Bulletin -- Prosecutors Reviewing Gibson Case

Mel GibsonTMZ has learned the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has sent the L.A. County District Attorney the Mel Gibson case for review. The D.A. will decide whether to file driving under the influence charges, a misdemeanor, against Gibson.

The D.A. could also file charges of resisting arrest if the evidence warrants. That charge could be filed as either a misdemeanor or a felony, depending on the circumstances. As TMZ reported, Gibson attempted to flee the scene of his arrest but was subdued by the deputy.

Gibson's next scheduled court date is September 28.

No timetable on when the D.A. will make its decision.

16. Mel Gibson will have problems with the Jewish community over this because he is a public person, an entertainer who behaved as obnoxioius as Joe Kennedy Sr. and Henry Ford, who are known Jew haters. It's not like he's the owner of a construction firm or an accountant that's not in the public eye. I don't dislike the man. I believe that in the macro, he's a good man but even with me his reputation is tarnished. As for one of your bloggers who is angry with his/her Jewish friends who are not happy with Gibson yet call Muslims and Palestinians all sorts of names, understand this: Islamo Fascists are the same as Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, and Fidel Castro. What does Bin Laden want? I know the answer. I'll bet you don't know.

17. I agree, it sickens me this mob mentality against Mel Gibson. So we are witnessing so much carnagge, and death, and injustice, and we are not free to say what we like or we don't like. is that hypocrisy or what?
So who is defining what fredom of speach is?
I am sorry, I like Mel Gibsom, I always had, and I always will, and yes, I think he should be acountable for the DIU, and please Mel , shape up, you have so much talent, you shouldn't waisted it. And by the way, maybe because I european, I hate this ward, and to say that I don't like somebody it doesn't mean I hate then, sorry guys, no every body is like you, no every body has hate in their heart.

19. Do you really think the Anti-Defamation League is in the "little person" category? The ADL will not let this go. They will see that Mr. Gibson get his day in court.

21. I cannot believe the horrible comments and critical review of Mel Gibson's incident in Malibu. Most of the comments contain offensive language, and appear to be from uneducated, insensitive, and dangerous individuals. Mel's incident was a display of poor taste, and it furthers peoples belief that he is anti-semetic. He should have been arrested for his resistance, and should be placed in the courts to rectify his poor behavior. Unbelievable it is that half a decade after McCarthy we are still resolving racial issues and rewarding unacceptible behavior by the rich.
Shame on you Mel & fans that support his actions.

22. It amazes me how the media has blown this outta proportion. It seems its more important than Israel killing innocent civilians. Why is it Anti-Semetic to think Jews have created problems through out history? Is it a lie? Prove me wrong. Every race, ethnicity, has done something to make this world worse. Pointing things out seems to be a huge problem these days. Was Jesus Anti-Semetic when pointed out the flaws of the Jewish clergy when he was around??

P.s. That anchor woman on MSNBC who compared Gibson to Saddam Hussein, should get fired. What a moron.

24. Ha, that photo! TMZ really does have a vendetta out for Gibson, now, doesn't it? The guy's had hundreds of thousands of complimentary, candid photographs taken of him and TMZ seems to have rummaged around in search of the very worst, most uncomplimentary snaps they could find.

What's up with that?

(That last sentence is a rhetorical question.)

25. Another drunk for Christ....this explains alot. I'm getting pretty tired of people with an addiction using religion as a crutch to get them through and then we all have to deal with the results when they're people in the entertainment/media world or in national government.

26. I just watched the news and some guy from the LASD said there was no coverup.I personally don't have any evidence that there was a coverup but I think Harvey Levin is more believable than the representative from the LASD.I think the next time Gibson is speeding and drunk in the wee hours of the morning the cops should just let him go and let him kill himself.Hopefully there won't be any other victims nearby.

28. I always felt that anyone in the public eye has a responsibility to set themselves up as a good example. Wrong!!! yet again.

By the way, tell Mell that AA will help him no matter what his religious beliefs.

29. This story is far over-spun.If I were drunk I'd probably say some things that could be taken as being Anti-Semitic remarks; Then again I've seen the pictures of the Dead Children in Lebanon and the UN Outpost and other Israeli "mistakes" lately. I'm willing to let Mel get away with this once. This is the one time that I've seen an MSNBC anchor-person honestly put too much spin on a story. The DUI should stick. His comments, Hell I'm not Racist and since this freakin war started in Lebanon ,I and others have said things that may sometimes seem anti-semetic without any alcohol to fuel it. Mr. Gibson was intoxicated. I'll let his comments slide.

30. Mel Gibson is a racist, as was his father. Regardless of the garbage that goes on in Hollywood, this is not the first time his true nature has been shown. He will, most likely, not receive the most that the LA District Attorney would give to a "less public" individual, but that's the way it is in this country. Celebrities are treated like royalty, for some odd reason, and he will probably just get a slap on the wrist. In my opinion, his service to society should be community service to an interfaith organization that works on establishing good and productive relationships between Jews, Muslims and Christians. He certainly does not practice the tenets of the Catholic faith he holds so dearly, so maybe he needs a bit of education and work in that area by paying back those groups with service and humility.
