Actor Lou Diamond Phillips Arrested

UPDATE 4:00 p.m. ET: TMZ has learned that Phillips was released from jail on his own recognizance at 12:00 p.m. PT He did not post bail. Representatives for Phillips tell TMZ that no charges will be filed and that the entire incident was a "misunderstanding."

TMZ has learned that actor Lou Diamond Phillips was arrested early Friday morning for alleged domestic violence.

Police were called to a home in Northridge, Calif. around 2:00 a.m. and found Phillips and his live-in girlfriend in an argument. The couple had apparently gotten into a heated verbal disagreement that escalated and allegedly became physical. Phillips was arrested and taken to the Devonshire police station where he is currently being held on $50,000 bail. The name of the woman was not released.

Phillips is perhaps best known for his portrayal of 50's teen idol Ritchie Valens in "La Bamba" and has most recently been seen on NBC's "Law & Order: SVU" and various other TV guest star appearances.

TMZ is awaiting comment and more information from Phillips' rep.

33. So many of these comments jump to conclusion without any facts. The woman could have been the one who started hitting him! Of course, the man is assumed to be the guilty one. He may be or he may don't be. I have enough sense to know that people (including the police) jump to conclusions, often the wrong ones!

34. Not one of us was there at the time of the incident. I'm sure his attorney will straighten things out and his girlfriend and he will either patch things up or not. Who really cares. Let's just pray they learn from this experience.

I can tell you from personal experience that most cops are bias and think they have all the answers. I've met some really nice ones who were understanding and caring but for the most part I've met some jerks. One in particular that didn't believe my true story. I guess they're just sick of whiny women who stay and men who can't control their tempers. And they don't get much training on domestic violence issues.

Women and men both know how to push each others buttons. But unfortunately the thought of getting counseling seldom happens because no one has money.
1 out of 3 have been involved in something like this. That means every other one of us. Most people just don't admit to it.

When cops came to my place, they were quick to tell me to leave, but don't offer money to do it. They instead hand out a card that gives you a number to call. Unless you're life is in danger AT THAT MOMENT, then you don't qualify. And it's not a permanent solution anyhow. The reality is, you need alot of money to make moving happen. I only got out when I got help with CPS. Then if you talk to an attorney and an advocate to get permission to use self defense, your next phone call to the police will land you in jail for hitting him. The time you sort things out comes later on, after the trauma of jail, ...in court or during negotiations.

I think men need to get in touch with their feelings and open up some. Like admit you had a bad day at work, or something pissed you off. Talk about it. Believe it or not, women get turned on by a man who expresses sensitivities. I think women need to quit pushing mens buttons and take some responsibility. And give them their space when they need it. Find a hobby, keep busy, rather than expecting him to entertain you all the time. I think both need to learn to walk away when things heat up. Come back when your chemistry is more level headed. There is something to be said about testosterone, adrenaline, endorphins, enkephalins, oxytocin, and other biological and neurological findings amongst us all. Realize it!

35. Everyone is so eager to judge and add their comments. But the facts aren't even out yet! Just because he's a guy and a girl ACCUSES him of Domestic Violence,
doesn't mean that's how it was!!! Girls do what it takes to be right-take it from a girl!!! Wait a sec and lets here both sides!!!

40. Police reports Summary:
When officers arrived the theme from La Bambo "LOS LOBOS" was blaring in the back ground. The cd player was stuck on repeat.

"Dangerouse" Lou Diamond was screaming "VIVA LABAMBA" as officals escorted him from the residence. He then stated that Suri Cruise was the real culprit. "I swear it had a tail and rat like ears".

Charges are pending.

42. What were the charges? If it was battery then he has to attend meetings, according to a friend of mine.

But see, Lou Diamond doesnt like "meetings", Lou Diamond thinks "meetins" are for losers. Lou Diamond just wants "everyone" to leave Lou Diamond alone.

45. If you were not there you do not know the facts. You do not know that he is the one that deserved to go to jail. I was proven innocent in a court of law but that did not stop the situation from costing me $9,000.00 up front that I did not have. So if you have not been there do those of us that have a favor and shut your face.
