Celebrity Justice
Gibson Eats His Words

In yet another ironic twist in the Mel Gibson DUI saga, an interview with the actor in 2004 shows Gibson slamming reports of anti-semitism and opening up about his past issues with alcohol abuse.

In the sit-down with Diane Sawyer for "Primetime" Gibson laughs off rumors of anti-semitism saying, "for me it goes against the tenets of my faith to be racist in any point."

The Aussie was also grilled about his issues with alcoholism, which Gibson swore were in the past -- "Sometimes I used to drive inebriated, this is at the height of careless stupidity and when you think of that kind of insanity, I look back at that now and go what was I thinking."

76. When alcohol impairs our
minds no one acts
rationally. Some people are happy when intoxicated, others are
belligerent towards others, and others simply go into a shell
within themselves, which is whysociety labels the very inebriated
"people who have fallen into adrunken stupor". I'm
sure Mel's personal problems of why he went backto drinking is
really no business of anyone and he alone will have tosort them
out with himself. Making anti-semetic remarks can be an
offshoot of how he sees various people's in this world but be that as
it may, even Jews are not above it all, because they too see fit to
lambast other races with racists remarks. Well, it's like the words
spoken by Jesus, who said to those that were ready to stone Mary
Magdalin "Who here is without sin should cast the first stone". No
one did!!!
MelGibson has his human faults as we all do, and what is said
whensomeone is intoxicated should not be a lifetime sentence of
hateagainst him. What's passed has passed and the
Hollywood Jewish communityshould let it go. Mel's talent as a
Director and Actor is his life so let him lead it as
such. ----------------------------------------------

77. Please inform the "tard" who wrote post #5 that anti-semitism has nothing to do with a desire or stated intent to harm Jews.......it's verilant hatred and racism directed towards the Jewish race/religion. Mel Gibson so clearly qualifies as an anti-semite by his own recent statements that there can be no debate.

If the writer of post #5 chooses to absolve Mr. Gibson of his views, so be it. But, do not confuse the definition nor the reality of anti-semitism.

78. Alcohol is a terrible disease. I have admired Mel for so long. He has struggled for many years as alcoholics do. As far as the anti-semitic remarks, well, as a fundamentalist Christian I believe in the Jewish state and the Jew's triumph against evil. I also believe Mel should be forgiven. People say things. Doesnt mean he is anti-semitic. I say things I shouldnt about other people doesnt mean I would condemn them, nor do business with them. Mel has given alot back to the community and made some great films that brought people back to the theaters. If the Jewish cop can forgive him and he did, well, we can too.

81. His words were buried deep in Gibson's mind, the booze allowed them to flow out like a lava lake of hate. So, he's sober and now he's not an anti-semite? We aren't stupid Mel. Just admit to it, then get some counseling, if you really believe your own apology. And take your dad, too.

82. Dee did a great job expressing my thoughts as well. It has definately gotten a bit backwards in society today. Kids in school today have a whole semester on 'being Muslim', but don't let them bring a Bible or say a prayer! And the whole thing about Gibson's movie, 'Passion', being anti-semite because it blames the Hebrew nation for the crucifiction....uuhhh??? Didn't Jesus live in Israel? Wasn't He preaching to the Jews? Wasn't it the Jews who cried "Crucify Him!", when given the choice between the release of Jesus or a murderer? I'm I missing something here? Isn't saying the Jews were not responsible there, the same as saying the Germans weren't responsible for their actions? We have become a society that wants 'it' without working for 'it', or taking any personal responsibity for our actions as we try to get 'it' and blaming others if we don't achieve 'it'! Very sad.

83. The Mel Gibson situation is another example of how warped our celebreties are in this country - and the public contributes to this.
First of all, Who Cares? what he thinks. Why do we make such a big deal out of celebrity opinions? He has no intelligent basis for his opinions or observations. Another example - Tom Cruise situation.
This b.s. will never change until we send these people a clear message that they are "entertainers" and thats IT! Keep your opinions to yourself and maybe we will continue to see your movies.
In other words - Get over yourselves and do yourself and the rest of us a big favor.

84. I agree with the previous comment snubbing these ridiculous over-zealous accusations against Gibson. At what point in our history did we give a no-criticism pass to the Jewish people? How come every other Religion and race can be criticized except for the Jews? Are we still handing them a sympathy clause for the atrocities of the WWII? Or. Have they protected themselves from criticism because of their undeniable majority holdings in the U.S. news media and entertainment industries? I mean if there is a sympathy clause for people done wrong then African-Americans can bring their 100 million lives lost in the middle-passages (boat rides) and during 400 hundred years of slavery to the table and cash in a huge no-criticism chip. Just compare the amount of movies, documentaries and news reports done about the Holocaust versus the American slave trade. Not even close. What’s more discouraging is how African Americans and Jews were hanging from trees together and fought for civil rights together but now, Blacks, are looked down on by Jews who have accumulated more power and wealth than their “former” brothers. We won’t even get into the diamond and gold raping of Africa that seeded apartheid and civil wars. I say this all to let you know that Jews (here and in Israel) have flaws and greed like everyone else and it should be okay to say it in the country that allowed them to flourish. Goes to show you that now matter how much money and power you gain, you can still be insecure as a child. Leave Mel alone and worry about how you treat people. The way you treat people when your not intoxicated.

85. For a religous guy Mel seems to have lots of hate. He hates gays, he hates Jews and he calls female police officers "sugar tits". I wish he hated drinking as much as hates everything else. If he did he wouldn't be endangering lives up and down PCH. Mel Gibson is a very sick man, nothing more or less.

86. Mel Gibson is a racist, anti-semite just like his father. Truth be told he is a coke headed, alcohol abusing ex-gay pornstar. Do your homework, know about scumbags in the limelight. I hope Hollywood gives it to him like they did in those early gay movies. Enjoy the ride Mel!

87. Mel, was so drunk he was pathetic. Said not so nice things about the Jewish Community and he will live to regret it, especially in his career dealings. He also acted badly toward the police. This will go on until something new comes along to take the medias attention. Sure hes sorry, he made an ass out of himself...But, I really dont feel those are his honest to God true feelings. It was the booze, now let him get the help he needs. Imagine how embarresed his family is, and that he have to live with forever and ever. In time he will mend those fences he has to inorder to continue in his industry. He made a big mistake, now let him stew in his own misery and he will get better in time. Think about it, I think thats the way it will go..
