Hasselbeck Gets Hot -- and a Hug From Babwa

Token "View" conservative Elisabeth Hasselbeck doesn't hide her emotions when it comes to the controversy surrounding the morning-after pill.

A heated discussion about the subject erupted on Wednesday's show when Barbara Walters brought up that the controversial morning-after pill was being considered for approval for over-the-counter distribution by the FDA. Hasselbeck became visibly upset while arguing the topic and was scolded by Walters for being overly emotional. The agitated Elisabeth proceeded to tear up her cards as the show went to a commercial break.

When the show returned from the break, Elisabeth was being soothed by a motherly Walters as they sat in each other's laps. Barbara told Elisabeth that she respected her opinions and Elisabeth responded that she respected Barbara' s opinion as well--and that she loved being on the show. They then hugged and kissed.

While the display was slightly disturbing--to say the least--we're just happy this sort of mothering wasn't around when Star was on the show.

1247. The point is access to the morning after pill is necessary because some couples do not have protected intercourse and so then seek this magic bullet to undo their irreresponsible behavior. As was stated earlier, as a high dose of estrogen it does discourage ovulation from occuring if it hasnot occurred and an earlier than schedule period that would discourage implantation of a fertilized ovum-IF there is one.

Unfortunately, after working one day at a pharmacy (NEar a college campus) that has a registered pharmacist who can dispence Plan B without a prescription it seems that there are students that think that this IS birth control because some request this pill 2 weeks after their last dose. This is a high dose estrogen pill that has major physiological effects--it is NOT candy. Ok, fine take it once but for pete's sake, learn to use a GD condom. (Especially when sooo many people in the same area got rxs for herpes and other STD's)

Oh and yes, Elisabeth needs to read this too-but she may have a problem with the big words.

I always thought that the View needed a capable professional on staff to be the voice of reason.

1248. Hellooo all you good Christians!

Did you read the following? "For the record: The morning-after pill will prevent or delay the release of an egg from the ovary if given prior to ovulation, or it will help prevent the egg from traveling down the fallopian tubes and implanting in the uterus if you have already ovulated. The morning-after pill reduces the chance of getting pregnant; it does NOT cause an abortion."

That's a scientific and a medical fact. Which part of it don't you understand?

1249. I have been a fan of "The View" for some time now but I must say that Elizabeth works my last nerve most days during hot topics. I would really like to see her replaced by someone else. As a woman in the 25-35 age range that Elizabeth is supposed to represent I must say she isn't even close to representing what I find is the norm or average opinion. Women my age are much more moderate and modern in our thinking and view of the world. She is about as close minded as James Dobson., which would be fine except she is supposed represent a certain demographic of "View" viewers and she doesn't, at all! Maybe she should go over to Fox News Channel and do something on their morning show? I am sure she would be a welcome addition by that network and it's viewers.

1250. Aside to Kanee--There must be more than one morning-after pill... because my information was that the pill caused the uterus to slough off its lining--including any implanted egg that may be present... THAT's an abortion--not a prevention... And just for the record--the rest of your "facts" aren't very factual... Sperm do not wait around for a woman to ovulate--if they did everybody--every woman--would get pregnant--every time! Are you sure you passed kindergarten?

1251. She never said that it CAUSED an abortion...she felt that it was the same thing, because you are interrupting a natural process within your body.

I don't always agree with her extreme views, but I respect someone that has conviction and truly believes in something and doesn't waver to the liberal company that she keeps.

There are a lot of things in our society that are a 'reality', however, it doesn't mean that we have to accept them as a norm.

It's usually the most debauched people that are telling everyone else to relax and what's the big deal?

Elisabeth is a mother raising her child in this society and she has EVERY right to speak up about a trend that she sees as going awry...the deterioration of youth and the lack of morals and responsiblity. There is NO accountability and a serious lack of responsibility in our society. Everyone wants the easy way out.

Again, I don't agree with all that she said, however, I do feel that she had some very valid points and unfortunately, she was not given the chance to voice them because Barbara chose to scold her on the air like a child...would she have done that to Joy? OR to Rosie? I think not.

1252. Elizabeth is very easy on the eyes. This is not enough reason to keep her on the show. Her opinions should be expressed, that's the reason the show is called "The View". However, she needs to calm down. I think that she will have to eat her words on both subjects. Her love for the republicans is so obvious even when they are taking away our freedoms. Speak while you can Elizabeth, your friends in the White House will take your freedom of speech away before long. Barbara's lucky though that they don't have Kelly Ripa to contend with. What a self-loving individual. Poor Barbara, and poor Regis.
