Gibson Eats His Words

In yet another ironic twist in the Mel Gibson DUI saga, an interview with the actor in 2004 shows Gibson slamming reports of anti-semitism and opening up about his past issues with alcohol abuse.

In the sit-down with Diane Sawyer for "Primetime" Gibson laughs off rumors of anti-semitism saying, "for me it goes against the tenets of my faith to be racist in any point."

The Aussie was also grilled about his issues with alcoholism, which Gibson swore were in the past -- "Sometimes I used to drive inebriated, this is at the height of careless stupidity and when you think of that kind of insanity, I look back at that now and go what was I thinking."

61. I am so tired of people picking apart every little thing a person does if he or she claims to be a christian. Being a christian does not mean you are perfect or don't make mistakes or even that you don't have issue that needs to be dealt with. It simply means that you are counting on a higher power for forgiveness, help for the areas of your life that need improvement and everlasting life. We all have done stupid things. Mel Gibson never claimed to be perfect. He wanted to give people hope by showing the world that Jesus suffered and died so we would have hope through Christ's death. It was the Jewish people who crucified Christ ( Whose only crime was that he claimed to be the son of God) and they were Gods chosen people. So how can Mel Gibson be anti-semitic and believe in a Jewish God. Maybe he doesn't so much dislike the Jews personally, but maybe he is angry for the actions they have taken. As a christian myself I feel sorry for the Jewish people because they refuse to believe in their savior and through out history and the Bible they continue to be at war. You can not hate Jews and love Christ, and I believe Mel Gibson loves Christ, but needs to deal with his sin and I believe he will with Gods help.

62. Mel Gibson's anti-Semitic remarks when arrested for drunk driving in Malibu this week are bad enough, but he's poised to do far worse damage. Alcoholism doesn't explain or excuse the remarks - it only exposes Gibson's real feelings.

An anti-Semite is clearly not the kind of person who should produce a TV mini-series on the Holocaust, yet Gibson, with ABC-TV's (thus also parent Walt Disney's) backing, is planning to do exactly that. Someone who denies or tries to minimize the Holocaust is not someone who should produce a mini-series on the Holocaust, yet Gibson is that kind of person. He has already publicly tried to minimize the destruction of all Europe's Jews as just a minor casualty of war.

Everything in Gibson's history suggests that in the mini-series he will try to portray the Holocaust as affecting just "some" Jews, along the lines of "war is hell" and that nothing really special happened to the Jewish people. I say this based on Gibson's own remarks about the Holocaust and his refusal to repudiate his father's, Hutton Gibson's, denials that the Holocaust ever happened. It appears that Gibson is poised to spread the Holocaust deniers' message to the entire world. That is something that neither ABC-TV, nor Walt Disney Co., ought to aid and abet.

Please read the following, email this message to friends, email Anne Sweeney, president of ABC-TV Group (using her secretary's email address: megan.mcallister@disney.com), and/or write to Robert Iger, president of Walt Disney Studios, 500 S. Buena Vista Street, Burbank. CA 91521, with a copy to Steve McPherson, president of ABC Entertainment, same address, objecting to giving Gibson - or his company -- the platform with which to further publicize his hate-filled views. I believe the following makes clear Gibson's hidden agenda, and the kind of message he wishes to put out.

63. Do any of you think that you would be treated with the same kind of kid gloves that Mel was? Try threatening an officer or calling him/her, "sugar (word of your choosing) sometime and see where it gets you the next time you are pulled over! When you are behind bars I hope that they eventually give you some internet time so that you can let us know how it worked out. Good Luck!

68. If anyone thinks Mel Gibson is not a Jew Hater they should read what he writes on his blogsite "Mel's Musings."...If they can...some of it is in Latin.
Mel should go back to Australia by way of Auschwitz and the other camps....and take his dad.
I'll never see another of his movies.

69. Don't you just love it? Jews always love to scream "REVISIONIST!!!" if someone doesn't see things the way they do. Yet THEY are the biggest revisionists as witnessed by all their machinations when Gibson produced the Passion of the Christ.

Hypocrites!

70. Give me a break. I didn't know saying something is worst that doing it. The state of Israel is killing people and no one says a word about it. And, now we are being offended by what Mel says? Aren't we the hypocrites?

71. Post #2. Mr. Weinstein...wake up and smell the flowers. You must have been a real pushover in school. Why don't we all sit around and hold hands. Any jerk that mouths off like he did should not be put in the category of humans. Why don't we forgive Hitler. He was human also. Let alone that Mr. Gibson was driving drunk and could have killed innocent people. Lets see now, we have a drunk, and an anti-semitic jerk. That sounds like someone I would forgive and want to sit around a dinner table with especially on a Jewish holiday. Shame on you!!

73. A very rich man acts stupid and thinks he can get away with it simply because he believes that "He is God's gift to Earth", As other celebrities, politicians, and pro-atheletes he'll probably get away with breaking the law. The anti-semtic slurs and hate speech will be tougher to shake. Now, if for some reason we assume that he damaged his career irreparably, he still had more money than any one hundred of us could spend in an average lifetime. Even if Mel Gibson disappears from the Hollywood scene, it's no big deal. There are 100s that can take his place as the courtyard jester.

75. Good Morning
How unfortuniate Mr. Gibson has not received treatment for his alcohol problem.
Perhaps he feels he is above it?
Often when we are under stress or alcohol or drugs of any kind, we do and say things that are like tinkling brass the next day.
Just think (even sober) of the mean and terrible things people say to eachother sometimes. Then, if there is any good in us at all, we bow down and apologize.
But....the sound still tinkles in the air.
I hope Mr. Gibson will realize he has a serious problem, want help, receive help,
and continues on making great movies.
It is sad and ugly what he has said and done.
He will be in my prayers.
