Check Mate For Sheriff's in Gibson Case

Let me borrow a line from Mel Gibson's play book -- The L.A. County Sheriff's Department is f****d."

The Department has been caught in a huge lie that they now can't undo. My sources say the Sheriff's officials are scrambling at this very moment, trying to figure out what to do and the Sheriff himself, Lee Baca, has been involved from the outset (I'll explain more about this on Monday).

Here's the problem. The deputy who arrested Mel Gibson wrote an eight page report detailing Gibson's rants and aggressive conduct, but officials ordered the arresting deputy to sanitize his report, eliminating the four pages TMZ has posted on the web site. The sanitized report was signed and became the party line that the arrest occurred "without incident." That is a blatant lie -- a lie the Sheriff's department never thought would be exposed.

When I first called a Sheriff's spokesman to comment on the story we were about to publish, he told me I was "wrong" and the story was "erroneous." When he said that, I had plenty of information but I was not in physical possession of the four phantom pages.

When I finally got the documents and called the spokesman back, his response changed. He said when the case is presented to the D.A. it will have all the information about the case. Do you see how that begs the question? Of course, now it will have all the information because we exposed the Sheriff and Mel Gibson.

This was a cover up and there's no way of getting around it. The Sheriff said it happened "without incident" and that's just a blatant lie. Now there's an official, signed report that does not have the information TMZ has published, so something's rotten in Denmark.

As far as I know, the arresting deputy has not even re-written the information in this new "supplemental report" that for some reason was supposed to be locked in the watch commander's safe.

The Sheriff didn't get this sloppy overnight. Clearly many celebrities must have gone where Mel Gibson did on Friday. We have more information that we will publish on Monday, but The L.A. County Sheriff's Department must be investigated.

31. Isn't filing a false public record a felony under Government Code section 6201? I believe the Penal Code also covers the causing of filing false records under section 115, but 6201 sure seems to apply to those in the S.O. Dept. who signed the report, caused it to be filed, and aided in the pulling of the four pages. It is more than an unfortunate incident, remove the celebrity factor for a moment, S.O. public officials, according to the TMZ story, caused the filing of a false public record.

34. Mr. Levin, I hope if you are Jewish or Catholic (or maybe you can claim and celebrate both as I do) have the "gift" of self-regulation which is aptly known as"Guilt." You need to "self-regulate." I am worried about your emotional, physical, and spiritual health." Please do not drink and drive. You could actually do something foolish, but fortunately if you did not hurt anyone but yourself, you could be forgiven by those who saw courage in you, and start fresh. I will light a candle in Church for you.

35. Well, well, well, it would seem Mel Gibson, Dave Sanders (comment #8), Joseph Goebbels, Hutton Gibson, Nasrallah, President "A" (Iran), one billion Muslims, American and foreign academia, and the resurgent neo-Nazis can all fit in the same jack-boots. Well, maybe not jack-boots. Perhaps they should wear a female burkha, since it is apparent the aforementioned are testosterone-challenged EU-loving "weenies." All of you who wish to come to Mel's aid, be my guest. However, the last time I checked with those who treat alcoholism, Gibson's tirade is quite representative of his true feelings/thoughts/beliefs concerning Jews. Repent now, Mel-while you still have a chance. G-d does not take lightly the attacks on the branch into which you were supposedly grafted.

36. I am a retired deputy with about 30 years of law enforcement experience. The supervisors who ordered the sanitized report are nitwits. If Mel Gibson or any other celebrity makes an ass of themselves it is not the job of the police to make them look better. Let Gibson or anyone in similar circumstances suffer the consequences of their actions and their statements. Then maybe they will think twice about flouting their perceived power and influence in the future. (I won't hold my breath!) The only thing I would question about Gibson's alleged anti-semitic remarks would be "are they relevant to the DUI investigation?" If not the remarks probably don't belong in the report any more than whether he put on clean underwear that morning. If/when the case gets to court the defense attorney is probably going to move the remarks be barred from evidence as irrelevant and inflamatory and there is a good probability the judge will agree. But now the defense attorney has been given excellent evidence by the Sheriff Dept that its officers are NOT telling the WHOLE truth as they are sworn to do. Politics including celebrity politics do not make for effective law enforcement. Don S.

37. Give it a rest, already! Reporter's (and that's being nice) need to leave celebs alone. They are people, just like the rest of us. So, he backslid, he got caught, acted like a fool, apologized and will go to court for his misdeeds and will do his punishment. Just like millions before him and, I'm sure, millions after. I have a great respect for this man....everyone seems to hate him after his awesome movie, "The Passion of the Christ". Yes, I'm disappointed, but I still admire the guy. Remember..."let he who is without sin cast the first stone"!

