Mel Gibson Gets a Phil Pill

Dr. Phil expressed some dismay Wednesday night about the harsh criticism against Mel Gibson for his anti-Semitic rant during his arrest.

The good doctor, who appeared on "The Tonight Show," told Jay Leno: "I don't know what [Gibson] really thinks or feels."

Dr. Phil added: "I certainly wouldn't judge a guy based on one comment in a drunken stupor on the side of the road at 2 o'clock in the morning."

Could it be that Phil is angling to get the Gibson mea culpa interview? Stay tuned.

31. In our own houses, we all have hates and predjudices that we might not want others to know. Anyone who says otherwise is probably a liar. So a man gets drunk and yells a few blasts that offend the masses. Next people are yelling about Holocausts and the like. Enough !!! Sh*t happens. Sometimes it is good and sometimes it is bad. Did Mel cause it? NO. Does he have a right to an opinion on whatever subject whenever he wants? YES. We all do. There is no right and wrong. There are just bad decisions, and unfortunately his was made under the influence. Does it matter if he really thinks what he said? NO. Everyone needs to just get over it, forget the crap about how offended they are, and just let it be. The cop who leaked it out ought to be beat over the head, he knew exactly what he was doing and professional judgement could have left that comment out and saved the world a whole lot of grief. Damn the cop for putting it n the report, NOT Mel for having an opinion while drop dead drunk. Get a life folks... it is about right to believe and say what u want, NOT using one drunken rage to judge a man who probably could give two sh*ts what anyone thinks anyway.

32. I really believe from all I've read that Mel Gibson believes as his father does that Jews are the cause of everything bad going on "Circa: Adolf Hitler" How sad how very sad that someone so in the public eye should be this way. I used to like Mel, but after reading and doing the research on him, he is his father's son and will not publicy deny what his father has said. Because he respects him? BS he believes. I am a catholic and I find this and his behavior apauling.

33. Mel Gibson is an addict who's drug of choice is alcohol. His problems extend much further than some anti-semetic remarks. I am surprised that his lizard brain creates this nonsense. I am from the South and when I was growing up the Jews (me) and the Catholics were friends because the Methodists and Baptists hated both of us.
Gibson's acting career is mostly over and he can direct or produce even if people hate him. I hope he gets help, maybe a 12 step program.

34. One "ah sh**" ruins ten "atta-boys" It isn't fair, but that's life. Mel Gibson is a very kind person, but he said something bad. Now no one will remember the good he has done, only the one thing he did bad and regrets. What happened to forgivness??

35.

WHO AMONG US IS WITHOUT SOME BIT OF PREDIJUDICE ABOUT SOMETHING!
What we should really get upset about is that Mel G. was intoxicated and
could have hurt someone. That is the biggest issue here.
Get REAL! Please!

36. Mel Gibson's arrogant comments should not be glossed over by Dr. Phil or any other media servant. Please, let's all just remember what he said and ask yourself the question; " Under what circumstanes would those comments have ever come out of my mouth?

39. As with most things, if one tries to view fairly and dispassionately, one usually ends up in a mid-range position. ...

As the adult daughter of a drunk, and long-time observer of humanity, i feel qualified to make some general observations, noting that i can not speak with full knowledge about this situation, having not been there.

First, as many have noted, hateful comments do not appear fullblown out of nowhere. Instead, paticularly with a person who is handicapped by drink/drugs, their most hidden views tend to surface, especially when thwarted, especially when that person was raised in an enviroment of hatred.

Also, there are many reasons why (even tho' he made racist comment when drunk) a person raised to be bigoted MIGHT act UNlike that most of the time.
It's possible that said person could be hiding his real views, as they are unpopular, and would damage his image, but on the other hand.....
This person could actually know that those beliefs have no basic in fact, and be trying to overcome his upbringing, .....
And in this light, yes, his past and future behaviour and actions do count...

Lastly, since none of us are, by any stretch of the imagination, perfect, the goal should be to make the situation better somehow, rather than to ladle on blame and fault, nor conversely, to make excuses.
This said, I might hope that Mr. Gibson and others, famous, and unknown, rich and 'like-me' might review some of constructive thoughts offered here and elsewhere, to improve what they can make a difference in. .........

This relating to the entertainment field, brings to mind words from the series 'In the Heat of the Night' ...........

"You start where you are, and you do what you can"

Peace begins in the hearts of each of us.

Thank you,
Beverly Rogers

40. Big shock (especially to AOL): there is absolutely NOTHING in the U.S. Constitution tha requires me to "like", or even RESPECT, anyone. Not even jews, not even blacks.
Very few groups in American are LESS deserving of respect than jews and blacks (and mixtures thereof).
So there, I got that off my chest, and now, Hail to Mel Gibson!!

41. Hmm... Let me guess; Barbara Walters, her loud mouth co-host, & this Harvey Levin guy are Jewish. Right? This is why they're so worked up. Too bad the same kind of energy isn't put in to everyday life when minorities are degraded. I know never I'll never watch any program that has to do with Barbara, her loud mouth co-host and Harvey Levin.

42. I would be in big DOO DOO if everything that I said while I was intoxicated was taken serious. I am always apologizing for things I said. I am not proud but I do tend to insert foot because of drinking. I am also not a big drinker. I just can't hold my liquer so I don't drink often. They do say people usually say what they think when there drinking. Myself I say stupid things. I never intend to hurt anyone and thank God I never have. I think Mel may be sorry but I wouldn't be to concerned over his career. He has more money then you or I will ever see in our lifetime. I don't always agree with Dr. Phil but I wouldn't judge the man on one comment made a 2 in the morning in a drunken stuper. Just my personal opinion.

43. Hey, YOU --

Like Mel Gibson, I, too, believe that the Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world. However, I adore war and, therefore, I love the Jews. Thus, I am not anti-Semitic. Therefore, if you have a problem with my statement (unless you have a problem with Jew-lovers), you will have to explain why, factually, I am wrong in my belief about the Jews and war.

(OK, let's assume the booze was talking here -- Mel didn't mean "all." How about "most" or "a lot" or "some"? Or, you could always just keep your mind at a low frequency and find some other label for him (and me) -- CRAZY! But, I wonder -- what conspiracy, if any, taught you to be such a whiz with labels?)

OK, I'm ready. Attack the man, not the logic.

(P.S., for the REALLY STUPID, I am simply making a point -- Anti-Semitism is not a disease; it is not something to be "identified" and "contained" or "cured." It derives from a conclusion, possibly a false one, but one that must be fought on the level of conclusions. Since I don't hear anybody else saying this, I guess I'll have to).

Bye!

Oh, by the way, if I’ve managed to annoy you, then what makes you think that I was talking to YOU?

I was talking to Mel.

44. Come on people, let Mel alone . You just love it when someone like him slips up and does something stupid. He may be rich and successful, but he is just a human like you and me. We all screw up now and again, it's just not put out there for the whole world to see. So come on , get off your high horse and quit judging the man. He is not perfect, but then who is.

45. Drunken Stupor?
Hardly..
He had a .12. That is equal to about 2 glasses of wine or about 3 beers!
