"Rock Star: Supernova's" Breakout Star

Tommy Lee and Dave Navarro may be established musical bad boys but to catch some true rock star antics on CBS' "Rock Star: Supernova" check out gorgeous contestant Zayra Alvarez.

With her lively and outrageous performances of The Kinks' "You Really Got Me" and "Bring Me To Life" by Evanescence, the Puerto Rican songstress has stolen the show and become the one to watch this season.

Unfortunately, despite haunting renditions of REM's "Everybody Hurts" and K's Choice "Not an Addict," Zayra has routinely landed in the bottom three.

But since you never know what she is going to do, say (her sassy retorts to the judges' critiques are worth the price of admission alone) or wear next, fans are tuning in just to catch the latest episode of the Zayra show.

A fact that even the judges, Navarro and Lee, pointed out on this week's episode.



A mix of Blondie's Debbie Harry with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Karen O, Zayra's fashion forward ensembles (like the blue skin tight catsuit or her cape, gloves, and boots superhero trifecta) are a welcome change to the standard rock star uniform of black jeans, tank tops and wrist cuffs.

Zayra has the potential to become a musical fashion icon - think Gwen Stefani or J.Lo but edgier.

And if Zayra winds up on top at the end of the competition, the leggy Latina may find that the hardest part of the gig isn't winning but fending off Tommy Lee while on tour.

1. Have you been watching the show with the volume on???? The chick CANNOT sing!!! She shouldn't have made it to LA, nevermind this far!!! They're just keeping her around because she isn't boring (even though she CANNOT SING AT ALL) and she dresses like a whore!

If they pick her, there's no way I'll ever go to a show or buy a Supernova CD, but I would for Dilana, Toby, Lucas, or Storm.

2. She is the worst singer and people don't watch her because she is good they tune in to see what the freak is going to do next. If she wins this I will never watch rockstar again.

4. She's like Britney Spears. You don't want to hear her sing, but you wouldn't mind seeing her take her clothes off. No talent.

5. The only reason Zayra is still on the show is to draw attention and get t.v. ratings. I'm sure the producers have told SuperNova to keep her on. This season of RockStar sucks and is so bad (nothing compared to all the talent RockStar/INXS brought) they need somebody or something like her to make people watch. She is so freaking bad that its almost comical. I'm so sure they're gonna pick some latino chick to lead their band that can't even pronunciate correctly. GIMME A BREAK!

6. I think she's awesome. Not right for Supernova but she will definitely have a successful career as a result of this show. I think that Rock Star this season is full of talent and is a much superior show to all the reality crap that's out there. I agree, Storm Large rocks!

7. OMG, she's painful. I admire her guts, resilience, unencumbered theatrics, and yen for changing arrangements, but compared to a true personality Dilana she's merely a head-simulating, spandex wearing, turn-trick pony.

8. This "news item" on TMZ is pathetic! Obviously doing someone or some company a favor. Don't know if you are beholden to some flack or to CBS itself, but this "news item" is a blatant, fake attempt to make a bad show (that I watch religiously) seem relevant. The singer in question, btw, is a caterwauling freakazoid who looks like Celine Dion, sings like a spastic mom, and gyrates around the stage like some kind of Mormon at a disco. Give it UP, TMZ.

9. She has very little talent. Most of the time listening to her sing on the show is like nails going down a chalkboard!!! One time she sounded decent and it was a slow song, not what you would think of what Supernova will be. One or the other I'm sure that unfortunately we'll hear from her again after the show is over. D-List celebrity her she comes!!

11. If you noticed they had to take a commerical break before commenting on her performance because they were laughing and could not compose themselves. She can't sing, can't dance and is annoying to watch. It is truly pathetic that she is being kept around for entertainment value when we all know she has no chance to front the band. I'm shocked she wasn't in the bottom three again this week.

14. OK, I don't watch "Rock Star" and never would, so I can say as a pretty impartial observer that while she's got guts, her pipes are awful.
She's going for some kind of emo Shakira thing, but doesn't have the voice, talent, and sex appeal Shakira does.
Some nerd that works at TMZ's got a crush. How cute.
