Gibson's Anti-Semitic Tirade -- Alleged Cover Up

EXCLUSIVE: MEL GIBSONTMZ has learned that Mel Gibson went on a rampage when he was arrested Friday on suspicion of drunk driving, hurling religious epithets. TMZ has also learned that the Los Angeles County Sheriff's department had the initial report doctored to keep the real story under wraps.

TMZ has four pages of the original report prepared by the arresting officer in the case, L.A. County Sheriff's Deputy James Mee. According to the report, Gibson became agitated after he was stopped on Pacific Coast Highway and told he was to be detained for drunk driving Friday morning in Malibu. The actor began swearing uncontrollably. Gibson repeatedly said, "My life is f****d." Law enforcement sources say the deputy, worried that Gibson might become violent, told the actor that he was supposed to cuff him but would not, as long as Gibson cooperated. As the two stood next to the hood of the patrol car, the deputy asked Gibson to get inside. Deputy Mee then walked over to the passenger door and opened it. The report says Gibson then said, "I'm not going to get in your car," and bolted to his car. The deputy quickly subdued Gibson, cuffed him and put him inside the patrol car.

TMZ has learned that Deputy Mee audiotaped the entire exchange between himself and Gibson, from the time of the traffic stop to the time Gibson was put in the patrol car, and that the tape fully corroborates the written report.

Once inside the car, a source directly connected with the case says Gibson began banging himself against the seat. The report says Gibson told the deputy, "You mother f****r. I'm going to f*** you." The report also says "Gibson almost continually [sic] threatened me saying he 'owns Malibu' and will spend all of his money to 'get even' with me."

The report says Gibson then launched into a barrage of anti-Semitic statements: "F*****g Jews... The Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world." Gibson then asked the deputy, "Are you a Jew?"

The deputy became alarmed as Gibson's tirade escalated, and called ahead for a sergeant to meet them when they arrived at the station. When they arrived, a sergeant began videotaping Gibson, who noticed the camera and then said, "What the f*** do you think you're doing?"

A law enforcement source says Gibson then noticed another female sergeant and yelled, "What do you think you're looking at, sugar tits?"

We're told Gibson took two blood alcohol tests, which were videotaped, and continued saying how "f****d" he was and how he was going to "f***" Deputy Mee.

Gibson was put in a cell with handcuffs on. He said he needed to urinate, and after a few minutes tried manipulating his hands to unzip his pants. Sources say Deputy Mee thought Gibson was going to urinate on the floor of the booking cell and asked someone to take Gibson to the bathroom.

After leaving the bathroom, Gibson then demanded to make a phone call. He was taken to a pay phone and, when he didn't get a dial tone, we're told Gibson threw the receiver against the phone. Deputy Mee then warned Gibson that if he damaged the phone he could be charged with felony vandalism. We're told Gibson was then asked, and refused, to sign the necessary paperwork and was thrown in a detox cell.

Deputy Mee then wrote an eight-page report detailing Gibson's rampage and comments. Sources say the sergeant on duty felt it was too "inflammatory." A lieutenant and captain then got involved and calls were made to Sheriff's headquarters. Sources say Mee was told Gibson's comments would incite a lot of "Jewish hatred," that the situation in Israel was "way too inflammatory." It was mentioned several times that Gibson, who wrote, directed, and produced 2004's "The Passion of the Christ," had incited "anti-Jewish sentiment" and "For a drunk driving arrest, is this really worth all that?"

We're told Deputy Mee was then ordered to write another report, leaving out the incendiary comments and conduct. Sources say Deputy Mee was told the sanitized report would eventually end up in the media and that he could write a supplemental report that contained the redacted information -- a report that would be locked in the watch commander's safe.

Initially, a Sheriff's official told TMZ the arrest occurred "without incident." On Friday night, Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore told TMZ: "The L.A. County Sheriff's Department investigation into the arrest of Mr. Gibson on suspicion of driving under the influence will be complete and will contain every factual piece of evidence. Nothing will be sanitized. There was absolutely no favoritism shown to this suspect or any other. When this file is presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney, it will contain everything. Nothing will be left out."

