Looks like the folks at "The View" knew what they were doing: The recently-fired Star Jones is the most unfavorably-viewed TV personality in America, based on a Gallup poll released yesterday.

Of course, newly hired "View"-er Rosie O'Donnell didn't fare much better, nearly matching Star's negative rating. But the news isn't all bad for ABC -- Diane Sawyer is the most beloved personality of all, according to the poll's respondents.

In fact, according to Gallup, 88 percent of the 1001 people polled gave Sawyer a "favorable" rating, and 87 percent saw her former co-host and now-anchor of ABC's "World News" Charles Gibson as "favorable" as well. The beleaguered Star, on the other hand, racked up a 70 percent "unfavorable" rating, with Rosie only just ahead of Star with a 65 percent negative tally.

Still, despite the polling numbers, "Good Morning America" doesn't beat "Today" in the ratings race. "Having a high favorability does not necessarily predict high ratings," says Gallup editor-in-chief Frank Newport. It should also be noted that such TV heavyweights as Oprah and Kelly Ripa weren't amongst the possible choices for respondents.

Will Suri Emerge in the Pages of Vanity Fair?

A report in today's Page Six says that Graydon Carter has struck again and that Vanity Fair magazine has nabbed the coveted first snaps of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' baby girl Suri, who's now almost three-and-a-half months old. The pictures, according to the Page Six source, were shot by legendary photographer Annie Leibovitz and will appear sometime in the fall, though there's no word on when the photo shoot might have taken place. Neither Cruise's nor the magazine's reps had any comment.

The news comes on the heels of a Cruise spokesman's insistence that the couple isn't "reluctant" to show off their baby, and will be "making a decision to release the photographs shortly." And just last week, Penelope Cruz became the latest celebrity witness to the child's existence, though she quickly clammed up about it when questioned about it later.

McCartney and Mills Lawyer Up – With Charles and Di's Attorneys

The suddenly very acidic divorce struggle between Sir Paul McCartney and his wife of four years, Heather Mills McCartney, took an interesting twist on Tuesday, when, according to reports, Mills McCartney hired Anthony Julius, the lawyer who represented Diana, Princess of Wales, in her own split with Prince Charles ten years ago. What's more, Charles' legal counsel in that matter – Fiona Shackelton – will be taking on Sir Paul's case. Julius won an approximately $3 million settlement for the Princess in that case.

The lawyer arms race is only the latest development in the McCartney-Mills divorce saga: Yesterday, Heather went to her husband's home, only to find herself locked out, a circumstance which her spokesman said she found "hilarious."

Larry David's Rage Over Un-"Curb"-ed Shopping Cart

Onscreen king of kvetch Larry David just couldn't contain himself at a Martha's Vineyard parking lot last weekend when an errant shopping cart scratched his beloved BMW 530. According to Page Six, the "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and "Seinfeld" creator and his wife were outside a Vineyard Haven supermarket when a runaway cart made what one eyewitness said was "a little dent" in David's $75,000 car.

David proceeded to call the cops and started, says the witness, "in a golf shirt and shorts, flapping away with his arms. It was just like an episode on his show." Vineyard cops confimed that David called them but no charges were pressed. David's reps had no comment. But David doth protest too much: HBO confirmed yesterday, according to the Hollywood Reporter, that the sixth season of "Curb" will begin production as early as September, with all the principals back, and an airdate coming in 2007.

Goodie Bag: Big Bill Gets Slick Birthday Bash, K-Fed Changes MySpace Handle, Bryce Dallas Howard Preggers, and Xanadu Gets Made Into Musical?

Former President Bill Clinton is having an entire buffet of festivities for his 60th birthday on August 17th, says Page Six, with the topper being a private concert by the Rolling Stones at New York's Beacon Theater more than two months later, on October 29, which will be filmed by Martin Scorsese. Clinton will also have a birthday party in Toronto during the film festival there in September, with Sarah McLachlan and Lenny Kravitz performing. . . Kevin Federline has changed his MySpace handle from the somewhat unwieldy "kevinfederlineforreal" to the more conventional "kevinfederline," says Lloyd Grove, though someone has hijacked his former user name and page. . . Opie's havin' a grandbaby! "Lady in the Water" star Bryce Dallas Howard, whose dad is director Ron Howard, announced Tuesday to People magazine that she's expecting her first child with actor-husband Seth Bagel. The couple married in June and has been together five years. . . And, finally, in news that will cheer Olivia Newton-John fans the world over, there is a report today in the New York Post that the 1980 super-classic "Xanadu" might be getting the off-Broadway treatment. Former "Ally McBeal" co-star Jane Krakowski has been cast, and investors are looking for a fall debut.

46. Just a quick note: I had never heard of an actor Seth Bagel, and thought "Opie must have been like 'What do you mean your changing your last name to BAGEL!?'" So after searching IMDB and coming up empty handed, I decided, no offense, that if there was a spelling error People might be more realiable. Just for grammer and spelling mind you, not for digging up the juicy dirt you guys find!

