EXCLUSIVE: Gibson Skated Twice Before

TMZ has learned that Mel Gibson has been stopped for reckless driving two other times in Malibu but he was allowed to leave without a ticket or arrest.

As TMZ first reported, Gibson was arrested on Friday for suspicion of driving under the influence on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu -- driving 87 miles an hour. As we reported, the deputy who arrested Gibson was ordered to sanitize his arrest report to make it appear that Gibson's arrest was "without incident." In fact, The report states Gibson was abusive, violent and vulgar, and even attempted to escape.

TMZ has confirmed that approximately three years ago, Gibson was driving 74 miles per hour on Pacific Coast Highway, one mile from his house, when he was pulled over by a Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputy. Sources say Gibson avoided eye contact with the deputy during the stop and even though the deputy was suspicious of Gibson's sobriety, he let him go.

Approximately one year ago Gibson was stopped again, after driving 64 miles an hour on Pacific Coast Highway -- where the speed limit is 45. Sources say that Gibson was so cocky that he was on his cell phone the entire time he was detained by the deputy. Ultimately, the deputy decided to let him go without giving him a citation.

And there's new information about Friday's arrest.

As TMZ reported, the deputy who arrested Gibson was ordered by superiors to re-write his report and eliminate all references to Gibson's bad conduct and anti-Semitic remarks. Sources tell TMZ that Lt. Crystal Miranda told the arresting deputy that Captain Tom Martin talked to Sheriff Lee Baca who expressed concern that the explosive report might leak to the media and that it needed to be re-written in a sanitized form.

Sources say Gibson, who was pulled over early Friday morning for allegedly crossing lanes at a high speed, told the arresting deputy that he was leaving home just after 2 a.m. and heading to his brother's house. The arresting deputy found a bottle of tequila in the car, 3/4 full, in a brown paper bag. We're told that Gibson told the deputy that the bottle wasn't his but, "I've had a little bit."

We're also told that Gibson, who issued a statement over the weekend, suggesting he was not of sound mind when he uttered the anti-Semitic tirade and engaged in abusive behavior, was not in fact "out of it." Sources connected with the case tell TMZ that Gibson was drunk but was in control of his senses. At one point at the Sheriff's station, sources say Gibson was "jumping like a monkey" on a steel cage and told the arresting deputy, "I'm not going to hurt you physically. I'm gonna hurt you. I'm gonna make you lose."

We're also told that deputies at the Sheriff's station were star struck by Gibson and a number of them went to Gibson's holding cell to get a look of the star. The problem for the Sheriff's department -- there's a mounted camera in the station and the deputies can be seen fawning over the actor. Sheriff's officials have called some of the officers who were caught on tape in and warned them they might be subject to discipline.

As TMZ reported, the arresting deputy was ordered by officials to take out references to Gibson's bad behavior. We're told the altered report makes no mention of the fact that Gibson attempted to flee the scene by running to his car to escape. We're also told that the officer checked a box on the report that Gibson was "belligerent." Ironically, even though officials did not order the deputy to remove that reference, they did order him to re-write the report to eliminate all references to the supporting evidence leading the officer to believe Gibson was indeed "belligerent."

841. why are jews so sensitive about having "killed" Christ. I really don't get it. think about it. Christians have been responsible for the murder of millions of people, and I don't see them getting upset about being called out on it. Christian whites have killed other white, blacks, jews, etc...and have also been punished for their deeds.

Methinks the Jewish people are clearly quite defensive on this point.

hmmmmm.

Why can't they just tell the truth. If the Jews hadn't cared about Jesus, he wouldn't have been put to death. So, let's not rewrite history.

842. The fact is that on the whole, the loud obnoxious jews make a very bad name for the mellow, really nice, more assimilated jews, and the rest of their race/religion.

I am SOOO SICK of jewish self-pity and HYPOCRISY. YES, THEY criticized his movie: "Passion" and tried to misrepresent it as anti-semitic. Why are the jewish people the only ones with a special word depicting hatred of their race/lineage? The shameless self-pitying is just revolting.

In the same breath, they attack the movie as anti-semitic, and then admit to not having seen it, but it MUST be anti-semitic b/c they used to do these pogram things in the Middle Ages, so Mel's movie must be anti-semitic.
Is a movie depicting whites having slaves anti-white? No, simply historically accurate. We must be FORCED to recognize, accept their religion, and suffering, but we have no right to OUR Christian religion...

Yes folks, Jesus was rejected by his own people, as prophecied in Old Testament. Why is "Passion" anti-semitic, eh? It's the truth, and whomever has seen the movie shall see that in NO WAY WERE JEWS POORLY DEPICTED.

When certain forceful Jews stop trying to control everything that does not depict them exactly as they want to be depicted, then people like Mel, AND OTHERS, will stop criticizing.

I SUPPORT MEL. PASSION WAS NOT ANTI-semitic, and they were still waiting to get him.

But, Mel does need help with his abusing the drug alcohol. Other than that, he has the RIGHT TO SAY WHAT HE WANTS!

843. When drunk one loses the ability to think before acting and hence tends to say the truth without thinking before its consequences... but at the same time Jesus said, " Out of the abundance of the heart, his mouth speaks". Clearly, in a drunk a man never means what he says hence is not said from the heart and should not be held against him.

Many people today are still racist at heart but will never come out of say it out of their hearts. They can hang around other races, being all happy around them... but give them enough wine and they'll spill their guts... u cant hold that against them... U can't hold a drunk person with his words, but anybody can be held by their actions, drunk or not... Mel has never acted anti-semitic neither has he ever said anything anti-semitic in a conscious mind state.

This whole anti-semitic thing is not serious enough to be called news. He was clocked at almost twice the speed limit under the influence, now that's a serious offence he has to be punished for, and not for anything he had said in his state of mind.

Peace out

844. I feel bad for him because he obviously was taught to hate and through his own fight with alcohol he hasn't looked deep enough to see that there is only one race ..........Human. I am a fan, however, I never thought to see "The Passion". I thought he was going off in territory as an actor that might bite him in the end.

A doctumentory about him and the making of that movie made me see him in a different light. He seemed to be more of the Christian religon that thought the Spanish Inquisition was okay.

I do feel that in his feelings he will find the reason why this hate he has caused him to drink again.

God Bless

845. I read Mr. Gibson should be held acountable for his actions.... hmmm, would that be driving while impaired? In that case yes. No problem. But as regards his personal beliefs, opinions, or pieves, no other human being knows what they are regardless of a drunken rant!... He is as entitled to his own opinion about dogs , Jews , the Yankees or any other damn thing, as any one else! He has already apologised but apparently that is not enough to appease the very sensitive Anti defamation league.... In this country, at least for now, people can still say, rant or scream any damn thing they want to. Mel is an amazeingly talented and blessed human being and I guess the good Lord isn't thru useing him yet in what ever way he chooses. The key word is HUMAN... go ahead , cast the first stone... lots of haters out there! Still love the MEL!!

849. Mel obviously likes to partake of the grape and it is not legal or safe to drive in that condition.as for the comments about anti semitism.the studio system has been waiting for him to pull something so they can get retribution for Passion of the Christs spectacular run outside of the hollywood distribution channels.as for his father he is a patriot and a stand up american.sick of the abuses his son and others have had to endure he is outspoken about the hollywood system and those who control it.mel get some control of the drinking and god speed."what is said when drunk was thought out before hand" a fan,and well read american who knows the truth..............c-3 vp