On Saturday, Gibson released the following statement:

"After drinking alcohol on Thursday night, I did a number of things that were very wrong and for which I am ashamed. I drove a car when I should not have, and was stopped by the LA County Sheriffs. The arresting officer was just doing his job and I feel fortunate that I was apprehended before I caused injury to any other person. I acted like a person completely out of control when I was arrested, and said things that I do not believe to be true and which are despicable. I am deeply ashamed of everything I said. Also, I take this opportunity to apologize to the deputies involved for my belligerent behavior. They have always been there for me in my community and indeed probably saved me from myself. I disgraced myself and my family with my behavior and for that I am truly sorry. I have battled with the disease of alcoholism for all of my adult life and profoundly regret my horrific relapse. I apologize for any behavior unbecoming of me in my inebriated state and have already taken necessary steps to ensure my return to health."

94. Mr. Gibson was just as influenced by whatever substance he was on as any of the rest of us are. The fact that some unflattering this may or may not have been said is only proof that people in this state say, do, and act in way's other than their normal behavior!. There is an organization which begins with the first two letters of our alphebet and can make you understand this quite well. There are also many doctors and phsychologist's who have made it their life's work trying to fix it and cant. I pray we will treat Mr. Gibson just as humanley as we ourselves want to be treated when we are so influenced. A Friend Of Bills

95. I too am shocked at Mel. I thought he was making a step in the right direction making a true account of the Christ story. Now I believe he did it to exploit the jews. It was the jewish leaders of that time not the overall Jews who wanted Jesus dead. Jesus had many followers and believers. In the end it was the Roman Empire who did him in, but this was all according to God's greater plan for the salvation of the world. Maybe through this Mel will see the error of his ways and take a second look at his masterpiece The Passion of The Christ.

96. HELLO?!?!?! Why the fuck did TMZ fail to recognize that it was stated 'Gibson then tried to escape', and that he made it all the way to his 'drivers door'? Now that's funny.

97. I believe Mel Gibson is just very upset about what is going on in this world. People who are very good people are upset and tired of all the evil going on in this world. The comment about Jews was taken out of context. He was very drunk and very upset about everything. He was not speaking with all his right mind. I am a tradtional Catholic. So is Mel Gibson. Yes Jesus was Jewish. But that is not his true religion. Besides his own people cruxified him. The jewish race that exits today is not the same race that exited when Jesus was alive. The Jews today do not accept Jesus Christ as their Savior. They do not even believe him to be the son of God or that he even lived on this earth. They are still actually waiting for the Christ to come down on earth. When you actually think about it, it is very sad. For they are going to never know the Son of God, as God. They are only going to know him as a great prophet. Anyway, I believe things were taking out of context, because Mel Gibson is very religous man. He has done a great deal of good in this world. You never hear anything negative about him in the news. He is human, therefore, subject to make mistakes. You people who judge other people, remember you are human, you make mistakes, too. Remember, Jesus said, "Let him who is without sin among you be the first to cast a stone." He also said, " As you are judging, so will you be judge." Remeber you are suppose to be light for people in this world not darkness. Also do not believe everything you here.

99. I've been a fan of Harvey (Levin) since he covered the OJ case on KCBS, but this story has some glaring holes in it even a Harvey-fan like me can't miss:

In the original written report, Mel apparently resisted arrest, yet he was only arrested on suspicion of drunk driving. Why was he not charged w/resisting arrest?

He also made threats against Mee, but wasn't charged w/threatening a police officer. Why?

"Sources say Mee was told Gibson's comments would incite a lot of "Jewish hatred," that the situation in Israel was "way too inflammatory." " They supposedly redacted his anti-Semitic comments b/c if they were made public they might 'incite a lot of Jewish hatred'? WTF? Did they honestly think some kind of 'Gibson's army' would rise up & start a pogrom? And, even if that made sense (& it doesn't), why did they also redact the insults he made towards the cops, his banging his head against the seat, his repeatedly saying 'My life is f*cked', etc & instead say that he cooperated w/the police?

Also, the original written report is, according to TMZ, 8 pages long. So where are the other 4 pages?

And what allegedly took place to cause Gibson to switch from saying things like 'My life is f*cked' & telling Mee how he was going to get even w/him to suddently go on an anti-Semitic rant? Is that in one of the missing pages of the police report?