Anyway, 'Opie-ette' is married and knocked up by Seth Gabel. No bagels.

47. I am also a black female. However, it seems that im alone in that i sympathize with Starra. Now, i will admit a love-hate relationship with ms star. I got tired of her talking about herself sometimes, but i understand. She used to really be a miserable hateful fat girl. She lost half of her weight, found a man (albeit a gay one), and had a wonderful job. She just over celebrated publicly. I feel that Rosie is a jacka**. Rosie was the one attacking star and her family in interviews. making fun of her and her weight loss. Barbara only hired her because she knew she was getting rid of star and knows that hiring rosie will make the ratings go through the roof. it is all about money for barbara. i also cant stand joy. she is the opposite of her name. she always has something negative to say. i think that was half of the reason star got on my nerves at the end. she would say something then joy would make a slick remark and then she would just go off talking on a tangent attempting to show joy she couldnt make her shut up. i find joy rude and cynical. i often applauded star for standing up for herself and her heroes. her disrespect of johnnie cochran makes me want to puke. one case doesnt make a man. he had a long distinquished career that i am proud of. and every time he is mentioned, joy makes some sort of face. what has she done for race relations. where was her old a** during the march on washington. i want to see her fade in to oblivion as well.

49. The whole show the view sucks. Just a bunch of old bitches flappingThey should take it of tv. Rosie might make a difference but I don't think so. Old Star lost weight but her arms look like bat wings. I bet she could fly . I am sick od tomkat and please leave mel alone. I bet there is not one of you that have not thought about the things he said your selves. It is just too bad he said them. I think that cop was a real looser to put those things in print. But as porter said if he had just been a little dummer.

50. Does it really matter whether "they " hate you or not? What counts are ratings and box office.

Remember that there is no such thing as bad publicity.

Did anyone hear me say that Elisabeth's beliefs were wrong...no!! just that if you're going to name drop...at least spell the name right.
I may or may not agree with her...yeah well i do have to disagree with her on having a child from incest or rape. you know what...freedom of choice.
about rosie's view on gun control...why should there even be a discussion? you just have to get a grip on that

55. Star is a NOT a star....she's a has been who apparently has nuthin' betta to do than bitch & whinen. Plus, she has no business being a celebrity along with a few other folks I won't mention. She lacks charisma, subtlety, and whatever else it takes to make it in show business. The woman is wealthy but no amt of $$$ can buy the class she is so lacking! I can relate with racism, I've had the displeasure (&still do) of experiencing it....but I can also say I have more class in my pinkie than she does in her ENTIRE body! Her wedding is the epitome of UNCLASSY! She gives all these fools a reason to talk shyt about her then has a nerve to get pissed off about it.

56. Ok guys you have really hit Star hard. Yes she has a big ego, but I enjoyed her on the show. The wedding was over the top and a bit much and I agree, if you can afford it you should pay the bill. But we all know that the richest people never have to pay the bill. Just us working stiffs who can barely afford the gas to get to the wedding. Lets not get it twisted Ms. Walters could have handle the whole situation better. She should have let Star go before she hired disgusting Rosie. That would have showed class.I love the View and I use to plan my morning workout around the show, now I do not know if I can stand watching Rosie. As for Elizabeth, she is nieve to think her Football player husband does not look at other women or talk man talk about women in the locker room. If she really thinks like that, boy he has it made. I bet all ballplayers wish they had a nieve , idealistic wife like her.

57. If you stuck a pin in "ol Star Jones, do you think she would deflate??

Posted at 8:59PM on Aug 9th 2006 by Girlie girl

58. Say what you will about Star but she helped put some punch into the View...Star and Meredith were the stars of the show and I miss them. Ido NOT enjoy Barbara and her eterrnal "me, me, me, attitude and have more or less stopped watching the show. I enjoyed each show they had until they introduced Elisabeth....how can a person her age be so naive and so opinionated. She has SOOOO many life experiences left to happen before her ego begins to deflate. She is like a person who has lived in a protected cocoon and has yet to open her eyes.

59. i did like "the view" before meredith left then star. as for elizabeth. she is just very young and sorry to say no so smart. now star had her issues too but, in my opinion i thought she was a very intelligent black woman based on some of her comments while on the show. in otherwords, more so than little miss elizabeth. her kind words of support for the republican party were sickening. additionally, i've only voted for one president in my lifetime and you can best believe it wasn't for geo dubya. i think the best measurement for the gallup poll will be when "the view" finds another intelligent black woman to replace star jones because it is obvious rosie can't or won't tolerate another star to upstage her. after all of that is said let me make it clear that i didn't particularly care for some of the things star did. hindsight is 20/20 and i hope star can finally see that she shot her own self in the foot.
