31. I'm a telecommunications project manager from Dallas, TX. I'm Jewish and observant. I haven't started any wars that I'm aware of. Reading that Mel Gibson may have said "f---ing Jews. Jews started all the wars." deeply offends me and my family. Not sure how I'm supposed to not take that personally or regard it as anything other than anti-semitic. Seems to me you could insert any race, creed or religion for Jew and the statements would be just as offensive to anyone of that race, creed or religion. But i think I'm most shocked at how other people are defending these statements as freedom of speech and justifying them based on their personal views of Israel and what's happening in the middle east. Hate of any kind is unjustified. And making statements like those that Mel Gibson is accused of against a race/religion of people is racist. Pure and simple. There is no excuse. Shalom.

40. Mel Gibson has clearly revealed himself to be an anti-Semite. Donohue of the Catholic organization that defended Gibson's apology was on The Colbert Report last week saying that immorality in America is due to the "secular Jews". Hardly an ubiased opinion for a fellow prominent Catholic.

It seems that Catholics in general harbor derogatory stereotypes of Jews, not unlike the Arabs. Maybe this is something the Pope should address.

It seems to me that people use the terms "Jewish" and "the state of Israel" interchangeably. These are not synonimous.
You can be "Jewish" (a term which designates mostly a certain cultural belonging as well as SOMETIMES religious affiliation) and not support Israel's bully behavior in the middle East.
In fact:
1). One can be "Jewish" --without being religiously observant (so the analogy "Jewish"-"Catholic" rests on a misunderstanding of the terms)
2). A Jew is not automatically Israeli (or pro-Israel by default).
3). Statements that use "all" or "nothing" terminology (such as "Jews are responsible for all wars [...]") are usually easy to question, debunk and dismiss.
I suggest we all do just that with Mel Gibson's intoxicated ignorance.

And besides the war in Lebanon, jews dont have to do with anything. Not the genocide in darfur, not the terrorism by pakistan on mumbai, not the malitias that kidnap children into killer gangs in the Congo, not in Iraq, not in Chechnia's attacks on russia. So basically to say that Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world is not a statement of fact, it is a statement of hatred towards Jews. I'm sure If he had said that blacks cause all the wars in the world you wouldn't be defending him and say that as long as he wasn't threatening them then it's ok.
