actor that he was supposed to cuff him but would not, as long as Gibson cooperated. As the two stood next to the hood of the patrol car, the deputy asked Gibson to get inside. Deputy Mee then walked over to the passenger door and opened it. The report says Gibson then said, "I'm not going to get in your car," and bolted to his car. The deputy quickly subdued Gibson, cuffed him and put him inside the patrol car.

TMZ has learned that Deputy Mee audiotaped the entire exchange between himself and Gibson, from the time of the traffic stop to the time Gibson was put in the patrol car, and that the tape fully corroborates the written report.

Once inside the car, a source directly connected with the case says Gibson began banging himself against the seat. The report says Gibson told the deputy, "You mother f****r. I'm going to f*** you." The report also says "Gibson almost continually [sic] threatened me saying he 'owns Malibu' and will spend all of his money to 'get even' with me."

The report says Gibson then launched into a barrage of anti-Semitic statements: "F*****g Jews... The Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world." Gibson then asked the deputy, "Are you a Jew?"

The deputy became alarmed as Gibson's tirade escalated, and called ahead for a sergeant to meet them when they arrived at the station. When they arrived, a sergeant began videotaping Gibson, who noticed the camera and then said, "What the f*** do you think you're doing?"

A law enforcement source says Gibson then noticed another female sergeant and yelled, "What do you think you're looking at, sugar tits?"

We're told Gibson took two blood alcohol tests, which were videotaped, and continued saying how "f****d" he was and how he was going to "f***" Deputy Mee.

Gibson was put in a cell with handcuffs on. He said he needed to urinate, and after a few minutes tried manipulating his hands to unzip his pants. Sources say Deputy Mee thought Gibson was going to urinate on the floor of the booking cell and asked someone to take Gibson to the bathroom.

After leaving the bathroom, Gibson then demanded to make a phone call. He was taken to a pay phone and, when he didn't get a dial tone, we're told Gibson threw the receiver against the phone. Deputy Mee then warned Gibson that if he damaged the phone he could be charged with felony vandalism. We're told Gibson was then asked, and refused, to sign the necessary paperwork and was thrown in a detox cell.

Deputy Mee then wrote an eight-page report detailing Gibson's rampage and comments. Sources say the sergeant on duty felt it was too "inflammatory." A lieutenant and captain then got involved and calls were made to Sheriff's headquarters. Sources say Mee was told Gibson's comments would incite a lot of "Jewish hatred," that the situation in Israel was "way too inflammatory." It was mentioned several times that Gibson, who wrote, directed, and produced 2004's "The Passion of the Christ," had incited "anti-Jewish sentiment" and "For a drunk driving arrest, is this really worth all that?"

We're told Deputy Mee was then ordered to write another report, leaving out the incendiary comments and conduct. Sources say Deputy Mee was told the sanitized report would eventually end up in the media and that he could write a supplemental report that contained the redacted information -- a report that would be locked in the watch commander's safe.

Initially, a Sheriff's official told TMZ the arrest occurred "without incident." On Friday night, Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore told TMZ: "The L.A. County Sheriff's Department investigation into the arrest of Mr. Gibson on suspicion of driving under the influence will be complete and will contain every factual piece of evidence. Nothing will be sanitized. There was absolutely no favoritism shown to this suspect or any other. When this file is presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney, it will contain everything. Nothing will be left out."

On Saturday, Gibson released the following statement:

"After drinking alcohol on Thursday night, I did a number of things that were very wrong and for which I am ashamed. I drove a car when I should not have, and was stopped by the LA County Sheriffs. The arresting officer was just doing his job and I feel fortunate that I was apprehended before I caused injury to any other person. I acted like a person completely out of control when I was arrested, and said things that I do not believe to be true and which are despicable. I am deeply ashamed of everything I said. Also, I take this opportunity to apologize to the deputies involved for my belligerent behavior. They have always been there for me in my community and indeed probably saved me from myself. I disgraced myself and my family with my behavior and for that I am truly sorry. I have battled with the disease of alcoholism for all of my adult life and profoundly regret my horrific relapse. I apologize for any behavior unbecoming of me in my inebriated state and have already taken necessary steps to ensure my return to health."

