Bosworth Breaks Bread

Kate Bosworth"Superman Returns" star Kate Bosworth proved that food is not her kryptonite and enjoyed a girls' night out on the town this weekend.

Bosworth dined at trendy Hollywood restaurant Magnolia on Saturday with four girlfriends -- including pop singer Jewel and their stylist Jessica Paster.

For appetizers, the not-so-big-boned beauty had cigarettes and bottled water, followed by a heaping bowl of bread. Bosworth finished off the course with a wedge of iceberg lettuce.

Jewel, who was quoted in Blender magazine saying "alcohol really does solve all your problems," steered clear of any complications and ordered herself a cocktail.

46. There is no one in Hollywood of less importance or interest than Kate Bosworth. Why are you even reporting on her?

47. Oh sure, it's damned if she does, and damned if she doesn't. Had the woman ordered and eaten a full meal, you would say she was just going to throw it up after anyway. She can't win! By the way- the quintessential L.A. salad is a wedge of iceberg lettuce with Russian dressing.

48. HAHAHA! Water, bread and iceberg lettuce! Wow! A wholesome meal! Might as well just stuck to her water. It is known that iceburg lettuce has no nutriments except of course...water, the no-calories liquid. So she had a little bread, huh? I'm sure it was much needed. The brain passes out without sugar.

50. Errrmm...her "menu selections" suggest that this young woman is definitely anorexic or nearly there. She does NOT look good, either. Apparently she weighs about 90 pounds...and she's 5'7"! That's incredibly unhealthy. I know most of you men prefer your blondes sickeningly skinny, but who the hell wants to grab a bone in bed? Wouldn't you prefer a soft curve instead? As someone else said, she looked good in "Blue Crush" and that was it. As for Jewel's comment about alcohol, all I can say: What a fantastic role model you are, honey. NOT.

52. As someone who works with Hollywood people, the biggest issue is the pressure from the media to stay thin. It's perfectly OK to be a size 0 or 2, if you're healthy and that size is appropriate for you. Good example: Jada Pinkett-Smith. Bad example: Nicole Ritchie.

However, if a prominent actor/actress gains a couple of pounds, the media is all over it. People need to remember that celebrities are people with feelings just like everyone else. Being in the spotlight doesn't relieve them of the pressures that everyday people face. Eating disorders is a terrible epidemic, and I truly sympathize with those who suffer from such disorders. Blaming Hollywood is not the right answer. Celebrities are under no obligation to be role models.

Today's youth, especially young girls, need to be taught how to be more self-accepting of themselves, and that it's okay that they don't look exactly like the Hollywood flavor of the day. That a size 7 or 9, or whatever suits your body type is perfectly fine. The competition to diet down to the smallest possible size (a 0 or 2 being the ultimate goal), regardless of your height or body type, is ludicrous. This is something I see often when working with the people I do.

53. Really, who cares about what she had for dinner... More interesting reading would be what Ruben Studdard, the Velvet Teddy bear, had for dinner. That would be 2, maybe 3 paragraphs.... .

54. Kate Bosworth is too skinny; she necessarily smells like cigarette smoke, especially her hair; she's nutritionally challenged; she's not pretty at all, at least not in that over-the-shoulder, look-at-the-camera pic that accompanied the stupid article to which I'm responding showed her to be. Why all the fuss? She strikes me as entirely unremarkable.

55. A wedge of iceberg is big in highend restaurants in LA. It is refreshing and not served like you are picturing it in Denny's.

56. Kate has an eating disorder and she in not aware of it, no one lets themselves get that thin and is not aware of what they are doing. She looks like a live skeleton she needs to EAT!!!!!!

57. I have suffered from anorexia in the past, this seems like a typical meal that someone with the disorder would have eaten when they dined out. The water obviously has no calories and the iceberg lettuce is safe for her because that too, is very low in calories. The bread on the other hand, is probably just a way to distract people from her poor dieting habits and she will either burn it off later on or it doesn’t really matter because she ate nothing earlier in the day. Her dinner was probably around 120 to 200 calories. No, people should not being watching what she eats and writing about it for the public to see, even if she does not have a disorder is obvious she is not taking in her 2,000 needed calories a day.

60. Why is it that people who are really not that talented at all, get so much publicity for their personal issues? Who gives a hooey if she eats - she will be a nobody again soon enough!
