EXCLUSIVE: Gibson Skated Twice Before

TMZ has learned that Mel Gibson has been stopped for reckless driving two other times in Malibu but he was allowed to leave without a ticket or arrest.

As TMZ first reported, Gibson was arrested on Friday for suspicion of driving under the influence on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu -- driving 87 miles an hour. As we reported, the deputy who arrested Gibson was ordered to sanitize his arrest report to make it appear that Gibson's arrest was "without incident." In fact, The report states Gibson was abusive, violent and vulgar, and even attempted to escape.

TMZ has confirmed that approximately three years ago, Gibson was driving 74 miles per hour on Pacific Coast Highway, one mile from his house, when he was pulled over by a Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputy. Sources say Gibson avoided eye contact with the deputy during the stop and even though the deputy was suspicious of Gibson's sobriety, he let him go.

Approximately one year ago Gibson was stopped again, after driving 64 miles an hour on Pacific Coast Highway -- where the speed limit is 45. Sources say that Gibson was so cocky that he was on his cell phone the entire time he was detained by the deputy. Ultimately, the deputy decided to let him go without giving him a citation.

And there's new information about Friday's arrest.

As TMZ reported, the deputy who arrested Gibson was ordered by superiors to re-write his report and eliminate all references to Gibson's bad conduct and anti-Semitic remarks. Sources tell TMZ that Lt. Crystal Miranda told the arresting deputy that Captain Tom Martin talked to Sheriff Lee Baca who expressed concern that the explosive report might leak to the media and that it needed to be re-written in a sanitized form.

Sources say Gibson, who was pulled over early Friday morning for allegedly crossing lanes at a high speed, told the arresting deputy that he was leaving home just after 2 a.m. and heading to his brother's house. The arresting deputy found a bottle of tequila in the car, 3/4 full, in a brown paper bag. We're told that Gibson told the deputy that the bottle wasn't his but, "I've had a little bit."

We're also told that Gibson, who issued a statement over the weekend, suggesting he was not of sound mind when he uttered the anti-Semitic tirade and engaged in abusive behavior, was not in fact "out of it." Sources connected with the case tell TMZ that Gibson was drunk but was in control of his senses. At one point at the Sheriff's station, sources say Gibson was "jumping like a monkey" on a steel cage and told the arresting deputy, "I'm not going to hurt you physically. I'm gonna hurt you. I'm gonna make you lose."

We're also told that deputies at the Sheriff's station were star struck by Gibson and a number of them went to Gibson's holding cell to get a look of the star. The problem for the Sheriff's department -- there's a mounted camera in the station and the deputies can be seen fawning over the actor. Sheriff's officials have called some of the officers who were caught on tape in and warned them they might be subject to discipline.

As TMZ reported, the arresting deputy was ordered by officials to take out references to Gibson's bad behavior. We're told the altered report makes no mention of the fact that Gibson attempted to flee the scene by running to his car to escape. We're also told that the officer checked a box on the report that Gibson was "belligerent." Ironically, even though officials did not order the deputy to remove that reference, they did order him to re-write the report to eliminate all references to the supporting evidence leading the officer to believe Gibson was indeed "belligerent."

812. Poor Mel. The product of his upbringing. What can you expect from someone raised by an anti-semite holocust denying, history revisionist father. His father should be brought to task also.

817. All of you seem to be totally influened by Mad Mel's P.R. machines. Mad Mel had been shown incredible compassion. The type of compassion that makes one justice system for millionaires and another one for the rest of us. The P.R. machine and the top laywers he had hired have covered up the remarks he made to the active female officers on duty. They have covered up the fundelmental believes that the renegade cult/Catholic church he belongs to. They have covered up his sleazing around with young women at bars. They have been covering up for him for years because he is a big time money maker.
Remember, if any of us resisted arrest, and insulted the officers like he did, we would have gotten the Rodney King treatment, had the video make publc, had the pictures taken of us in the station made public and had our arrest picture made public. We also would have been cuffed immediately.
Do you think you would have the L.A. Sheriff lie publically to the media to cover up for you ?
As Mad Mel said "I'm Fuc*ed. Not "I'm sorry or I'm embarresed His public apologies after were written for him by his team.
Compassion. His agent lied to the public about Mel being in some kind of mysterious rehab? NO he is in the rehab of the stars, The Betty Ford Clinic.
I am a recovering alcoholic, sober for 24 years. The things he said and did was typical of a spoiled, uneducationed, millionaire bigot who is used to getting away with everything. What Mel needs is justic and to beheld accountable for the mysery he has put people through in his out of control life.
He needs to be charged with resisting arrest as we would have been. Have the Sherrif's office release everything they can. He should also be charged for the insults he threw at the women officers. To excuse him for being drunk? Come on, let's then open all the jails. His drunkness released his inhibitions.

Mad MAx called one female officer on duty "A Bitch.
Mad Max said, "What are you looking at suger t*ts.
If you are protestant, like Mad Mel's saintly wife, he believes that Jesus will
not accept you, and you will go to hell
All those fundementalist Christian groups that love his out of control
violence are going to hell in Mad Mel's eyes

818. I sure would like to know who the real Mel Gibson is. Does he drink like that at home and talk to his wife like he did to the female officer when he called her "sugar tits"? They say when people drink, their true colors come out. He probably really is a racist.

