Bruce Willis Says He's the Victim of a Shakedown

Bruce WillisTMZ has obtained a lawsuit filed by actor Bruce Willis against one of his childhood friends, claiming the friend is attempting a "shakedown."

The suit, filed Tuesday in Los Angeles County Superior Court, claims that Bruce DiMattia and Willis were childhood friends. Court documents allege that in 2002, Willis offered DiMattia a job. From then, until mid-2006, he was employed by Willis. One of DiMattia's responsibilities, the documents state, was to "organize private family photographs, videotapes, DVDs and films depicting Willis and his family members." Willis also says by nature of DiMattia's employment, he "acquired knowledge of certain highly personal, private and confidential information" about Willis and his family. The suit says that in addition to "other compensation" paid to DiMattia, DiMattia lived rent free in a home owned by Willis.

The suit says that after the termination of DiMattia's employment, he refused to move out of the home owned by Willis and has "wrongfully retained possession" of certain private photos and videos. The suit also claims that DiMattia informed Willis that he had "surreptitiously prepared a book manuscript" which features private information about the star which contains what Willis says are "several falsehoods and lies that could embarrass [him]" and that this manuscript has allegedly already been shown to at least three book publishing companies. Willis says that DiMattia has "threatened to unlawfully exploit private family photographs and memorabilia belonging to Mr. Willis, and to sell a manuscript containing lies about Mr. Willis" unless Willis "agrees to pay him over $100,000 and buy him a car." The suit claims these allegations constitute extortion and violate Willis' right of privacy.

Willis is seeking an excess of $1 million in damages and asks for return of Willis' private mementos, or if they cannot be delivered, a sum no less that $50,000.

31. It must hurt that a friend betrayed him, however, how many has he betrayed?
I know from a personal experience Bruce is a flirt, so I am sure the guy has tons of material on him. I doubt any of it that secret, I met Bruce and Demi at a Prince consert and was offended that he openly flirted (with others) with Demi present. Sure, he is a nice guy, but sometimes guys like that deserve what they get.

32. When you live by the sword, You die by the sword. He should of did this project by himself and then he would be the only one looking at this stuff he calls so sacred. This would of been a nice thing to sit down and put this together with his two daughters . I'ts called bonding, Family stuff should stay with the FAMILY.

33. My Father advised me; Don't trust anyone further then you can throw them and don't loan any money that you can't walk away from. Friends and relatives are the worst people to deal with.

35. I feel that usually you should be able to trust a childhood friend....not a teenage party acquaintance....(it was Bruce Willis' childhood friend)....which usually means a lot.....so for everybody saying "DUH..why would you give personal info to another person" it's not just another person...usually a childhood friend is like family, he's probably in those photos also. Maybe that's why Bruce Willis trusted him sooo much, in the first place. That friend was totally in the wrong, and he will regret that, never put money 1st in your life!!!

36. You go Bruce....
The movie industry has gotten so popular that no matter what any of them do, someone is out there trying to make them look bad..
Private life should be private for these people..... so we watch them on screen.
Let them have their own secrets and keep them to themselves..
Yeah, shark tank in Hollywood... (#12 comment)
I have met a couple of stars, and they deserve their privacy......
I wouldn't want my dirty laundry out in the open if I had any.
I agree with Sharon (#9) I am glad Bruce is sueing....

37. If someone else knows it's not really a secret. What you do in the dark always comes out in the light. But, I don't agree with extorting someone that is just plain low. Good Luck Bruce

38. good grief, someone has cloned Kato Kalin (however that last name is spelled). I hope Bruce Willis comes through this okay; I've always thought he sounded like a pretty good guy.

40. if what i read is true, then my thoughts are that Bruce had a good relationship with this guy. he remembered the good times and wanted to help a buddy out he remembered as someone trustworthy and loyal. i feel for Bruce cause i too have helped friends out from school and work. you want to do something nice for them because of the memories. i believe most people try to help people they have come to like and trust. and like Bruce, I too have been screwed over by those I least likey thought would. but i also have had those really appreciate what i have done which gives me a warm fuzzy. i believe most people want to help others they thought they knew well because it makes them feel good as well as the receiver of their attention. as one poster suggested, hollywood is full of sharks, but also everywhere there are those who are just out for themselves. as i wrote above, i too have been jaded by 'friends', but does that mean i should act like everyone will screw me over given the chance? I will continue to help those i feel deserve it and hope they don't do me over like Bruce's 'friend' did him or like some of my 'friends' did me. I read some where that a fool trusts everyone and a fool trusts no one. There is a happy ground somewhere inbetween. Bruce if you read this, and the others who do also, don't give up on people. Go after the bad guys as hard as u can and still try to help the good guys

41. What about the questionable ethics of any publishing house that would print a book containing the stolen personal property of another individual? If they print it, I hope that Bruce will sue them. The appetite of the general public to read bad and tawdry things about public personaliities is disgusting. Is there supposed to be some sort of sport in tearing down successful people? What exactly do you get out of participating in something like that? Anyone who buys a book like this shares a piece of the blame, because you support both the publisher who destroys a person and also the scum who stole the stuff in the first place. As to the "friend" of Bruce who did this...pathetic. What goes around, comes around.

42. ah, the paradox of it all! I really think Willis is pretty much a straight up, stand up guy, so I believe this "childhood friend" is a low life creep, no doubt. ON THE OTHER HAND, if I did what Bruce did in "Pulp Fiction," how could anything embarrass me? The coolest thing about Willis (for my money) is the fact that he wears his watch "face down," (on the bottom of his wrist), and nobody seems to realize that this is an apparent tribute to post-WW2 Pilots, Co-Pilots, and Navigators, who wore their watches that way so that the crystal didn't get broken from bumping against metal fixtures (in the plane) at sub-zero temperatures--those cabins weren't pressurized!

43. I've known Bruce & family for 25 years...I met Mr. DiMattia through Bruce many years ago when we would hang out at the West Hollywod Improv...where Mr. DiMattia pushed my face into Bruce's b'day cake...I think after Mr. DiMattia's wife left him he probably went through some difficult times emotionally and financially...this is a desperate plea for help...unfortunately he chose the wrong path to get that help...Bruce has gone through changes as his life has accelerated and his sphere of influence expanded but I find it difficult to believe that he would pro-actively hurt anyone he was once close with...he's always been a man of his word and helped his friends, myself included...i haven't seen him in a very long time but I can't think he's changed that much...he's been through a tough divorce and lost a brother to cancer...so don't put too much stock in these charges...it sounds like someone's bitter about being less successfull-Mikey