6586. Hello Mel,
I do believe that the best place for Jewish is the North Pole.

6588. You people are a bunch of idiots!
I love Jahwe-ans and I support them. I'm even ready to fight for their true freedom.
But I love Truth. The very main essence of God is the Truth. They've rejected it once to protect their aging tradition. Now they do it again.
Mel Gibson told a historical truth. The Passion of Christ through Earth to Heaven would have never happened as it did, because the opposite would: The Kingdom of Heaven on Earth, -if it weren't for that truth.
A hyper moron said:
"... If you were drunk you should still know what your doing. I hope you get punished."
He is so confused. Since when do people get punished for what they say? Or would they?!!
How did the police get to know that he was driving drunked? (If not followed)
Since when does police go "taperecording' while they do traffic stopping's? First of all it's against the Law.
The police duty is to stop the drunken driver write him a ticket, park his car and finally call him a Cab. But never arrest him.
Why would Gibson state to an half-educated, half literate policeman that: "the Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world".
Well, most of them. In this situation, he would rather state that the police is behaving like GESTAPO did with citizens supporting Jews.
Eventhough, today they killed 36 children of our enemy. None of them killers got busted and none of them was drunk.
Anyway, they would all grow up to become terrorists, wouldn't they?
***Every true artist contains some breath of God. Gibson is one of them.
During his Passage, Christ says: "You see mother, I make all things new"
These few words are exact words Christ said as a human before his passion.
Where did he learn them from if not from that breath? Mel, you are an Artist. Don't let them people with earthly deeds thirst on your blood, that's what they're after. The world needs your Art. I hope for the best. -This was a classical setup! Take care, I'm afraid it might not be their last. Sometimes truth, is only the "truth" that people care about. We should all help Jews achieve their true freedom, but first thewy should start learning to love their neighbors too.

6589. Mel is just another right-wing nut job. He's just out of the closet now.

He makes a film that says more about how awful the jews were to jesus, but pretty much completely ignores jesus's message. This just confirms that he really was just telling it like he saw it in his Jesus Snuff flick. Amazing that 'Murikan "religious" folk will shell out millions to see their messiah tortured to death - a bunch of sadists.

6590. Everyone makes mistakes! There is not one single person on this earth who has said things out of line or blamed something on someone else for no other reason then they were different from themself. If you take a look a dreams, they are a jumble of information in our head floating around. While he was drunk, he let whatever was in his head at the time mix with other information and blurt out reprehensible comments! He has realized his error, has apologized and will take steps to help himself and those he has offended. If he wasn't in the public eye, it would be like any other incident in the lives of every day people.

In regards to the undocumented statement being believed true; what if they are? Human beings make errors, if they didn't we would all be poclaimed GODS!

As for him being a bigot, I feel sorry for the sickness his family and him have to endure. The fact that it contributed to his anit-semetic remarks is unfortunate, but again, alcohol impaires ones ability to think rationally.

While I acknowledge that Jewish people have had more than their fair share of genocide, stuggling, prejudice, etc, I also remember the history of African American slavery! None of it was right! If Mr. Gibson wants to make a movie about his beliefs, LET HIM! No one has to see it, believe it, or praise it. But there are those who share his vision. I don't know where I stand on the issue, but I accept his right to his belief. Wouldn't you want someone to accept yours?

AND making a film that upset the Jewish people of the world preceded this incident. All the hype about his film, led to his anti-semetic rumoring. If he made a film about the Pagan Gods, Buddah, and any other Godlike being, he would have insulted another group of people in the world and other rumors would be spinning while we all kept him under a microscope waiting for him do something against THAT particular ethnic group! Get a grip people!

6591. Just think how different things would be if he were a Kennedy. He could hit something or kill someone. The police would drive him home, tuck him in and kiss him goodnight.
His comments were disgusting but he's not the first person to do something shameful.

