Bulletin: Gibson Enters Recovery Program

7/31/2006 5:12 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Mel GibsonStar Magazine has confirmed that Mel Gibson has begun a recovery program.

Gibson's rep, Alan Nierob, exclusively tells Star, "He is in a program of recovery at this time."

Chris Prentiss, a neighbor of Gibson's and the co-founder of celebrity treatment centre Passages in Malibu, Calif., tells Star: "I understand he has gone to a treatment centre. The center that I've heard he's checked himself into follows the Alcoholics Anonymous 12-step program. And I don't believe that will help him."

Prentiss -- who refused to name the rehab center he's heard Gibson is in -- adds: "He needs individual intense therapy by a team of people who know what they are looking for in causes in alcoholism."

I think this whole story on Mel Gibson is blown way out of porportions. Geez, the guy is apologizing profusly, and you all keep hammmering away at him. First of all he's entiltled to make a mistake. He can't be condemmed for a comment in a drunken state. Is thius the only IMPORTANT news in the world??? Let it go and let the man make up for his mistake. How many of you are bigots???

Mr. Gibson has a chemical dependency problem. There won't be a real resolution until he shuts down his press machinery, and commits to and continues treatment. There are bigger and more important issues to deal with than one middle age, rich beyond belief caucasion male....Enough is enough, if you're real Mr. Gibson, do the real and right thing. Shut the press down, get back to health, and work on fixing your racist behaviors out of the public/press eye; it can and should be done.
