Check Mate For Sheriff's in Gibson Case

Let me borrow a line from Mel Gibson's play book -- The L.A. County Sheriff's Department is f****d."

The Department has been caught in a huge lie that they now can't undo. My sources say the Sheriff's officials are scrambling at this very moment, trying to figure out what to do and the Sheriff himself, Lee Baca, has been involved from the outset (I'll explain more about this on Monday).

Here's the problem. The deputy who arrested Mel Gibson wrote an eight page report detailing Gibson's rants and aggressive conduct, but officials ordered the arresting deputy to sanitize his report, eliminating the four pages TMZ has posted on the web site. The sanitized report was signed and became the party line that the arrest occurred "without incident." That is a blatant lie -- a lie the Sheriff's department never thought would be exposed.

When I first called a Sheriff's spokesman to comment on the story we were about to publish, he told me I was "wrong" and the story was "erroneous." When he said that, I had plenty of information but I was not in physical possession of the four phantom pages.

When I finally got the documents and called the spokesman back, his response changed. He said when the case is presented to the D.A. it will have all the information about the case. Do you see how that begs the question? Of course, now it will have all the information because we exposed the Sheriff and Mel Gibson.

This was a cover up and there's no way of getting around it. The Sheriff said it happened "without incident" and that's just a blatant lie. Now there's an official, signed report that does not have the information TMZ has published, so something's rotten in Denmark.

As far as I know, the arresting deputy has not even re-written the information in this new "supplemental report" that for some reason was supposed to be locked in the watch commander's safe.

The Sheriff didn't get this sloppy overnight. Clearly many celebrities must have gone where Mel Gibson did on Friday. We have more information that we will publish on Monday, but The L.A. County Sheriff's Department must be investigated.

61. It’s really funny that people rush to Mel’s defense by claiming that the editors of TMZ have some sort of vendetta against him. Hello, this is a site that reports equally on the public mishaps of ALL celebrities. Just because some of you may idolize Mel Gibson for his supposedly spiritual movie doesn’t make him above the law, or not worthy of discussion. It is most certainly newsworthy if a celebrity of Mel’s magnitude goes on a clearly anti-Semitic rant. And it is definitely newsworthy if the police try to cover it up. The officer felt it was relevant to the report, because it shows his state of mind. And I’m sorry, but if you’re a celebrity harboring these kind of ridiculous ideas, you should come right out and say them, and stand by them, rather than waiting to get drunk and then venting on an officer.

By the way, those of you who are slamming TMZ, for what they do - why are you even reading it? And then taking the time to post responses? Hypocrisy much? I guess it’s OK as long as your favorite celebrity doesn’t get caught.

And another thing. Let’s try and differentiate between Israel and the Jews. Everyone talks about them as if they are the same thing. FYI there are many different opinions in the Jewish community about the actions of the state of Israel. Let’s not make a discussion about an egomaniacal celebrity and his clearly anti-Semitic opinions into a larger (and necessarily more complex) discussion about Israel and Hezbollah. That’s really a bit of a stretch. And those of you trying to quote the bible in defense of Mel, well, you’ve got bigger issues than TMZ.

To say that the media in general, and Harvey/TMZ in particular are part of some biased (namely Jewish) attempt to slam Mel Gibson would be laughable if it weren’t so retarded, and offensive.

62. Here's my take. LAPD/LA Sheriff Dept has always covered up for celebs to their best ability. This case rips a huge gaping hole that lets the light of truth shine onto the secretive ways that these departments handle celebs. Assuming this incident causes certain politicians or lawyers to investigate these departments, you will see one huge politically embarassing mess that will show just how corrupt these departments are by giving special treatment to high powered people in L.A. Question is, will this scenario unfold? If so, it will be very very interesting. But, as everyone thought Anthony Pellicano would cause a huge stink in Hollywood, nothing has yet happened. He's not going to talk. They supposedly can't decrypt his info. Or maybe certain people put the squash on his case because it would cause a lot of embarassement for a lot of high powered people in LA and that just wouldn't be good for the city.

63. I can only hope that Mel's cellmate is a Jew with an enormous, circumsized c*** with which he f**** good old Mel right up his self-righteous, anti-Semitic ass.

64. Give Mel Gibson a break. He may have given his Life to Christ.....but hey, name one person on this planet who is not "Human". Being human means, at times, you are going to do "crazy things". I do not believe Mel Gibson was malicious in any act. He is probably under much pressure...and just needed to "let off some steam". Every human being needs to given the lee-way...to "let off some steam".
We are ALL mere human beings on this Earth. Good grief, Mel Gibson is just as human...with faults & shortcomings...as the rest of us. Every one of us makes mistakes!!

65. To the people who think he got special treatment for being a celebrity, I would point out that he got arrested and processed. If he were really getting special treatment, the officer would have been given him a warning, called a cab for him and sent him home.

66. Thank GOD Mel didn't kill anyone while driving drunk! Too many of us have suffered at the hands of drunk drivers and what are we really doing about it?
Maybe Mel's next mission in life will be to share his struggle with alcoholism and mental disorders in a passionate and life-changing way. His ugliness in thought , word and actions demonstrates the degree of his sickness. He is not alone with his struggles and demons. How about the rest of us? Are we being responsible with our drinking, drugging, and handling of our own affairs in life?
If not, what are we really doing about it?

