But even worse is that the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has become a shill to celebrities. I knew this 11 years ago with Tony Danza, who beat up a photographer and stole his camera. The Sheriffs were ridiculous -- they merely asked him to return the camera, which Danza did after removing the film. That was just fine with the Sheriffs. Well, it's gotten a lot worse. In the Mel Gibson case, I called the lieutenant who was on duty Friday, who told me that Gibson's arrest was "without incident." And I asked her about the anti-Semitic comments around mid-day. She said, in the phoniest of ways, "Oh, I'm just sure that's not the case." It was such a lying comment -- I just felt it. Well, turns out that this time I was right on target. The lieutenant who gave me the bogus statement is the same person who told the arresting Deputy to 86 the truth and create a bullshit explanation for what went down. The Sheriff's Department is so screwed. They thought they could protect their celebrity resident who did not deserve protection. What they didn't know is that we'd get a copy of the report that they tried to censor. And what's worse, there's evidence that I'm not allowed to report that will nail them to the wall.
Mel Gibson is garbage. What an awful person he is. True enough, I'm Jewish, so the grotesque remarks didn't please me none. And resisting arrest -- let me just say, I am privy to incontrovertible evidence that he did indeed try to bolt. It will come out, and it will shock you.

i doubt mel really cares if you support him. since the passion made over 300 million bucks, i think he is financially secure even with the withdrawal of your significant monetary contributions.

raquel,
send me a photo of yourself without a shirt. your name alone reminds me of big breasts and low IQ.

So Mel Gibson was arrested for a DUI. What does his comments have to do with the arrest.?!! I don't understand why the public needed to know all of that. Pure gossip!
Why the big fuss Mel Gibson is only human and not as perfect as some people think they are. We all make mistakes some just don't get caught.
I sent Sheriff Lee Baca a nice little email-informing him that while I knew(along with everone else in L.A.) that he is corrupt-my tax dollars do not go for him to be a personal assistant, butt plug and P/R person to a drunk, anti-semetic, kooky, over the hill, racist, pot belly idiot like Mel Gibson-and I will be writing my senator to see that these law enforcement people get punished becuase if it would have been me or a minority-running off at the mouth like that-100% we would have been shoit and killed!!!
Dear Levin,
I sincerly believe that Mr. Gibson should be held accountable not only for DUI but also for his behaviour including the anti-semitic comments that he has made. It is true that there is a war going on in the Middle East as I wirte this comment, but I strongly believe that it is not Isreal's fault. It was provoked by the terrorist organization that calls itself Hizzbollah (which means the army of God). The leader of this organization and his followers believe that they are delegated by God /Allah to kill Jews and Christians (who they identify as infidels i.e. non-believers). As a Christian I feel outrage when I hear/read such statements coming out of people who invoke the name of God (may be their God is different from my Christian God). Thujs, Mr. Gibson should understand that Isreal or the U.S.A. is not responsible for what is going on in the Middle East. I feel his misunderstanding stems either from his own upbringing and socialization process.
Anyway, the point I wanted to make is this -- Mr. Gibson should examin his own life first and fight his demons before pointing fingures at others because as Socrates once said, " a life that is not examined is not worth living. "
Thank you.

"Ordinary and noteworthy people have been embarrassed and sometimes slammed hard by law enforcement and justice department people for things that occurred during relatively minor offenses/victimless crimes, Zsa Zsa Gabor, Robert Downey Jr, Winona Ryder, to name a few well-known cases; why should Gibson's arrest be sanitized?"
Minor offenses? Victimless crimes? Pfft! (please note the proper and appropriate use of puncuation)
Zsa Zsa Gabor ASSAULTED (slapped) her arresting officer, M. Downey Jr. was found naked and under the influence on the kitchen floor of the house he BROKE INTO, and Ms. Ryder was arrested for SHOPLIFTING.......high dollar goods no less!
Zsa Zsa's actions are ones that make already weary officers that much more prone to over react in certain situations.
M. Downey Jr's breaking and entering pretty much speaks for itself.
Ms. Ryder's actions not only cost the store she stole from (loss of merchandise, general opinion of that establishment by the public, and of course legal fees), but in part also cost consumers money when the prices are raised to compensate for shoplifting as a whole.
I'm certain that the "alledged" anti-semetic comments that Mr. Gibson made might hurt his career and change some peoples perception of him, but Mr Gibson's "alledged" comments were left out not with the intention of protecting him, but rather left out as to not fan the fire concerning the current ongoings in the Middle East. Besides, his comments had absolutely nothing to do with what he was arrested for - please read on.
Although most people will agree that the judicial system and police/sheriffs depts don't quite follow the law "to the letter", it still stands that the accused is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law....not via the public opinion or one of a news/gossip columnist such as Mr. Levin.
From the initial reports Mr. Gibson was arrested for suspicion of DUI and was booked for said offense, just as anyone should be.
However, I don't recall seeing any mention that Mr. Gibson declined his Miranda rights, or was even read them. So therefore anything he said (sober or drunk) can not be used against him.
But for the sake of argument, and since Mr. Gibson nor his attorney have filed false arrest charges to that fact, lets just agree here that he was indeed read his Miranda rights.
Now if Mr. Gibson did indeed make the alledged anti-semetic comments that is really a shame, but that was not what he was arrested for, and therefore shouldn't even be mentioned since they have absolutely nothing to with with the matter at hand.
I agree that no celebrity should recieve any type of preferential treatment in a situation like this, but at some point the line has to be drawn on what is fact and what is pure slander/character assasination or assumption.
Basically what this boils down to is that trash talking and gossip is what garners attention and sells. PROVEN, RELEVANT facts are just a sidebar....congrats on keeping your job another day Mr Levin!
I will never spend another cent on a Mel Gibson film. I will not even view a Mel flick on TV, being shown for free. Someone should remind him that Jesus was a Jew. Furthermore a few days ago a christian friend told me that there seems to be proof that the body of Christ was located in India. Think of the ramifications if that turns out to be true.
Judging is a harsh business and i think that is what the media is best at!
Robert Byrd can make racist statements from the senate floor and can carry a KKK recruiter badge and everybody looks the other way.
Look every American studio passed on distribution of the Passion, and inspite of hollywood he still kicked box office but,
and we know how the town works, becuase of his defiance he was shunned by the studio system with or with out the remarks
you guys are so quick to hype this how can you look at yourself in the mirror
Ted kennedys car has killed more people than mel gibsons
do something about that
IF these comments are true, IF this isn't just sensasionalist reporting, and IF he is quoted correctly, his career is over! What a poor Christian witness ! When will people realize that stars are just people who make their living pretending to be someone else, and are not all that stable to begin with? Do people who cover up for the "stars " think that some of that tinsel will rub off on them?
People are so quick to smear someone just because they are christian and it sounds to me that these mysterious statements that are nothing more than accusations. I do believe Christ was a Jew. Hmm, if he is a christian and loves Jesus doesnt that seem a like a little moral dilema. Maybe, this is just some worthless journalist way to smear someone of whom they have ideological differences.
Mr. Weber: it appears that Mr. Gibson's father reportedly did come close to denying that the haulocaust took place, by indicating that he believed it to be mostly "fiction". See: http://www.movies.msn.com/news/article.aspx?news=229037>1=7701&mpc=2
Isn't it peculiar that in the same article, as referenced above, that Mel Gibson allegedly indicated that he wouldn't speak against his father? Is that because, perhaps, the "apple doesn't fall far from the tree"?
I don't think anything Mel said while intoxicated should be made public, it's just wrong. Of course if I was drunk, I might think differently.