6592. In spite of the glaring anti-semitism, how can one reduce Gibson to a mere racist epithet? The man's a self admitted alcoholic and should be viewed first with that handicap in mind. It's a rough disease and all manner of foul mouthed slander can betray the senses and sensitivity of those vulnerable to their own potentially hopeless addiction.

Better still, forget Mel. I don't know if Gibson is any more anti-Semitic than some Jewish people are anti-Christian. What I do know, is that in the Middle East at this very moment, an Israeli David is taking a deadly stand against the bullying Middle Eastern Terrorist state Goliahs. My heart goes out to Israel, having struggled as a nation for so many decades, with so many deaths, and still, no peace, no clear preservation.

6593. Just weighin' in…

I don't know anyone on this planet that hasn't at one time or another said some things, or ridiculous remarks they'd wished they could take back. Heck, if I had the option of taking back everything I wished I wouldn't have said, I'd probably have Mel Gibson's money.

People get a grip, please! This man is human. This man has also contributed more of his life to promote fun, adventure, history, culture, science, and theology at none other than his own expense.

Working hard in one's field often brings success. Success for folks in the entertainment industry brings a lot of stress. Do the math here. Mr. Gibson, definitely got drunk. When most of us get plastered we say and do a lot of foolish things we (hopefully) don't remember and most certainly if we do remember then we are embarrassed and most often humiliated.

I will not condone anyone—no matter how much they have contributed to society—for driving drunk. Mel Gibson made a mistake—a very costly one at that. However, he has made constant attempts at rectifying this situation. I believe in forgiveness.

One last thing…what kind of dignity does the LA Sheriffs Department have by making audio tapes readily available to the press? Every one knows we talk a lot of trash when we drink albeit, mumbling, and bumbling, slobbering words of nonsense. Making these statements public through the press is a worse crime than getting drunk.

He or she who is without sin, throw the first stone.

6594. Look there's no point in trying to prove he didn't do it okay. He even apoligized for what he did. It's not right for him to go and say those things about Jews, but je was drunk. And if those are his thoughts on the subject then leave them be. Because he can have his own opinion, and there is nothing you cajn do about it. He is just like evryone else, he has his own choices. And be them wrong through your eyes, he is still the same person he was before. And just because he said something like this shouldn't make you look at him as less of an actor. He's a good actor, he just made a bad choice in my opinion.

6595. I find it rather unfortunate that such a talented individual has a drinking problem & sincerely hope that he seeks help for it. Some people do undergo a complete personality change when they are intoxicated. I do know, having been raised in a traditional pre-Vatican II Catholic family, that there is a very strong tendency towards anti-semitism. Ironically, I am a convert to Judaism. So I have personal experience of both sides. Mel's "Passion" was a beautifully done movie, despite it's obvious inaccuracies. Using the visions of a Catholic mystic (Anne Catherine Emerich) as his source, rather than the actual gospels, was an exceedingly poor choice on his part. As a Jew, I am of course insulted by the blame placed upon the Jewish people by the perspective portrayed in his movie. If he truly believes what he has indicated, then I must feel sorry for him as a person & hope that one day he will be inspired to actually research the subject using legitimate, scholarly sources. I would like to commend him for his talents, reproach him for his ignorance & negative opinions, & pray that he gets whatever kind of help he needs to solve his personal problems. As for the DUI charge, he should be treated no differently than anyone else, & I hope he will be encouraged to seek substance abuse assistance &/or counseling.

6596. Let's not be soo critical and hard on this...we all have done and said bad things that we don't really feel or believe, right?

Let's give the guy a break...and let's try to not be so impartial.

Also, let's take into acount that he already admitted he was VERY wrong...and was he ever!

6598. Let me first say that I am a half-Jew. I feel terrible for Mr. Gibson. Clearly, a combination of factors have driven him to his anti-semitic outburst. First, there is the pressure of having too much money. Then there is the endless stress of suppressing his latent homosexuality - and let me tell you, as a bisexual person of substantial girth, I feel Mel should come out of the closet and behave like a man. Finally, there is his total lack of talent and the fact that he is old and has become a caricature of himself. How could anyone bear such life ending stress?
