What really makes somebody deserving or undeserving? What circumstances were you born into? Maybe the upbringing YOU'VE had would look like champagne and caviar to a person who subsists on the welfare system and has no hope of ever breaking into a middle class income bracket because their economic status has him/her pigeonholed due to lack of opportunities/lack of formal education, etc. To a lot of Americans, a middle-class lifestyle would be a enviable, the way that Paris' lifestyle is enviable to Middle America. It's all relative. Somebody always has more than somebody else. It isn't a matter of entitlement.
Paris isn't the only well-born Amercan is existence, just the most publicized one.
Lots of people born into her lifestyle are a lot less 'deserving' than she is, if one is to believe in such a concept. Some who are born into vast fortunes booze or gamble them away. Paris works hard to augment hers. How many times have I heard people say such things as 'oh, if I won the $50 million lottery I'd tell my boss to fuck off and never work another day in my life'? People are, as a majority, inclined to be lazy. Paris can exercise the power to be lazy but chooses not to. Most people, in my experience, wouldn't push themselves the way that she does, if they had the option of not working. Most people would sit on the money or piss it away. Paris has a strong work ethic, is more talented than given credit for, and is more shrewd at marketing herself than people realize. She deserves props....she's proven herself as far as I'm concerned....too bad she's such a convenient scapegoat for jealousy-consumed twits such as the sort who thrive on bashing Paris on forums such as this one. The only other female personality I can think of who was more vilified in her day is Marilyn Monroe. Adored by a large fan base but her supporters were outnumbered by her detractors...people forget that back then she was sneered at by other actresses, treated poorly by directors, and even the common moviegoer of the 50s looked upon her as trashy, insipid, an overpaid, glorified whore. She didn't command a whole lot of respect, even at her peak. Time has been exquisitely kind to Ms. Monroe.... But the point is at one time she was scorned in much the same fashion as Paris is now. It seems to be a recurring theme in pop culture, the vilification of iconic blondes The blondes always get the last laugh though.

64. Actually, Paris' voice is above average. Something like good pitch cannot be faked. Synthesizers can only do so much....if they were really the magic wand that people believe them to be, then every recording artist would sound like Mariah Carey. If an artist is relying heavily on synthesizers you can HEAR it....it sounds overprocessed and not-quite-human. Anybody with a background in music or even a peripheral understanding of the mechanics of voice can hear how much of Paris' raw instrument is in her debut single.
She has a genuine talent and I've been gloating on her behalf from the very second her single dropped.

As an aside, I'd like to point out that too much value is placed on a singer's range.
Most people have a range of a half octave. Mariah Carey's is supposedly five. What you do with what you have is really more a testament to talent. Case in point, Madonna. She has between an octave to an octave and a half of range -- more than the average person but still modest as compared to Mariah, Christina, Beyonce, Whitney, etc.

All of the range on a piano won't do a damn for a singer if the tonal quality of her voice is unpleasant or nasal. Case in point, Celine Dion. Between four and five octaves -- her voice is impressive, powerful, etc. But you couldn't pay me enough to listen to a CD of hers because the tone of her voice is so irritating to me...like nails on a chalkboard, God bless her.

Bottom line is, range isn't everything. Tone is just as important if not more so.

67. I have to agree with Paris when she says that fame changed Nicole Richie. She changed everything...from her personal appearence to her friends. I think she did it because of jealousy and not because she wanted to change her lifestyle. I mean, having Lindsay Lohan as one of your best friends doesn't really show a change for the better, does it? I think Nicole fell in love with the spotlight and hated Paris for being so famous. So she split from Paris, found a new crew and now does everything that Paris does. For example, do a book and CD like Paris. Get engaged when Paris does. I think Nicole Richie should get a LIFE. AND A CHEESEBURGER ASAP.