38. The most significant contributing factor to this entire fiasco is the incredible status given to the likes of Mel Gibson by the general public. He, like many in Hollywood is a talented actor/director and nothing more. Why his statements or opinions should be of any greater value than anybody else in this country is beyond me, except that many in the general public can't distinguish between fiction and reality.

Wise up America. Hollywood does not dictate foreign policy and the sooner everybody figures that out the sooner the Mel Gibsons of the world will be treated more like an average human being.

39. Driving impaired is what put Mel in the spotlight. Did he receive CELEBRITY FAVORTISM, YOU BET HE DID. Any citizen arrested is to be handcuffed when transported to the station, and to make it worse he was offered the passenger seat ! The Sheriffs Dept should be consistant with any criminal booking.
Mel's stupid drunken comments show money and talent do not translate to common sense. He should pay like any other drunk driver. Ya had a good run Mel, time to to retire down under.

40. Mel is under attack by the Enemy (and I don't mean the Sheriff). His movie on Christ made a major impact in a lot of lives and the Prince of Darkness can't stand it when people come to Christ. Just imagine the evil that Mel was speaking against the deputy as iff it were Satan saying it to Mel. "I'm going to ruin your life!"

I hope Mel doesn't mean what he's saying about the Jews. Jesus was born from the Jewish Lineage of King David and when he returns, he will save the remnant Jews. Mel seems very confused and distressed. And there is only one cure for his sickness. He needs Jesus.

41. I'm sorry. Mel was arrested for DUI, not for making inappropriate statements. His demeanor should only be included as it relates to the charges. The Deputy was making way too much out of it if he felt obligated to write an eight page report, which would normally only consist of maybe 2-3 pages. If Mel did make the comments, only a fraction of them may be allowed in court to show his behavior. The tabloids obviously have other motives. The supervisor was correct in having the Deputy amend the report to include ONLY that which would support the charges. It's not a matter of changing something that would benefit Mel, it's a matter of NOT including something inappropriate simply to appease the media. Having been in law enforcement for 30 years, and a supervisor for the last 5 years, I can see where the media would like to go with this....

42. Who cares what a drunk man says? Is it standard procedure for an arrest report to contain all the rantings of (for instance) a drunk homeless man? My guess is 'No', so why should this report contain Gibson's rantings? G's words are of no more import than the words of the aforementioned homeless man. Unless of course, the unenlightened make them so!!

43. First thing's first. TMZ, without the slightest level of doubt in my mind, is more caniving than the news team on Mr. Deeds. I wouldn't be even the least bit surprised to find out on Monday that 4 of those pages were scanned, then copied, then pasted, then attached to TMZ, and sent off to the trustworthy folk at AOL in hopes that their so desperately craved wealth has finally arrived and their destiny fulfilled. I mean sending a pretty little girl in disguise like Wynonna did in Mr. Deeds is one thing, but this? Don't you guys think that's just a bit over the top?The comments where Gibson is telling the police officer that he's going to "f*** him?...or how about the "I own f***ing malibu. I will get even!" How did you not see this as strikingly unessassary before publishing it? It's almost as if you're blatantly telling everyone that reads the article that Mel Gibson went to jail for driving drunk, and when you felt the juice level rising up to the top of the cup and couldn't resist throwing some bull**** propoganda in the mix in a weak attempt for a raise and a quick backround TV shot.

TMZ needs to hear this EXCLUSIVE!!!! This garbage team of low life producers and authors just got ran out of the business. I know it was juice and the editor has a friend who has a brother who works at the station and figured he could make it big with such a controversial article. But once Mel sues that a** you'll be out of a job, and probably locked up following this trial when the judge gets a good close look at all those little crooked curves and swirves where "Super-Editor" copied and pasted hand writing that obviously was in sharp contrast to the first two pages. OOPS! Sorry big boys, but you might want to start considering taking up another profession right about now because this one's obviously not quite doing the trick! Ewww I can't wait until Monday! Who wrote this article by the way? Horriffic style of writing my main man with the plan has got going on over there. Good Luck In Life Guys!! I can see we're already off to a great start thus far!!

44. Whose to say the police didn't make all this up for some publicity and celebrity rank themselves? How can we be absolutely sure what is being published on this site is the truth and not made up? Why can't celebrities have private lives? And we all know how the papparazzi behave, now don't we? Do we have nothing better to do with our own lives than to follow the celebrities like little puppies? We all have our own opinions of different religions, cultures, people; every one of us does-celebrity or non-celebrity.

45. Wow, J.Q. and Dave Sanders, you are both nuts. The Jews aren't "blind" to anything. That would be the Christians, who believe in a false messiah. Do some research, and it's not hard to discover that Jesus wasn't the promised Hebrew messiah. And Dave, you're blaming 9/11 on the Jews? How stupid can you be? 9/11 happened because Muslim extremists want everyone to believe just like them, and want every Jew on earth to be a dead Jew. Get a clue, Dude.