67. The sad truth inherent in this Mel Gibson story is that alcohol has a tendency
to bring out the innate inner feelings of people and make them more overtly
picturable....i.e., Mr. Gibson is at heart, anti-Semitic....period, bingo, end of
story. Guess what, he's an American, in America, and is entitled to his
set of opinions. What is offensive is his B.S. that, in fact, he is not anti-Semitic.
He should have the courage to say outloud what he allegedly said to the
L.A. Sheriff's deputy. OK Mel...you hate the Jews. Say it.

68. So what was in the "sanitized" report? What were they going to do with the videotapes of the blood alcohol tests? Did they intend to charge him with dui? When did you originally call? When did you get the four pages? When did you call back? When did Mr. Gibson release his statement and apology? By saying "without incident" is a blatant lie, are you saying there was an "incident?" Was he a potty mouth? Usually the drunk tell the cops if they didn't have guns he'd whip all their asses. I've been bored enough to watch Cops and see what happens with dui arrests of agitated drunks. It sounds like a typical obnoxious drunken driving episode except for the name of the suspect. No cops with bite marks, bloody noses, no Rodney King beating, just some pathetic raving by a drunk. Big whoop. You are right that they are revising and editing the reports for reasons other than law enforcement and they should be called on that, especially if they practice special treatment for celebrities. You should probably know that police reports all over the country are approved by higher-ups and sometimes sent back for revision and sometimes the revisions are done by the supervisor him/herself. It looks like you are confusing newsworthy gossip with the elements of a crime. The police report must cover the elements of the crime. Unless they intend to charge him with potty mouth, prejudice, braggadocio, and anti-semitism, all the talk and banging the telephone are entirely optional. If it was some nobody obnoxious drunk, dui, mouthing off about (insert minority group here), telling the cops how sorry they'd be if they didn't overlook this, etc, would you expect a federal case to be made about his ravings? This quandary comes up every time the mayor, Rush Limbaugh, a Kennedy, etc gets arrested. If the cops go after them tooth and nail are they giving them extra trouble because of their celebrity status? Is that not as bad, but similar to sweeping it under the carpet? This is all very interesting and such a waste of time.

69. Mr. Gibson should run for President. We could yous a red blooded American with good family values to straighten out the US of A, and to keep it on the right path in our country and overseas, please.....pass the peas.
Maybe he could start in the White House as " Director of Protocol" or work in the new "Ministry of Information" ? There's always more room for Opus Dei staff in this administration.

70. I'm ashamed that I ever thought of Mel Gibson as a shrunk hunk. Now the truth is out...he's nothing more than a stinking anti-semitic drunk!

71. I worked for over 32 years reading arrest reports by L. A. County Sheriff's and LAPD; many times I just knew instinctly that an arrest report was falsified or
"santizied" so that hopefully someone would be convicted. The way of the world is we are all human, and God help us to do what is right when the time comes.
God is watching and we all reap what we sow, sooner or later. L. A. County Sheriff's Department should be investigated, starting from the top.

72. Mel Gibson is not above the law. Law enforcement lies. So, what's the news there? What sickens me is that quite a few folks are circling the wagons around the drunk-driving idiot just because he made a movie about Jesus. It's just by the grace of God that he didn't kill someone by his reckless behavior. I remember a time when the song lyrics "They will know we are Christians by our love..." meant a great deal. Now, thanks to the hypocrisy of Mr. Gibson and the religious right (ie. Bush, Delay, et al) - Christianity is synonymous with political extremism. Mel Gibson showed his true colors to that police officer. I hope he is truly sorry for his actions and will learn from them.

73. Allow me to comment on this episode. First Mr. Gibson, if you may by chance read this, you should remember that as an actor and director of some of the most entertaining films, what you say and do will be seen by many, including our youth. Do you really want to be seen as the awful person you demonstrated yourself to be? Personnally, I thought you were a very religous and caring man, but all of that Cathloic bullsh*t you spread during the "Passion" publicity was just another Catholic front to conceal how you felt about Jews. F*CK YOU MEL!!!! Dave Sanders. where did you learn your history? How about your recent world events? The reason Al-Quaida struck at the US wasn't just because the Israeli's occupy their former homeland, but because the US used the Afghanistan-USSR war to fight communism spread to the Middle East. The US trained and armed the mujihideen (including Osama bin-Laden) to fight that war. When it was all over, Washington turned their back after promising to rebuild the nation. Saddam Hussein on the other hand, invaded another Arab country for their riches and then tried to pull Israel into the war by firing SCUD missiles into the country. I could go on and on and will later, but I have to go to work defending my country Mr. Sanders. Unfortunately, I have to defend fools like you and Mr. Gibson, who can't even get their world history correct.

75. Bottom line,
I will never watch another Mel Gibson film and just threw away 5 Mel Gibson DVD's . The only way to respond that counts to people like that are with my wallet.
Way to go Mel, I will no longer enjoy your movies !!