It doesn't add up...

100. Mel Gibson is a mental idiot. Probably he was the worst student in the school if he thought that all wars in the world were started by Jews. Maybe if he learn history he would know that WWI and WWII were started by his beloved Christians. Shame on You Mel!
The people like Mel Gibson are very dangerous. He is so self absorbed and so stupid that he thinks he own this world. People like Mel usually end up in jail or kill themselves. There is no excuse to be drunk and drive and it doesn't matter what he said he still a criminal who put a people life in jeopardy. His comments about Jews and police just show that this guy have a mentality of teenager or alcohol eat his brain up. I really sorry for his wife and kids. Even all money in the world can't cover that their father and husband is a mental idiot who humiliate himself in front of millions..

103. Mel Gibson makes me sick. I used to love him. That was until he made that anti-Jewish piece of sh*t, "Passion of the Christ". Oh, yeah, Jesus was Jewish. Sexist, Holocaust-denying pr*ck. Rot in hell.

104. This is so stupid! His supposed comments made NO SENSE and were completely out of context of the conversation. I don't believe it one little bit! I think this is some "created" bullcrap to smear Gibson. I think the truth is he was stopped for a DUI and I think he probably did cuss the cop out, but I highly doubt that he said anything about Jews. It's just rediculous and doesn't make a bit of sense in conjuction with the conversation.

105. Your opinions: Mel, sorry about your experience, Humans, well it happens, to common people, wives of the deputies, and "yes" the people, who entertain everyone, like you! I wonder, if, those "deputies" will have the courage, or even the guts, to say, they have never seen, watched or enjoyed your movies, which I know for a fact, "some" deputies" will try to get something from an indivudual for their own gain! I know, I was also picked up for a DUI, in August of the year, 2002! I at that time, was married, to not only a Los Angeles County Deputy, "but" for the last 11 years, he was and is, SWAT! So, from experience, even though, I had out patient surgery, on that day, he would not do the driving to my surgery as well, pick me up! So, that's my story. Believe it or not, and "Yes", it was in the city of Arcadia, which at the time, I was never officially charged, until 7 months later, since it was the easy the way out for him, SWATTY MAN, to set me up for my new future, today, "divorce" I had to actually, walk in, to the Arcadia P.D. get my finger prints, pictures, and after that, I left with my friend. Cover up, (?) Well, I am a 42 soccer "mom" who's husbands job, had that, "magic of the pencil" TRICK, and in October, 14, 2004, there was a warrant, even though, it just happened to come out that morning, and when my children were to be coming home, at the exact time, and it was getting late, I called our cities Police Dept. of La Verne, and i without knowing, walked into my own warrant! "Thank god" my select "few" good officers, helped me, and also did a seperate report, on him, since he was violating all court orders, even though, they found out, to late, "they" didn't want to, "but" had no choice, to take me in. At least they found out, and made sure, I would hopefully, by wearing a specific type of Swat, T-shirt, which in turn would be in my best interest, as well as safety! The exact officers, are still helping me with other issues. He knew, what was going to happen, so at least, I had a few, "good cops" to help me, from my own city, of "La Verne". They actually took the time, to help me, even though they didn't want to do what they had to do,"but" had no choice, by the time, they arrived at my home. Me, not having the knowledge, (I had never seen) the inside of a city, or a county jail, until age 40. It did helped me, with a process I knew nothing about. So, I wore the T-Shirt, which had a logo, as well it was a "gift" with my name on it, from him, Swatty, so maybe, that would keep me out of population, whatever that meant. Hm? Cover up(?).
I would say, "yes", since I was very green to all of this, and now, realize, the power, of the "gun and badge" and how they can hurt people, no matter at what costs, for their own gain. Mel, good luck to you! it's costly, meaning, money, or it was for me, for my first DUI, $40,000.00. (?) Two, long days, locked in a crowded cell, from jail to jail until I finally got to my final destination, in Alhambra, over 24 hours later. to wait, to talk to a judge, and to be released, with not knowing, how I was going to even get home. It's just again, "the magic of the pencil" as they say. Take care. Kimmer