819. I DON'T REALLY GIVE A DAMN WHAT MEL OR ANY OTHER STAR THINKS OF JEWS, MEXICANS, OR WHATEVER, I JUST WANT HIM TO PAY FOR HIS CRIME. THE S.O.B. COULD HAVE KILLED SOMEONE. I'M JUST TIRED OF THESE F***ING CELEBRITIES THINKING THEY CAN GET AWAY WITH MURDER(SOME LITERALLY)AND AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED MEL SHOULD BE CHARGED WITH MULTIPLE CHARGES,NOT JUST WITH A D.U.I. I'LL NEVER WATCH ANOTHER ONE OF HIS DAMN MOVIES AGAIN.

820. I THINK THAT EVERYBODY HAS AT ONE TIME MADE SOME HUGE MISTAKE IN LIFE THAT HE OR SHE IS NOT PROAD OF OR SHOULD HAVE BEEN PUT IN PRISON FOR .TO JUDGE MEL FOR HIS MISTAKES IS WRONG .WE SHOULD ALL LEARN TO LOVE ONE ANOTHER FOR WHAT WE ARE ,HUMANS WHO WHERE CREATED IN THE IMAGE OF GOD . PUT ON EARTH TO LEARN FROM OUR MISTAKES AND WHEN MISTAKES ARE MADE TO ASK GOD TO FORGIVE US FOR OUR MISTAKES. MEL HAS SAID HE IS SORRY FOR HIS MISTAKE AND PLANS TO CORRECT IT . THATS GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME AS LONG AS HE DOES SOMTHING ABOUT IT . WE SHOULD TRY TO SUPPORT SOMEONE WHO HAS MADE MISTAKES AND HELP THEM THRU IT . NOT TEAR THEM DOWN TILL THERE IS NOTHING LEFT . IF WE WOULD ALL SHOW OUR FELLOW MAN SOME COMPATION AND LOVE AND SUPPORT WHEN THEY FALL FROM GRACE THIS WORLD WOULD BE A LOT NICER FOR ALL. . I SUPPORT YOU MEL .

821. The most infurating part of this whole story is not Mel's alcoholism, his remarks or his issues with Tequila, but the special treatment he has received from the LA police department. Who the hell cares? I can't be bothered with his issues. What I am bothered by is the police giving him treatment that NOT ONE OF US READING THIS would EVER get. Rewriting the report? Why? As to not humiliate him? i guarantee that anyone reading this post now would be grossly humiliated if we were pulled over for speeding, drunk with an open bottle of tequila in the car? Come on LA Police, pull it together! Stop gawking and start doing your job!!!

822. Mel Gibson has given us some of the best movies in years. The latest one Apocylypto was shot in the steaming jungle with rain storms, bugs snakes and all that. Mels crew said they have never seen him so stressed on set. The movie was also behind schedule. He gets home and finds out the middle east is blowing up with hundreds of children and civillians being bombed to death.Maybe that was on Mels mind when he made those comments. What would happen if Mel said Those Canadians are bastards, they start all the wars. I hate them, or those Brits are even worse. Would anybody even take notice. I THINK NOT. He was wrong to drink and drive, for that he should get the required punishment. But don't you think with his Star Power justice would be better served if he was made to do public service anouncements or adopt a piece of road to clean up. I drank for 40 years, I stopped in 1980 without help. When a person is ready it will happen. I will continue to support Mel Gibson and pay to see his movies. Let me ask you, is anyone out there perfect, without fault.. Give the guy a chance. I am a Canadian living in Vancouver, and at the age of 70 I have yet to find that perfect human, maybe I should check LA.

823. Here we go again, with another star on the rise! I feel that when someone drinks they are not coherent, and if he made a remark about jews or whatever, how can someone account for someone being drunk. Yes, he was drinking and driving and he should be trial just like anyone else, star or not, everyone has to pay for their actions. But my only concern is how the LAPD handled it as always they never can get a story correct. Now they are re writing their reports! Why would the police aggravate someone when they had too much to drink. example: when he was in Jail! This tells me that even our own officers have no respect for the law. I'm hispanic and I don't approve of his drinking and driving, but I do approve of being rehabilitated just like everyone else. Maybe it's time for all stars to realized they too make mistake just like everyone else.

824. It's disgusting that Gibson recieves preferential treatment for something as dangerous as driving while under the influence. Also sickening are those of you making excuses for his obvious hatred of Jewish people and lack of respect for the lady officer. Sad that you're so obviously taken in by those baby blues. I will not make excuses for that toad, nor will I ever see another movie attached to his name.

825. I can't believe all of the people who are so willing to forgive bigotry and hatred. I don't care if Mel was driving drunk. I could forgive him for that. To all of you who say, "he was drunk so we can't condem him for what he said." Bull@*^!!!!! It's when you're drunk and defenses are down that the true you comes out. Mel Gibson has shown us his true self and it's ugly. No amount of apology can change an ingrained hatred for another race. I do believe he made The Passion to perpetuate his beliefs that the "Jews" were responsible for killing Jesus. He, as well as his father hate the Jewish race. This is a learned ignorance and hatred, just like that of the terrorists that we are so well aware of these days. Mel Gibson is no better than a terrorist, in my mind. Sorry Mel. It's time for us to stop tolerating bigotry and hatred no matter who is perpetuating it, even the Hollywood elite.
