Bulletin -- Prosecutors Reviewing Gibson Case

Mel GibsonTMZ has learned the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has sent the L.A. County District Attorney the Mel Gibson case for review. The D.A. will decide whether to file driving under the influence charges, a misdemeanor, against Gibson.

The D.A. could also file charges of resisting arrest if the evidence warrants. That charge could be filed as either a misdemeanor or a felony, depending on the circumstances. As TMZ reported, Gibson attempted to flee the scene of his arrest but was subdued by the deputy.

Gibson's next scheduled court date is September 28.

No timetable on when the D.A. will make its decision.

31. To begin with I'm neutral to both sides of this issue, however this is the drift
I'm getting:

The media went into a rage as soon as Gibson revealed his Ideas for The Passion. The mainstream media began doing hatchet movie reviews before Gibson even began shooting the picture. Somebody lifted a copy of the script and released it to some selective reviewers.

A tremendous amount of pressure was placed on Gibson to change the script and re-edit the movie.

Right up until opening day, Hollywood moguls said they would never work with him again. (They changed their tune when the movie took in $117 million in five days.)

Sounds like they have previously (to this incident) declared a war on Gibson.

33. Alcohol tends to remove inhibitions as we all know. In this case, alcohol was a truth serum for Mel. His movie (Passion...) was biased and anti-semitic and now we all know why. Mel, you are a talented yet ignorant little man. I will never again pay to see anything you are involved in. You topped out with Brave heart. Now you can lie in your own wasteful thoughts and drop out of the consciousness of most who ever liked or admired you.

34. I applaud Mel Gibson for saying what was on his mind.. Unfortunately it had to come out while he was drunk. I really think that he just said what a lot of other people thought. It's also unfortunate that Jewish people seem to be the majority here in America and that they have a commanding influence on America's politics. Eventually, their actions and views are going to be the reason why America succumbs to Terrorist and other anti-American groups. Need proof?? Well the British are always backing America no matter what we do, but because our ties are much stronger to Israel the British are not as hated in the rest of the world as we are. Just think for a seccond... When was the last time you saw a British flag being burned in the Middle East??

35. Since when is it a crime for being stupid? Guess right now Mr. Gibson. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you. You are an idiot who happens to drink too much for your own good and career.
This topic is closed as far as I'm concerned...the world is on the brink of major disaster and many innocent lives are being lost to save Israel.
Where do you fit in compared to the problems of the world. Go back to Australia....They are very forgiving peiople I'M NOT!

37. A couple of thoughts to defend the LA Sheriff's office.
1 Is it possible in reviewing the report the supervisors thought the beligerant comments were not material to the criminal case? Mr Gibson is being charged with ( I assume) exhibition of speed, reckless driving, and Driving while under the influence. I don't think stupid comments (yes i mean the antisemetic remarks) were the cause of his poor driving.
2. With regard to the other highly distinguished behavior (proclaiming to own Malibu, the gentlemanly comments to the female officer, and elaborate plan to escape- he secretly meant to get recaptured and will sneak out of jail Sept 11 when no one is watching) how different are these than from any other beligerant drunk?
I think the Sheriff's office may have felt these specifics didn't need to be included, since Mr Gibson is a public figure and therefore more likely to disproportionately harmed by having it included in the public report than the typical person (how many people would be seeking your arrest report to post on the internet? Your attorney, family, maybe). As long as it does not compromise consideration of prosecution- who cares?

I am not condoning Mr Gibson's comments, and definitely not his driving (Mel run for governor like Arnold- then the CHP will drive you around); yes i chuckled at the descriptions of his behavior (I've seen the COPS episode where the drunk runs away from the police thinking he can escape- for reference its episode 2- 2million. and don't forget the valentine's day special "drunks running for love"); but haven't most of us gotten hammered and made fools of ourselves? or worse just made fools of ourselves? ( with the exception of myself). Mr Gibson's behavior was totally out of line, and the only good thing is NOBODY GOT HURT!!!!!!! If the rantings of a drunk hurt you, or you think there is any truth in notion that Jew are responsible for all the wars- GET HELP!!!!!!!!
Having rambled on, hopefully mocking all parties, I want to commend Mr Gibson for not attempting to evade the situation ( i am referring to the sober Mr Gibson, not the one who thought he could outrun the LA sheriff's office- but remember his plan) I heard about his apology about the same time the original story broke. Of course, now that he has stood up, he has to take the long walk of genuine repentance (including getting help for whatever caused this situation)- its a Catholic thing (okay i think its part of most religions).

38. This is getting silly, as an ex police officer I as did fellow officers have had the unfortunate opportunity of stopping celebrities, they get drunk, they shoot off their mouths, and talk stupid, booze does this, some even display what we call beer muscles, is there nothing else in the news to report, this is not a "cover up" please. This is in no sense of the words a "cover up"

With all that is going on in the world Mr Gibson apologized let it go, on the street police officers are called worse they are spit upon, kicked, shot and killed daily I think we all need to grow up and if you are offended by what the officer was exposed to just try to work one day as a police officer, firefighter, or EMT then you will have something to talk about and be offended by todays society is so thinned skinned.

40. Mel Gibson is no different than the rest of us and for those of you who think you are different - you better look in mirror. Mel had the balls to go out on the line and make The Passion of the Christ which stirred up many heated discussions and controversy. Good for him - It got people thinking and talking. Now, because he is human, everyone is on the band wagon to ban his movies and give him less respect than he deserves. I challenge anyone out there to have balls enough to put yourself in the limelight creating something you are passionate about - then have your life under a microscope. Let's see how much responsibility you take. I guarantee most of you would try to deny your responsibility.

41. Geez Harvey, way to tow the Jewish line....

Why don't you give Mr. Gibson some credit. For someone as drunk as he was reported to be, he sure had a firm grasp of the facts: that Jews are responsible for "all the wars" in the world. They sure are responsible for the genecide going on in Lebanon at the moment.

44. Harvey, you and Sam Rubin need to put your yamak's back in the drawer and get a real job!

You guys really think the majority of people care about the crap you spread. You and the National Enquire are all in the same business. What happened to Mel happens every day to people from all walks of life and NOBODY cares about it or even knows. But some celeb gets drunk and verbally slams a Jew cop and you think it's major news, not to mention having to listen to Harvey snivel on and on about how the Sherief lied to him. Stop the presses, this is another Watergate! Harvey, Harvey WHO? Wake up, come out of the ether, your the ones giving Jews a bad name. With everything going on in the world today some how draging around a story about Mel is as trivial as you can get, but then consider the source.

What a Joke!!!!!!!!!
